Our Luxstowe Christmas Elves Lucy and Tegan have been busy packing up our ‘Christmas in a bag’ donations, ready to take to Liskeard & Looe Foodbank inc Torpoint & Rame next week.

Thanks to all the staff who donated, we managed to make up 7 full bags !! With an extra bag of dog and cat treats🎅🏼

🧡Dexter🧡

Dexter is feeling a little lighter after having a 3.4kg tumour removed from his abdomen

Dexter was rushed to Luxstowe Vets in after collapsing, and an ultrasound scan revealed the huge mass which was attached to his spleen.

Vet Tom Beale performed surgery to remove the tumour and Dexter's spleen. Luckily, the mass was not malignant and Dexter's owners report that their 10-year-old pet is enjoying a new lease of life since the operation.

We had a bit of excitement this week when .stock_commercial came into the Liskeard surgery to take some photos of Dexter, his family and Vet Tom. VetPartners UK want to do a press release about Dexter’s amazing story !!

Dexter came in to see us in September and long story short, ended up having major surgery to remove a massive tumour. In October we got the amazing news that the tumour was benign 🎉

Everyone at Luxstowe and Dexter’s family are so pleased with how well he has recovered.

Thank you to Dexter’s family for bringing him in for his photo shoot looking so smart in his tie, for choosing Dexter’s story and to .stock_commercial for taking the photos 🧡

💚This week In patient Nurse Cara had her hands and her ward full of hedgehogs most of them babies.

Can you guess how many we had?

It was the most we’ve ever admitted in 1 week and most of them were able to go to Prickles and Paws Hedgehog Rescue for ongoing treatment and rehabilitation.

Prickles and paws are also extremely busy and with so many little mouths to feed are in urgent need of supplies. Take a look at their page to see what they need and how you can donate if you would like to 🦔💚

Luxstowe Vets is a busy 1st opinion practice and we are looking for RVN's to join our friendly and pro-active team
You will be joining an existing team of 9 RVN’s, 2 SVN's & a ACA who are all passionate about providing exceptional veterinary care.
We have an experienced team of vets who value and appreciate the role of a veterinary nurse. Our nurses are encouraged to utilise their full skill sets, with equal time shared between anaesthesia/theatre, inpatient care, laboratory work, nurse clinics and other general nursing tasks.
At Luxstowe Vets, we are a close knit team that likes to socialise when events are organised. We love any excuse for a good social – as demonstrated by the video!
We want our staff to enjoy coming to work and encourage an open, supportive environment which allows our team to flourish and reach their potential.
Full or part time roles will be considered, both with an equal share of the out of hours rota (on average 1 week in every 8-9 weeks on-call) to include Saturday mornings (on average of 2 Saturday mornings in 8-9 weeks). This involves being available to the on call vet during the night only. You will have the days to yourself during this week.
The full time role would consist of 40 hours per week, made up of 4x 08.15am - 5.00pm days, and 1x 08.30am - 06.30pm day.
In return for your dedication and hard work as an RVN, we can offer:
CPD budget of £600 and 3 CPD days.
Salary dependant on experience, starting from £25,000 (full time)
32 days annual leave including bank holidays
Enhanced sick pay and family benefits
HealthShield cash plan

The name registered to her chip is 'Minnie' and although she was found in Liskeard she may be missing from the St Cleer area.️🔸️

Piper came in today for a Laparoscopic Ovariectomy (Keyhole spay) and when the nurses found out it was her 2nd birthday today they decided she deserved a little present 🎁

🦔 Early morning selfie for Nurses Jenny and Rachel this morning 💚

Their morning started off looking after this little one, who came in cold and dehydrated.

Between them Jenny and Rachel removed over 40 ticks !!

Once fit to travel he was taken to Prickles and Paws Hedgehog Rescue by one of their amazing volunteer drivers 🚑 🦔

⚠️WARNING IMAGES OF SURGERY & TUMOUR ⚠️

🧡Dexter🧡

Dexter came into us after experiencing a collapsing episode. Investigations, bloods and an ultrasound scan were performed which revealed a large abdominal mass.

The decision was made to perform exploratory surgery to find out exactly what the mass was and if it could be removed.

The very large mass was within Dexter’s spleen. Vet Tom was able to remove it performing a splenectomy (complete removal of the spleen) with Head Nurse Jenny assisting and looking after Dexter whilst under general anaesthetic.

Dexter recovered well from the anaesthetic and splenectomy surgery and yesterday we got the news we had all been waiting for ….the tumour was not malignant !!!! 🎉

Check out the photos of the 3.2 kg tumour which was 27x23cm !!!!

Dexter recovered and received his bravery certificate, which he really did deserve !!

🧡Today we said goodbye to Georgia and Finn

Georgia has been our Locum Vet since May whilst travelling from Australia 🇦🇺.

We wish her and Finn, her lovely travel buddy all the best for their next adventure …..we’ll miss you both 🧡

Meet Brave Tiger the Cornish Rex

Tiger was rushed into us after a member of the p***c found him after he had been hit by a car.

Tiger’s owners were traced via his microchip.

We took X-rays here and found he had a fractured pelvis

He was referred to specialists at who repaired his pelvis.
