I’ve decided that I need a few days away to start to work through some of my grief over losing my Eris cat. Sarah has the work phone and I’m going on a much needed wellness retreat in Wales to decompress and try and start to heal. I’ll be leaving my personal phone off while I’m away to focus on myself. I’ve been finding it very difficult without my shadow companion and I can’t express my grief around my other 3 cats so doing some self care before it hits me too hard and causes me longer term issues hopefully.

Thanks for your understanding the last month. I’ll be back in work on Friday 14th Feb and Chloe is working as usual in the meantime.

As well as cat grooming and feline behaviour I also do healing work with cats and other animals. I did some distance work with George via zoom who hasn’t been himself recently. He is an ex stray who was taken in by a lovely human who had a house with 4 cats already. In the time since George joined the family all 4 others have sadly passed away with Nala passing in October and Tinkerbell in January.

I have worked with all of the 5 cats as a groomer and healer alongside their veterinary care so feel their loss keenly as well. George hadn’t been acting his usual friendly self and was keeping more to himself as he professed his grief. He was also picking up on a lot of his humans emotions having lost her long time feline companions.

I did some energy work with George and made some suggestions to his human. I also did some work with her to help her heart. Since then he has been back hanging out with his human and relaxing out in the open which is beautiful to see. Anything I can do to help cats always warms my heart 💜

Chloe here: I saw lovely gorgeous Daisy today for her groom. She needs a really good brush usually to stop any knots forming and to remove the fur that is shedding. I use the coarse comb first to check for knots before using the moulting comb to go over her fur, she had a couple knots and a lot of fur that combed out. After a thorough comb I gave her a sanitary trim to help keep her back end clean, trimmed her claws and cleaned her eyes and ears. After she was finished she was very eager to get back into her carrier to go back home.

Jak before and after his groom with me today. He’s an ex feral and still very timid around humans so I try and keep his grooms as short as possible. It doesn’t help that his favourite spot is by the pond outside though 😂 he is prone to knots in the usual spots around his back legs, armpits, chin, chest and base of ears. Somehow he also always has filthy ears unlike his 3 siblings!

While I’m there I apply his flea treatment after his groom. He’s a very sweet boy once he starts to relax a little and I do my best to keep reassuring him and keep him calm. He enjoys a good brush but isn’t so fond of having his underneath exposed which is totally fair play.

Chloe here: I saw lovely Bailey today for his regular claw trim. He's an older boy so he isn't wearing his claws down like a younger cat would. He's really good while I trim the claws and afterwards he gets some comfrey to enjoy, which is his favorite herb. He loves to roll on it and today he decided he wanted the whole herb bag which was very entertaining to watch for his owner and I.

Chloe here: A bit of a different post today as I have some very exciting news to share. Just over 2 weeks ago I managed to pass my driving test first time. As I had a slot later on in the day I had a long wait and the nerves had built up before I'd even got in the car. Thankfully I managed to do alright and only got 4 minors. I can't wait to start driving for work. It is going to make a huge difference for me but, it will take me time to build my confidence up to start driving to clients and there is no set time on how long that may take.

I have some slots available on Monday the 3rd of Feb so if your cat is in need of some extra love do give us a message.

Chloe here: I met gorgeous Snowy for a groom recently, he's a very fluffy boy. I gave him a really good brush with my coarse comb to start off, this helped to begin to remove the fur that was shedding along with checking for knots. After I'd finished with my coarse comb I then used my moulting comb to check his fur for any sneaky knots. He had some rather tight knots around his chest which needed to be shaved with the small white clippers and another tight one under his chin. I checked along his tummy with the coarse comb and clipped out the couple of knots I found. Afterwards I gave him a sanitary trim to help him keep his fluffy bum clean, trimmed his nails and cleaned his ears.

After he was done he was happy to let me give him some fuss while I tidied up.

Evening all from a very blustery Liverpool! Apologies if we’ve needed to rearrange your booking today due to the high winds!

Bella cat is not amused by the storm and it’s proving difficult to keep her entertained. She does however make a fabulous muse for my eldest’s artwork when she’s not trying to eat the pencils 😼

Thank you for all your kind words, it’s been such a difficult time. Today I brought her home for good and she’s next to my bed where she belongs. I’m so broken without her and even though she was tiny in body she took up so much space with her character and massive heart. Not having her with me at bedtime is the hardest and I’m just completely exhausted from barely sleeping.

Tomorrow is one of the biggest storms in the UK so we are redoing our schedule to keep things as local as possible, but so much will depend on weather conditions when we wake up.

Here’s to a much better February…

Chloe here: I saw Charlie for a groom today, he's an older boy at over 20 years old. I gave him a really good brush with my coarse comb to start because he had knots hidden in his fur, further back on his body he became more knotty. Luckily all of the knots were able to be combed off and he was so patient while I took the time to comb them out. Throughout his groom his human was there to give him reassurance and that definitely helped. When it came time to check his tummy I used my clippers to shave any knots off as that is the kindest thing for him because it is a delicate area. Afterwards I checked his fur with the moulting comb to ensure there were no sneaky knots that may have been left, trimmed his claws and cleaned his ears, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

After he was done he went and sat under the coffee table and had a rest.

I’ve been putting off writing this post as my heart is broken but it’s time. After a week of nursing my soul cat Eris after her health rapidly deteriorated on Tuesday I said goodbye to her. As well as being blind, deaf, hyperthyroid, high blood pressure, kidney disease, 2 x heart murmurs and low potassium the vet found a large mass in her abdomen which was the final straw for her. I had to make the right decision for her rather than me and she passed in my arms against my heart and with me telling her how much I love her.

I’ve taken the rest of this week off work as I’m honestly a mess. I have loved many cats and have 3 more with me, but there was always something special about Eris and the bond we shared. She was my shadow and my life feels so empty without her. She slept on my pillow every night for over 15 years and was never far from my side.

I’m aiming to be back working on Monday but taking everything one day/hour at a time so please do forgive me if things change last minute for a little while. She was my whole world and I’m so lost without her.

Chloe here: I saw lovely Penny for a groom today. I gave her a really good brush with both of my combs and the zoom groom to help remove the fur that she was shedding. When I started she began to purr and loved some fuss, but closer to the end of her groom she started to become impatient and she didn't hesitate to let me know. Once she'd been brushed I trimmed her claws, which were very sharp, and cleaned her eyes and ears.

I’m behind the scenes organising bookings whilst Katie and Chloe are busy grooming our lovely feline customers!
I live with my husband, 3 children and 3 cats (Merlin, Minnie and Bella). We originally planned to foster Bella but that plan went out the window when she bewitched my husband! He’s a ‘dog person’ so this is quite the achievement!
Bella is Maine c**n and rather high maintenance. On the cat personality scale I’d grade her as ‘fiery’.
However, her breed are prone to knotting and she’s no exception. The Kat lady has been a fountain of knowledge in helping to maintain Bella’s beautiful coat and keep her comfortable and knot free!
So don’t be afraid if your cat is in the tricky club! We’ll always try to stay within their comfort zone, earn their trust and find a peaceful solution to their grooming problems!

Chloe here: I saw Gorgeous Aeris and Ember yesterday for their regular claw trims. Aeris always has a grumble while I'm trimming her claws while her sister Ember is good as gold and doesn't take long to get them all done. When I had finished with Ember's claws her sister was waiting right outside to come in once I opened the door. Both girls love Valerian so I always make sure to lay out the towel on the floor and leave two piles on each end of it. They tend to have a good roll in the herb and enjoy eating it afterwards.

Daisy is an older lady living her best life surrounded by treats and herbs to choose from in her own time. She needed a bit of a tidy up and a check of her claws now she’s not so motivated to groom herself as much. She was such a sweetheart to work with and I’m looking forward to seeing her again soon.

Chloe here: I saw Beautiful Hazel today. Hazel is currently pregnant and is due in around 2 weeks so I visited to trim around her bottom and her tummy. As she is so fluffy we opted to trim the whole tummy rather than just around her ni***es, this will help her kittens to find them to drink their milk after they're born without the fur getting in the way. Trimming her bottom will help keep the area clear for when she delivers her kittens.

When working with pregnant cats our priority is not causing too much stress for the mother, this means that at any signs of stress we would stop and end the session there.

Sorry to share something sad today but I feel it is important to spread a bit of awareness.

We had a message from Noodles family to say he had a possibly mat that needed our attention and there was some blood visible. As always in a situation like this we refer our clients to the vet. Often there is a wound underneath that the fur hides. Bites are common and can cause abscesses which usually need some antibiotics and pain relief.

This time though we are so sad to hear that Noodle was the victim of a pellet after being shot with an air type gun of some sort. Luckily the vet was able to remove it and he is back at home recovering. Obviously this is a horrible thing for anyone to have done for any reason whatsoever. By law cats are classed as property in the UK and have the right to roam. Hurting or causing pain to one is a criminal offence and this includes poisoning too.

This happened in the Halewood area of Liverpool. Please do keep an eye on your animals and if you have any information do let us know. It has been reported to the police as it is a crime as well as just plain cruel. Hopefully it was a one off incident but always better to be safe.

*** edited to add : while I appreciate the sentiment can you guys refrain from comments saying he should have been kept indoors. That’s a whole other topic, let’s keep the focus on people not harming animals in this instance ***

About Me

For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to work with animals, specifically cats. I was brought up in a household with cats and have always felt a special affinity with them and am lucky to have four in my life at the moment. As a teenager I worked in a veterinary practice and spent a summer at Knowsley Safari Park while in sixth form as my childhood dream was to be a vet. I loved the work, but found the sadder aspects more difficult so decided to do my degree in Biochemistry and Neurobiology instead, for which I gained a 2:1. Around 2014 I became quite sick and had to stop working altogether to concentrate on my own health and wellbeing which gave me a chance to really think about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.

I eased back into work as a cat sitter for The Cat Sit Company (a lot more demanding than I expected!) and dared to dream that I may be able to work with cats as a career after all.... I found that by looking after a range of different breeds, types and ages of cats and engaging with their owners, I became really interested in cat wellness and grooming which is what led me to researching cat grooming as a potential career. It seemed so right for me to study and I’m so excited to finally be doing my dream job. Alongside grooming I’m also studying an advanced diploma in Feline Behaviour to further understand and work with these adorably fascinating creatures. The wellbeing and health of cats will always be a priority and a passion for me and now I am ready to make this my life.

Who knew that ill health could lead to such a complete change happening in my life and that this would turn out in such a positive way, where I get to do what truly makes me happy!
