I’m currently celebrating cat lady day by being smothered by my 3 gorgeous kitties. Izzy is always at her happiest when cuddled next to tabby Loki and Tristan loves being by my feet! I of course am under the blanket being a cat bed after a long day of helping look after other people’s cats. Living the dream 💜🐈‍⬛🐈

Can you believe this beautiful Tortie is over 16 human years old!? That’s pushing 80 in cat years! Gem is feeling super spritely today after a sampling of Valerian root. It’s certainly invigorated her and brought out her inner kitten 😻

If you are lucky enough to know any golden oldie felines why not treat them to a herb selection pack available to buy on our HerbalKat website. Please message us for more info 🐾

Firstly a big thank you to one of our customers for donating all these lovely cat goodies their cat Pancha isn’t interested in! They were taken straight to Tails Animal Welfare for some rescue cats to enjoy.

Secondly I am having the worst run of bad luck at the moment while Chloe is away so bear with me! It’s been ranging from an infected cat bite that needed antibiotics and a tetanus shot to an accidental nick on a vein in the back of my hand which swelled up massively and bruised to a mini black eye, not being able to move my knee and needing physio plus falling in a doorway at the gym! The fall left a massive bruise all down the back of my arm, a twisted ankle, a bruised bottom and the next day a pulled muscle in my shoulder blade/back. Seriously what is going on!

It can only get better from here…

I had a visitor out with me in the sunshine today. Amanda from Krazy Katz Photography asked to come and see what cat grooming was all about. Shes a cat specialist photographer in the North West that I met at The Cat Show Live last year and loved her work. She had her camera with her today to take some pictures of a range of my feline clients to build her portfolio. I’m looking forward to seeing the results some time next week hopefully 🤞🏻 plus we met bonus beautiful kittens 💜

Check her out if you’re looking for fine art photos of your cats to decorate your home.

Our golden oldie Merlin is such a good boy getting his eyes cleaned.
We use Katie’s home-made eye and ear wash.
It’s ingredients include:

🐈‍⬛ Chamomile Hydrosol which is soothing on Merlin’s sensitive eye area.

🐈‍⬛ Thyme Hydrosol which is antibacterial.

We use this tried and tested spray on all the cats we groom. It is available to buy on our herbal Kat website or alternatively if you have an upcoming booking let us know and we can bring some along to buy 🐾

Darcey never fails to amaze me with all the undercoat she manages to shed when I groom her! Combing all of this out will help reduce fur balls as well as help her regulate her temperature (especially as it’s getting warmer now finally!). It’s moulting season still in the UK where cats are shedding their thicker winter coat and growing a thinner summer one so it’s worth giving all your cats a quick brush. Yes even the short haired ones like Darcey 👍🏻

Message us if you’d like some brush and comb tips. We have a few that we always recommend (we aren’t affiliates, we just want the best for all cats).

Just a friendly reminder as I haven’t posted about this in a while to check your cats claws regularly. Especially older indoor cats who have health issues. If not kept in check then they can form these semi circles where they have grown around back into the paw pad.

It’s more typically the front claws but I have seen back ones curl like this too. Cats claws grow like our fingernails from the nail bed but they also develop a husk. When they scratch they shed that dead outer husk like a snake shedding its skin. It’s why you sometimes see what look like hollow claws near their favourite scratching posts. Older cats can have joint pain which makes scratching more difficult and the husk gets thicker and thicker until this happens.

If you have a vet check up it’s worth asking them to have a look for you or contact your local cat groomer 👌🏻

My 3 cats are happy to have me home after a quick trip to London to go to a gig and visit my dad. I haven’t been down to see him and his wife for ages and they always spoil me with good food and entertaining stories 👌🏻 I’ve been instructed to never leave the sofa again though now I’m back as I’m the preferred cat bed 🐈‍⬛

Chloe here: Today I met lovely Walter. He was rather knotted on his tummy and it needed to be fully shaved to remove them. Throughout the tummy shave Walter was such a good boy and let me get everything off easily, afterwards I checked through the fur on the top and sides with both of the combs. The fur had no knots so it was easier to brush through and he was very happy to help groom himself while I combed. To finish I trimmed his nails and cleaned his eyes and ears.

We are completely closed on Saturday and Sunday (5th and 6th) as both Katie and Sarah are away and any messages will be replied to on Monday the 7th.

I am off now for a couple of weeks, from the 5th and will be back working on the 25th of April, as I am going on holiday to Egypt. This is my first abroad holiday in nearly 15 years, I'm so excited to go and enjoy some time away in the sun.

Chloe here: Today I saw beautiful Cilla. I gave her a check over with both the coarse comb and moulting comb to help remove shedding fur and check for any knots on her back, sides and tummy. Luckily she didn't have any knots and her fur was in really nice condition. Her human helped hold her for her sanitary trim as she isn't a fan of me trimming back there and I trimmed the fluff off the bottom of her paws as she has been having a problem with skidding in the house.

Afterwards I gave her some Valerian Root which she loves, today she decided that she would eat it straight away.

Something a little different today. I present this funny looking cat 😂 ok it’s an owl really 🦉 I was fortunate enough to visit The Owls Trust over in North Wales Llandudno recently and took my fancy camera. They are a small charity taking in rescued and injured birds of prey as well as having an educational side. Lastly they also help maintain breeding stocks of some very rare owls.

You can visit for free most days (check their website for times) and just leave a donation. The staff/volunteers are very knowledgable and happy to answer questions and you can even touch an owl or two if you’re very lucky (I was!). A great place for all ages if you have an hour to spare.

Katie - I do love working with the older cats especially ones who are dealing with health issues. It’s the main reason I got into this work, to help cats feel more comfortable and live their best lives. Puss here can be a little cranky but has learned quickly that I’m not here to hurt her or be mean. She always feels like a kitten again after I remove all her knots and brush out all that trapped undercoat. Now she won’t get so many fur balls, will be able to move more easily, groom herself and feel lighter, less itchy and be better able to regulate her temperature too.

Having her relax in my lap after her initial distrust is just the most wonderful thing. She stayed for fusses for a while after I was done too before trotting off to check on her humans 💜

Chloe here: Today I saw gorgeous Koda. He had some knots on his chest that needed shaving off so I used the small white clippers to remove them. He was a little bit wiggly but after letting him settle he let me take them off with little fuss. Afterwards I trimmed his claws and gave him and his brother some Valerian Root which they absolutely loved.

I know tattoos aren’t for everyone but I’d like to share my new tattoo that I had done at thedevilsclubuk by sophieviolettattoo on Monday. I wanted something that would immortalise Eris forever on my skin but that also represented all the cats I’ve loved and will love.

It’s a tattoo for me and is placed under my collar bone on the left where she would sleep and curl up for cuddles. It’s also near my heart and I had some of her ashes mixed in with the ink.

I wanted something that showed the beautiful markings on her face and her ginger nose. Her mother was a tortishell and you can see the orange in Eris that she inherited from her. I am so impressed with the level of detail Sophie managed to incorporate and so glad I found her work. She’s done a few pet portraits now and if this is your thing I highly recommend her.

Chloe here: Today I met gorgeous Pepper. She's a really fluffy cat but thanks to daily brushing from her human she was knot free and when I combed her with both combs there wasn't much fur shedding off her either. I gave her a sanitary trim to help keep her fluffy bottom clean which she was not pleased about at all and trimmed her claws for her. She wasn't impressed with me after she was done and went and sat under the radiator before I let her out of the bathroom.

About Me

For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to work with animals, specifically cats. I was brought up in a household with cats and have always felt a special affinity with them and am lucky to have four in my life at the moment. As a teenager I worked in a veterinary practice and spent a summer at Knowsley Safari Park while in sixth form as my childhood dream was to be a vet. I loved the work, but found the sadder aspects more difficult so decided to do my degree in Biochemistry and Neurobiology instead, for which I gained a 2:1. Around 2014 I became quite sick and had to stop working altogether to concentrate on my own health and wellbeing which gave me a chance to really think about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.

I eased back into work as a cat sitter for The Cat Sit Company (a lot more demanding than I expected!) and dared to dream that I may be able to work with cats as a career after all.... I found that by looking after a range of different breeds, types and ages of cats and engaging with their owners, I became really interested in cat wellness and grooming which is what led me to researching cat grooming as a potential career. It seemed so right for me to study and I’m so excited to finally be doing my dream job. Alongside grooming I’m also studying an advanced diploma in Feline Behaviour to further understand and work with these adorably fascinating creatures. The wellbeing and health of cats will always be a priority and a passion for me and now I am ready to make this my life.

Who knew that ill health could lead to such a complete change happening in my life and that this would turn out in such a positive way, where I get to do what truly makes me happy!
