About Us

Our charity is based on the belief that all animals deserve a loving and comfortable home and meeting these needs are of the utmost importance. Our entire team is committed to getting results for the animals in our care and we all work towards the goal of creating a loving environment, whether in our care or in their new homes, our charity aims to promote health and well being in all th

e animals we care for. The History

Animal Aid was founded in 1990 by Susan Geeleher and Kay Sheridan and was granted charitable status in September 1990 by the Charity Commission, registered charity no 1143133. Its main aims are to rescue abused and abandoned cats and to offer them a safe environment with any medical care that the animals require. At first we rented 6 units from private boarding kennels in Melling; we eventually were able to rent all the units and build a cattery. As the volunteer base grew, in 1992 we were offered a piece of land in Field Lane, Fazakerley at a peppercorn rent and we were able to build 12 kennels, a large cattery and a small administration unit. Unfortunately after 3 years at Field Lane, the owner sold the land for redevelopment and we had to move out. The cats are now housed in a purpose built cattery. We ensure that any person wishing to adopt any of our animals has the necessary home checks to ensure a safe and loving environment before adoption is agreed. The Charity relies on donations from the public and the income from the shop which is staffed entirely by volunteers - without their help we would not be able to function.

UPDATE : SOLD
Unfortunately, and we believe to be petty and unnecessary, our post to sell a pair of trainers was reported and taken down. The reason given was that we were trying to deceive the public by posting ' possible counterfeit goods '.
As a rescue we need to raise funds when and where we can ,so to the disgruntled person who just had to report it ,well I'll leave judgement!! By the way ,trainers are still available to purchase at our charity shop at a reduced cost.
Thankyou

Our gorgeous little Ember has started her new life today with her new daddy Steven.
Ember has not been in rescue too long but at only 18 months old has already had two litters of kittens, Now nuetrered and in a new home Ember is ready to be a lady of leisure. Ember is such a gentle little girl and her daddy Steven has made his home so perfect for her. He has added shelves to the window ledge so she has more room to sit and watch the birds, she has two very large scratch posts, lots of toys and even her very own play room. We know that Steven will treat our little Ember like a princess and we are so happy for her.
Well done little sweetheart we wish you and Steven the best. Good luck Ember enjoy your new home ❤

Today is the day our boy Sydney starts his new life. We held on to Sydney for a while as we knew exactly what type of home he needed. He needed a home with no other pets, no children and a home that wasn't a busy one with people coming and going, a home where he feels comfortable and safe.
When Kate came to meet a few of our furry friends at the rescue she pointed at Sydney and asked me his name, when I replied "Sydney" the look of shock on kates face. She then began to tell me the cat she had for 14 years was also called Sydney and at that point I knew her heart was set on him. I asked Kate all the questions I needed to about other pets and children and i went to her home and I just knew Sydney definitely is the cat for her.
Sydney has been amazing while in rescue and he likes to follow us everywhere including the toilet, he is such a sweet little boy and we all will miss him at the rescue but his life starts today and we wish him and Kate the best life together.
Well done Sydney and good luck my friend. ❤

Great news for our beautiful Nermal today as she joins a couple of our other Animal Aid cats in her new home with our lovely volunteer Jan.
Nermal has recently lost her best friend Pooky to lymphoma, so it's upsetting that Nermal hasn't got her best friend joining her in her new home today. What we do know is Jan will give Nermal the best of everything.
Good luck Nermal and thank you Jan for choosing a very special little lady we will all miss her at the rescue but know she's about to start her best life 💖

Our beautiful boy Pooky was taken to the vets yesterday for a check up as he has been losing weight and we noticed he had a slight yellowing of his gums and swollen lymph nodes so we were concerned of what was going on with him. He had to be sedated as he was not allowing our vets to take blood from him. When the blood results came back it was not good news. Pooky had all the signs of lymphoma/cancer and was severely anaemic.
After a long conversation with our vets we decided we was not going to put our boy through anymore and had to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go peacefully while he was under sedation. We are devastated and making that decision was hard but we had to do what was best for Pooky. 💔
Pooky came to us with his friend Nermal and we wanted them to be rehomed together as they were so close i couldn't bare to separate them, its so sad that Nermal has now lost her best friend. I have spent a lot of time with Nermal today, rearranging her room to keep her occupied with new things too. Both Pooky and Nermal had a home waiting for them but Nermal will now be starting her new life without her best friend by her side. 😔 rip our gorgeous Pooky we will all miss you 🌈

Remember our gorgeous Piper.
Piper was adopted from us last year by Zuza who contacted us as soon as she saw Pipers post on Facebook. Piper was heavily pregnant when she came to us and gave birth to the most beautiful little babies. We had to let a lovely vet nurse take over feeding as our Piper was not producing milk, unfortunately the babies where too weak and over a couple of days they sadly passed away.
Poor Piper had been through so much and must of been so confused of where her babies had gone.
Zuza kept in touch with us still wanting to adopt Piper who she fell in love with at first glance. When Piper recovered and was eventually neutered, Zuza who had been so patient came to collect her girl and just look at her now, happy, settled and most of all loved.
Zuza tells me Piper has so much energy it's hard to keep up with her and her antics.
Thank you Zuza for sending these lovely photos ❤

It's 1 year today since our Valli and Pumpernickel where adopted by Bill and Steph. They have had a party today with lots of treats and as always are being spoilt rotten. Such beautiful girls they deserved the best life and they certainly have that in their home with such a lovely couple.
Thank you Bill and Steph ❤

I love little updates on our furry friends that have left our care and doing great in their new homes. Little Fester now Spencer is doing fabulous, he first came to us with his mum Wednesday and his auntie Pumpkin who are also doing good in their homes too. Rescue can be hard and emotional at times but receiving messages and photos like these really lift our spirits and are so lovely to see.
Thank you Wendy ❤

I think our gorgeous little Sydney has found a feline friend he actually likes. Sydney is such a loving and affectionate boy but isn't the biggest fan of other cats. We are looking for the perfect home for this beautiful boy with no other pets. Are you the person Sydney is waiting for please DM for more information.

Gorgeous Melon and Plum where adopted by Sheree last year and both girls are doing so well in their new home. Sheree tells me Plum and Melon are such characters and have there own funny little ways. We where delighted that both girls got adopted by Sheree after they both came into the rescue together, so it's lovely that both girls got to stay together in the end.
Such beautiful little ladies enjoying their best life thanks to Sheree and her family ❤

Little Binky was a very poorly little kitten spending days in the vets at a time on more than one occasion, on and off fluids and medications. At one point we thought this little man might not make it and we were all so worried at the rescue for this tiny little boy.
I used to go in and see him while he was at the vets and tell him to keep fighting as he had the best home waiting for him when he finally gets better. Binky fought hard and was slowly getting better being allowed to come back to us at the rescue where we had to keep a close eye on him. After a good few weeks he was finally back to his normal self and ready to meet his new mummy Elaine.
Elaine visited Binky a few times at the rescue before he was allowed to go home just so we was 100 percent sure Binky was still going in the right direction. Binky is a warrior for everything he has overcome and we are so proud of him. Just look at him now and the amazing bond he has with his mum Elaine. So beautiful to see ❤
