Equestrian Farm Feeds Ltd

Equestrian Farm Feeds Ltd Providing equestrian feeds, supplements and chaff to customers via delivery or on site.

Equestrian and Farm Feeds have been trading for over 30 years in Lisburn Co.Antrim
Originally opened and managed by the well known Nicholson Family in 1980 as a distributor of Equestrian feeds and supplements the business went from strength to strength. In 1987 the Nicholson’s identified a gap in the Irish Equine market for branded complete feed solutions and thus a manufacturing facility was intr

oduced to the business. This investment to the company was to manufacture some of the finest quality horse chaffs available in UK and Ireland today. We hold long term tenure franchise agreements to produce Chaffs and feedstuffs which have found their way into some of the best yards in Ireland, Willie Mullins, Dermot Weld and Former World Showjumping Champion Dermott Lennon are just some of the Top Trainers and Riders in the world that have required products from EFF.

Fibre is the single most important component of a horse or pony’s diet. Our horse feeds contain up to 26% fibre. This fibre is from a number of sources including Sugar Beet, often called a “super food” for horses.

Why is this:
• Exceptionally high in digestible fibre
• Low sugar
• A safe energy source
• Excellent for hydration
• Beneficial for gut health
• Great for weight gain and condition
• Suitable for all types of horses

Fast Fibre contains molasses free beet pulp and is a versatile feed that is suitable for horses and ponies prone to laminitis, and it can be used as a partial hay replacer.

In addition to joint support and essential nutrients to balance forage, SPILLERS Supple & Senior Balancer contains probiotic live yeast and prebiotic MOS to support digestive health. Probiotic live yeast may help to maintain a more stable pH in the hindgut and improve fibre digestibility, while MOS may help to support gut health and immunity by helping to remove ‘bad bacteria’ from the gut.

Digestive health tip: make all changes in diet (including forage) and management gradually wherever possible!

The horse’s large intestine or ‘hindgut’ is home to trillions of tiny microbes including bacteria, viruses and fungi which are essential for fibre digestion and helping to regulate the immune system. While sudden and/ or frequent changes in diet should be avoided for all horses, research in healthy horses found that ageing was associated with reduction in the diversity of hindgut microbes, which may make some older horses more sensitive to changes in diet.

Whether you are trying to manage a poor doer or a good doer, understanding how many calories your feed is providing per daily serving is a good place to start.

You may have noticed that the word ‘calories’ doesn’t feature in the nutrient table on your feed bag. Although we tend to associate ‘energy’ with behaviour or performance and ‘calories’ with bodyweight,
they are in fact the same thing (calories is a measurement of energy). In human nutrition, energy is measured in kilocalories, hence the commonly used term 'calories'. In the UK, energy in equine diets is
described in 'megajoules of digestible energy' which is often abbreviated to 'MJ DE/ kg' on feed bags andin literature.
The amount of calories consumed from any feed will depend on how much of it is eaten – there are less calories in one square of chocolate than in a whole bar!

Let's compare SPILLERS™ Senior Conditioning Mix and SPILLERS™ Supple & Senior Balancer for example.

Both feeds contain a full complement of vitamins and minerals to provide a balanced diet when fed at the recommended amount (alongside forage). The recommended feeding rate for SPILLERS Senior Conditioning Mix is 3kg per day for a 500kg horse - this provides 36.6 MJ DE.

The recommended feeding rate for SPILLERS Supple & Senior Balancer is just 500g per day for a 500kg horse - this provides around 5 MJ DE making the daily serving 6 times lower in calories!

senior range of feeds are thoughtfully formulated to offer complete support in three key areas: joint, digestive, and immune health.

Many older horses experience joint stiffness, which is why our feeds include added joint support to promote mobility and comfort.

We also recognise the importance of digestive health in seniors, so our formulations are designed with easily digestible ingredients and added pre and probiotics to ensure optimal gut function.

Additionally, immune support is crucial for older horses, and our feeds are enriched with nutrients that help bolster their immune systems.
