About Us

Our charity is based on the belief that all animals deserve a loving and comfortable home and meeting these needs are of the utmost importance. Our entire team is committed to getting results for the animals in our care and we all work towards the goal of creating a loving environment, whether in our care or in their new homes, our charity aims to promote health and well being in all th

e animals we care for. The History

Animal Aid was founded in 1990 by Susan Geeleher and Kay Sheridan and was granted charitable status in September 1990 by the Charity Commission, registered charity no 1143133. Its main aims are to rescue abused and abandoned cats and to offer them a safe environment with any medical care that the animals require. At first we rented 6 units from private boarding kennels in Melling; we eventually were able to rent all the units and build a cattery. As the volunteer base grew, in 1992 we were offered a piece of land in Field Lane, Fazakerley at a peppercorn rent and we were able to build 12 kennels, a large cattery and a small administration unit. Unfortunately after 3 years at Field Lane, the owner sold the land for redevelopment and we had to move out. The cats are now housed in a purpose built cattery. We ensure that any person wishing to adopt any of our animals has the necessary home checks to ensure a safe and loving environment before adoption is agreed. The Charity relies on donations from the public and the income from the shop which is staffed entirely by volunteers - without their help we would not be able to function.

Christmas pictures are flooding in of our gorgeous rescues all ready for Christmas.

Woody was adopted by Joanne this year and is doing really well in his new home. He is such a gentle loving boy and this year he gets to celebrate Christmas with his very own family.

Nova was adopted by Kevin this year and she definitely landed on her paws. She was with us from a very young age so this could be her first Christmas in a home. Kevin has certainly found a little soul mate in Nova.

Alfie was adopted by Ann 2 years ago so this is his second Christmas in a home and what a handsome little boy he is.

Noel was quite the handful when he first came to rescue adopted by Amanda who has gave him the love and care he needed to learn to trust again and just look at him now. Today is Noels birthday so happy birthday Noel πŸŽ‚

Another two of our beautiful cats that where adopted this year. Janice and kermit are still as close as ever and they are loving their Christmas tree. Laura tells me every morning when the family get up Janice has removed all the baubles from the tree and I'm sure kermit would of helped with that too. πŸ’—

From being homeless, living on the streets then into rescue and now Bobby is all ready for his first Christmas in his very own home. We love these pictures and thank you Beth for sending them over to us and keeping us updated. πŸ’–

For a few of our cats it's their first Christmas at rescue for some it's their second or third year and for others rescue is all they have ever known, that's why we make sure they have the best Christmas every year. We have received a few shoe boxes up to now and would like to thank the people who have put them together for our furry friends to open on Christmas day.
If you would like to put together a shoe box of treats and toys for our cats you can drop them off at our shop at 246 County Road.
Thank you.

Yesterday I was sent an email about a cat that has been hanging around the same garden for nearly a year now and getting fed by the owner of the property. Unfortunately the lady is unable to feed the cat now so the neighbour has been going to feed instead. The cat has been paper collared before coming into rescue.
After arriving the cat was scanned and to our surprise the cat is microchipped, unfortunately the chip is unregistered so we have no way of tracking the owner. I have tried to s*x the cat but right now he/she is not in the best of moods so we will leave him/her to settle and try and gain some trust first. Everything will be so strange at the moment but he/she is warm fed and most of all safe and out of this weather. I am hoping the owner gets in touch with proof of ownership so we can reunite them but if not he/she has a home right here with us.
Welcome to the Animal Aid Family ❀

Hi everyone, thankyou to those who have donated towards our Christmas raffle hampers so far.
We have enough booze and toiletries to do two prizes but we still need Christmas goodies too !
If anyone can donate any sweets, cakes, coffee, teabags etc we can go ahead and make our baskets up ready for the raffle .
We really do need the extra income and this is a great way for us to raise those much needed funds.
Once again thanks for the generous donations. We gain 100% profit as we don't buy anything ourselves, it's all completely donated items !
Thanks everyone.

Three new arrivals at the rescue yesterday. Say hello to Sabrina, Humbug and Guinness.
I received a phone call on Saturday from vets for pets in southport asking if we had rescue space for three cats. They explained how the three ended up in a situation of nowhere to go. All three had been squashed into one cat box and left not far from the vet centre. The person that has done this left them in a vulnerable and what could of been a dangerous situation for them if they ended up in the wrong hands. Luckily enough they were handed into the practice and after being scanned by the vets they are microchipped and the vets have tried on numerous occasions to contact the owner but with no response, we will also have to do the same as we will have to change their details into Animal Aids details so the owner will be contacted by the microchip company for permission to do this. They were brought to us last night by two lovely members of staff from vets for pets who gave me some more information on what they do know about them. We really don't understand how anyone could of just left these three gorgeous cats or the circumstances of why they where left in this situation in the first place. Right now they are settling into the rescue and doing good.
Welcome to the Animal Aid family Guinness Sabrina and Humbug ❀

Our gorgeous big boy Bobby left us today to start his new life with his new mum Beth.
Bobby is such an affectionate gentle boy, we loved his head bumps and kisses everyday and all adored him at the rescue. Beth was one of Bobby's feeders while he was living on the streets and now settled into her new home she decided that Bobby should be part of the family too. We are over the moon for our Bobby, we will certainly miss him but wish him the best life with Beth and her family. Well done big man ❀

Does anyone around the queens drive area recognise this beautiful girl. We got a call today from a concerned lady saying she thinks the cat had been hit by a car. We drove round but couldn't see the cat and saw a post on a lost and found page to say someone had took it to the pdsa and she has no microchip. If this little lady is yours contact the pdsa kirkdale.
We hope she is reunited with her owners very soon πŸ™
