Tommy Update 4 -

Tommys Teeth and Castrate has been signed off from the vet- he has recovered so so well considering his age!

They have booked his final vaccine booster in the 2 weeks time, and in those 2 weeks we will be starting to I cooperate Harder foods back into his diet- however I’m sure Tommy will disagree as he is loving the fish, Meat etc he is being fed!

He is all stocked up on flea and worming treatments, we are currently working on getting all the excess fluff off him, which will be followed by another bath to get him back to White!

He also managed to persuade Katie and Sarah to have a a short stroll in Town! ❤️

Thanks for St Peter’s Vets for all the support- and thank you everyone for your kind words, donations and support! ✨

Dogs Vitals

It’s important to know what’s normal for YOUR dog as every dog will have slightly different Vitals and can help out if you ever think your dogs poorly, if you go to the vet and you are concerned tell them what their “ Normal Vitals at home are !

Heart Rate - beautifully demonstrated by Otis and Poppy, different sized dogs however always in the same place, To find there heart rate you need to have them ideally standing or laying on their side.

You should go to the top of their back leg just inside the groin as you can see in the video the vein is pulsing.

Hold down firmly always using your fingers never your thumb - a thumb has a beat if its own, so sometimes you feel your heart instead.
Then once you have the beat may have to move around a bit to find it , stopwatch 15 seconds on the clock!

Count until the 15 seconds is over, however many beats you counted in 15 seconds times it by 4 to make it up to what would be a minute.

A normal range for a resting heart rate is between 60- 140 times a minute, the larger they breed the slower the heart rate. If they are young or a puppy expect their heart rate to be higher!

However after exercise this can go above 160bpm

Have one recording for relaxing and one recording for after exercise, you will need to conduct 2/3 tests for both of these to find the average, X2 checks a week for 2/3 weeks!

Gum/ tongue colour - check regularly so you can see their normal! A healthy gum should be a pinky colour, however some breeds of dogs could have darker gums/ tongues- so don’t panic!

A change in gum/ Tongue colour can mean a lot of different things, some we have listed in the video, but please don’t panic by a slight change, it’s just helpful to know as a base where they normally sit! If you are ever concerned call the vet!

Capillary refill time- ( CRP)

Process-
1 - press the gum firmly with your finger for 2-3 seconds.

2- Let go with your finger, the gum should be white as you let go, however the gum should return to the pinky colour within 1-2 seconds.

“What is CRP? It measures your pet's circulatory system by measuring the time it takes for blood to refill the small blood vessels in your dog's gums after pressure applied”

All the house dogs have different coloured gums, and this is their “ Normal”

Also take note of how wet their nose is, any discharge from nose/ eyes, smells in ears and mouth, any change - could be infection!

Tommy went into surgery on Monday with the amazing Team at St Peter’s vets!

He had his castrate done, and 19 teeth extracted which wasn’t as many as it could have been!

Surgery went well and he was stable throughout he stayed overnight at the vets until Tuesday morning as they wanted to keep an eye on him and ensure no bleeding.

We picked him up from the vet Tuesday morning as he was a little stressed being somewhere new and of course in discomfort.

We got him back to the kennels and he was feeling rough for a couple of days, however Thursday evening he quiet happily went for a wonder around the kennels and ate properly for the first time since his operation.. he had been eating very small amount prior.

His diet is consisting of fish and trays of meat to not hurt his gums so all the sardines donated are helping him at the moment!

As you can see from the video he is back to his cuddly self, we didn’t get any videos in the middle section as he was feeling very poorly and sorry for himself.

Once he is fully recovered, and has his final check overs from the vet, in 3 weeks time, he will be up for adoption! ✨

Thank you again for all your support on Tommy as without you all we wouldn’t have been able to afford this surgery.

Tommy Update 2-

Katie and Tommy headed to the vets yesterday for a Full Health check, Vaccinations and discussions about Tommys teeth- and of course lots of fuss by everyone!

Tommy has been booked into the vets next week to have a castration done, and removal of his teeth. At this time they are unsure of how many teeth will need to be removed and how many can be saved- everyone’s fingers are crossed that he will only need one procedure however the vets aren’t sure.

Tommy is now up to date on all Vaccinations, Flea and Worming Treatment, and has had a lovely bath!

He has got some medication to start prior to his surgery to help with recovery, and stop any infections as they are concerned about his gums to the state of his teeth.

We will keep you all updated once Tommy is out of Surgery and recovering, but for now if you could all keep Tommy in your thoughts! ✨❤️

Road Closure- Liphook - Rake

We have been made aware that there is a road Closure from the Liphook Golf course to the turning to Milland from the Old A3 or what used to be the Black Fox Pub.

Incase any owners, Volunteers or Visitors come this way, there is a diversion in place, the best Route to us instead if you don’t know the area well, is to head on the A3 to Liss and come up Hill Brow Road and head towards Rake from that Direction, your Sat Nav should divert!

If you have any troubles or get lost please give us a call and we will help you out.

It’s shut from today 7th May 2024- 10 May 2024.
Shutting at 7.30 am - 6pm.

We hope this helps some of you out! ✨

Tommy Update 1!

Tommy and the whole team want to say a huge huge thank you to everyone who has donated, shared and commented wonderful messages after sharing Tommys Story.

We are blown away with how much support we have received over the past few days.

Tommy has settled in very well to the kennels and is loving all the fuss and attention, as you can tell by his huge smile!

He has had a bath so is smelling very clean, he has had flea and worming treatment, and is booked into the vet next week to have his vaccinations , Full Heath check and to make a plan about how we are going to go about taking his teeth out, as we believe this is going to have to be done in stages, along with his castrate.

However, for now he is loving life getting fed treats, eating Soft foods so it doesn’t hurt his teeth , playing with toys and getting all the attention in the world that he deserves.

Once again on behalf of Tommy THANK YOU! ❤️❤️

We will be posting regular updates on Tommys progress and steps. ✨

Urgent Rescue needing TLC-

Meet Tommy a lovely nearly 10 year old lad, Contacted by a Good Samaritan after Tommy’s Dad Took his own life leaving poor Tommy in the house on his own.

Someone has been visiting to feed and toliet him as and when they could, however for the past 6 weeks he has been on his own.

The Good Samaritan rang us after messaging and ringing many other shelters/ Charities with no one wanting to help.

Continuing the beliefs of the founders of the kennels, we felt we needed to step in and go and get Tommy as no Greyhound or Dog should be left in that situation.

So Sarah and Katie arrange to go collect Tommy on Thursday 30th April.- a 2 hour road trip later they arrived!

However, As you can see from the photos, or best photos we could get! He is a big gorgeous lad! However not Neutered, and as you can see from the photo his teeth are in an awful condition and he is in a lot of pain.

We will be funding all of Tommys Funds, including the Dental, Neutering costs, Flea and worming and all the ongoing care until we can find him another home.

We hate asking for help, however in this case Tommy’s’ vet bill could rack up very quickly and could be thousands of pounds.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and of course we will be updating/ Sharing Tommys story.

Please share this if you can, as all the awareness is what Tommy needs and if anyone thinks they could Offer him a home when he is ready, please get in contact.

Thanks in Advance
Tommy and the PGT Team xx
