So what exactly can you expect when you go into the vet to get your cat chipped? Read below for the low down:

When a vet scans a pet’s microchip, they use a handheld scanner (like this one which emits a low-frequency radio wave. This scanner activates the chip, causing it to read and display their unique identification number on the screen.

Your vet can use this number to look up the pet’s information in a database, which includes details like the pet’s name and contact information.

- This helps reunite lost pets with their owners and ensures our pets receive proper care.

It’s natural to have questions and concerns about your pet before going into the vet, as we pet parents want to be informed and in the know about our pets, they’re part of the family after all!
.and with the new cat microchipping laws coming into place on the 10th of June, you, a friend or a family member might be considering taking a cat in to get chipped!

That’s where VidiVet comes in! If you are ever worried about bringing nervous cats into the practice or reassuring your own concerns, drop us a message on the VidiVet app and one of our amazing vets will be happy to help

Don’t forget to share this post with anyone who might find it useful! Enjoyed this post? Why not let us know what you’d like to see next?

As dog owners, we all want the best for our furry companions. While it's tempting to share our meals with them, not all human foods are safe for dogs. Here’s a guide to some safe and healthy foods you can share with your dog, and how best to prepare them! 🥣

As a rule of thumb, make sure you serve these snacks in moderation, and not as a replacement to their daily meals. If you have any questions or concerns about your dog's diet or aren't sure whether something they’ve eaten is safe, don't hesitate to ask us on the VidiVet app.

Our team of veterinary experts is here 24/7 to provide you with the advice and reassurance you need to keep your furry friend healthy and happy.
Wherever you are. Whenever you need it. VidiVet is here for you!

Feel free to share this post with other dog owners to help them keep their pets safe and healthy. Your pet's health is our priority at VidiVet!

Happy Fresh Breath Day VidiVetter’s! Just like you, staying on top of your pet’s dental health is essential! 🪥

Unlike people, our pets can’t always tell us when something doesn’t feel right - but there are a few ways they might give us signs there is an issue 🦷

Here are a few examples:

Are they chewing biscuits or meat differently?
Have they stopped wanting to eat their biscuits?
Is blood visible on their gums? Or when you brush their teeth?
Do they have smelly breath?
Are they licking their lips more?

If you’ve noticed any of these recently, why not drop us a message on the VidiVet app? One of our amazing vets be happy to advise on your best next steps!

Did you know that you should never leave your dog alone in a hot car? Even when the windows are left open, cars get very hot very fast, and dogs feel the heat even more than we humans do!

This can also be similar for cats and dogs who may get trapped in hot greenhouses, so it's important to keep an eye on your pets during this hot weather, especially anything over 20 degrees.

If you're unsure if your pet needs to visit the vet for heatstroke or dehydration, or you have any questions about summer safety, you can ask VidiVet a question about your pet any time of day, 365 days a year and a vet will get back to you in just a few minutes with your suggested next steps.

*You can also send us an accompanying video of the pet, showing their behaviour and their gum colour.

In cases like this, it helps to give your vet as much info as possible, so be sure to include any symptoms they are experiencing and if there is any reason to be concerned (age, health complications, size).

Why? 💭

So our vets can get back to you as quickly as possible with the next steps and a measure of how urgent your case may be! 🩺

…and of course, give you the peace of mind you deserve about your pet!

Even though we try our best to keep our pets hydrated and cool during the hot weather, accidents happen so it’s important to have a plan ready 🐶

Warning signs of heat exhaustion to look out for include:
☀️ Frantic panting/Very laboured breathing
☀️ Extreme salivation/drooling
☀️ Lethargy or disorientation
☀️ Dry, sticky, bruised or discoloured gums
☀️ Seizures
☀️ Becoming wobbly on their feet, like they are drunk

If you're unsure if your pet needs to visit the vet with heat exhaustion, you can ask us a question on the VidiVet app about your pet any time of day, 365 days a year, and a vet will get back to you in just a few minutes with your suggested next steps.

You can also send us an accompanying video of the pet, showing their behaviour and their gum colour.

Pupdate No.2 here! Beginning your puppy journey can be overwhelming, so here’s a guide to what to prioritise in the lead-up to welcoming home your new puppy 🐶

1️⃣ Choose your pet:
Research and ask your vet about trusted local breeders 🐕‍🦺✔️
Ask questions about the litter, ask for references and don’t buy from puppy farms!

2️⃣ Choose your vet:
Research and find a friendly and experienced local vet - for checkups, vaccinations or other health issues 🩺

3️⃣ Get chipped:
Ensure your pet is microchipped to ensure they’re identifiable if lost - it’s a legal requirement!

4️⃣ Get insured:
Ask your vet about your options for insurance, which can help cover the cost of unexpected veterinary bills 💸

5️⃣ Make a training plan:
Teach your pup basic commands like sit, stay and come .
Consider enrolling in a training class 🎓

6️⃣ Prepare your home 🏡
Remove hazardous items 🍫
Stock up on necessary supplies 🧸 (see our next post)

If you have any questions about anything mentioned in this post - please don’t hesitate to ask VidiVet and one of our vets will be happy to answer you 📲

Happy 🐱Ever wondered where your cat loves to be petted the most? …and where they’d rather you stayed well away from!

Here are some purr-fect spots that many cats love (be mindful that every cat is different):

1️⃣ Chin and Cheeks: Most cats enjoy gentle scratches under the chin and along the cheeks

2️⃣ Base of the Ears: Soft rubs at the base of the ears

3️⃣ Top of the Head: Light strokes from the forehead to the back of the head are a favourite for many cats.

4️⃣ Along the Back: Long, gentle strokes from the neck down to the base of the tail can be acceptable to some cats. Just be wary going all the way to the tail tip as this can be a sensitive area to many cats!

5️⃣ Under the Collar: If your cat wears a collar, try scratching the area right underneath it. It’s often a hard-to-reach spot for them, and they’ll appreciate the extra help

Remember, every cat is unique! Pay attention to their body language and preferences. Some might love belly rubs, while many do not. Respect their signals and enjoy the special bond you share!

Got any special petting spots your cat loves? Share them in the comments! 🐱👇

And don’t forget if you have any questions and concerns about your cat, or find anything unusual when petting your cat, message us on the VidiVet app any time of the day or night, and one of our vets will be happy to help!

03/03/2024

As we prepare to celebrate this Mother’s Day, let’s also take a moment to raise awareness about lily poisoning in cats, especially since March is Poison Prevention Month.

Lilies are a popular flower to give as a gift, especially on Mother’s Day, but they are highly toxic to cats.

Even small amounts of lily pollen or leaves can be fatal if not treated by a vet immediately.

If you are a cat owner or know someone who is, please be mindful of the flowers you give as gifts and make sure they are not toxic to your furry friend?

And if you receive lilies as a gift, consider displaying them in a separate area.

Let’s spread the word and help keep our feline friends safe and healthy.
