This is Queenie, one of our Victoria crowned pigeons. They originate from the swampy forests of Northern New Guinea and surrounding islands. Now the Dodo is extinct these birds are largest of the pigeon family. These beautiful birds are quite fearless of humans and so are easily hunted for their amazing head plumes, they are rapidly decreasing in numbers and are now IUCN ranked as vulnerable. Our pair were both captive bred and are part of a European breeding programme EEP aimed at saving them from extinction.
Katinka settling down to enjoy the morning sun
Thank you Simon for sharing this lovely video of our Eastern quoll. Stella and her daughter Annie lunching together.
💕💕💕Doreen, one of our wallabies, gave birth to an unusual albino joey last year. We thought you would like a little update so here’s a video from yesterday afternoon. He or she, we are still not sure yet, is not yet fully grown and is still so fluffy and very cute indeed. 💕💕💕
Our red kangaroos know how to chill 😃Did you know….a group of kangaroos is known as a mob, troop or court.
Good morning with Tilly our six-banded armadillo, she is so cute💕😊. We are open this weekend 10am until 4pm last admission at 3pm. We’re open for the Easter holidays from Friday 29th March, tickets are now on sale via our website www.lintonzoo.com Have a lovely day!
🌧️🌧️ It’s not stopped raining all night and this is the road outside our gates this morning! Lovely to see a few visitors have come out to see us😊☔️. Definitely not the weather we had hoped for as it’s the start of the half term holiday week ☹️. We are open daily up until and including next Sunday 25th, 10am until 4pm, last admission at 3pm.
Thank you to James Welch for sharing this video of Kali and Nabulaa, he says “Probably the laziest lion football I've ever seen thought you'd enjoy” 🦁😊Nabulaa definitely needs to give Kali lessons😂🤣
😍Happy birthday Erro, one year old today! 😍😍💕Here he is playing in the pool with mum Tiana and big sister Tamara during the storm yesterday afternoon.
☀️☀️☀️💕💕💕 Catching some sun rays this morning. Our gorgeous boy Ziziki, still so handsome and still such a good looker for just past 20 years old!
Our tapirs have three feeds a day of chopped veg, fruit, cereal, herbs and hay but their favourite is still always browse!
The weather is looking okay for the weekend, we’re open 10am to 5pm with the last admission at 4pm. Our education team will be out with some of the smaller zoo animals for you to meet at 1pm.
We are still encouraging visitors to pre book tickets via our website but it is no longer essential, you can just turn up! Hope to see you soon😊.
☀️☀️☀️☀️We’ve experienced some very warm temperatures over the last week or so, our thermometers recorded 32 degrees! The Aldabran giant tortoises enjoy the sprinkler or a soak in their nice muddy wallow on these hot, dry sunny days.☀️☀️☀️☀️
☀️☀️☀️☀️ After a hot dry day out on the paddock our Hartmann’s all think it’s the perfect time for a dust bath.☀️☀️☀️☀️
🥰🥰Our Southern ground hornbills love a pile of dry leaves to rummage through. It’s great enrichment especially when we mix in some of their favourite fruit and veg pieces and also some tasty mealworms. Watch two of our youngsters, Luki and Lakicia having a great time this morning.
Just like people, tapirs need a little covering of sunscreen to protect them from the effects of bright sunlight. Their most sensitive areas are their ears and nose. Thank you to the supporter who recently donated a couple of tubes of factor 50 waterproof, sensitive skin sunscreen from our Amazon wish list and to all the anonymous donors who have also made recent purchases of other very useful goodies for our animals.
We’re still open daily except 13th September. To guarantee admission please purchase your tickets through our website. Enjoy the last few days of the summer holidays!
Some of you have been asking about Riziki and Karla our grandparent African lions. We would like to reassure you that they are both well. During Covid the pathway to their enclosure was too narrow for social distancing, on reopening we realised that Rizi had become intolerant of some visitors trying to provoke a reaction from him whilst he was snoozing up the front. We decided, as Rizi and Karla at 19 years old and now seniors (Rizi is the second oldest male lion in the uk) we would retire them from public view. You can of course still see our other four lions at the top enclosure.
Our very loving pair Zuri and Safina…..with the snowy and freezing weather this last few days they are enjoying their very luxurious facilities, especially the underfloor heating!
Such a beautiful and peaceful day, three of our Hartmann’s enjoying the sun whilst at least eight red kites and buzzards soar higher and higher above them. The weather doesn’t look too bad for the weekend, some tickets are still available via our website www.lintonzoo.com
