Leaving music on for your cat can be a good idea, especially if they experience separation anxiety when left alone. While cats may not enjoy the same types of music as humans, music specifically composed for cats can be calming and help reduce stress.
Why it can be helpful:
* It can help to reduce stress when you’re not home. It can also help with separation anxiety by creating the illusion someone in home.
* It can help mask distracting noises such as fireworks, workmen or thunder.
What to do:
* Choose cat-specific music. If your cat doesn’t enjoy normal radio, cat music can be calming and helpful.
* Keep it on low volume and avoid loud or harsh music. These can stress your cat out even more.
* Observe your cat's reaction and make sure it’s soothing for them instead of stressful. If they like it you can continue to leave the radio on.
