🩺Did you know that May is Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month? 🩺

We’re shining the spotlight on our incredible nursing team here at the University Veterinary Practice who work tirelessly all year round to provide the best care for your pets.

Not only do our nurses provide care in consultations, they also work behind the scenes to ensure your pets are getting the care they need.

Whether it’s assisting in surgery, laboratory testing, caring for recovering patients or everything in between, our nurses are there every step of the way.

We want to say a big thank you to all Veterinary Nurses, especially our team. Their knowledge, skills, dedication and care are crucial to the treatment we provide here at the practice.

Here are some action shots of our fantastic team hard at work! 🐾

Does your dog take part in agility? We want to hear from you!

We are inviting people who take part in dog agility with their pooches to tell us about their experiences.

The study is being undertaken by Veterinary Physiotherapy Postgraduate Student Brónagh as part of her master's degree at the University of Liverpool.

Brónagh says:
“I have been involved in dog agility for the last 10 years with my 3 dogs Zeus, Strike and Gunther. During this time, I have developed a keen interest in preventing injuries in agility dogs.
This study is aimed at anyone who trains or competes in dog agility within the U.K. and Ireland. Your dog does not have to have sustained an injury for you to participate as all answers are extremely valuable for this research.”

If you would like to participate (the questionnaire is completely anonymous), please click on the link below or scan the QR code in the image and read through the information sheet before completing the online survey.

Thank you in advance for participating. Your involvement is invaluable in helping us improve our understanding of this important area of canine health.

Due to such high demand and to ensure we have enough available appointments for our registered clients and patients, we are not currently able to take new registrations of exotic species (incl. birds, reptiles, fish, rabbits and small furries). We will post an update once we are able to take new registrations again.

Our colleagues at the The Royal Veterinary College (RVC), University of Bristol and RSPCA are conducting a survey for parrot owners - the link for the survey is in the comments.

Studies like this provide valuable insight for the profession, and help us guide our future teaching and ensure that our students are ready to help you and your pets when they graduate.

We have some limited availability for neutering appointments over the next few weeks at the practice.

All of our neuter prices include:
- a pre-operative check with our team to discuss the procedure and ensure your pet is happy and healthy
- the procedure itself
- pain relief to give at home

Our neuters take place in our dedicated theatre suite, with our vets and nurses caring for your pets so they can be home with you the same afternoon. Microchipping is available for an additional £10, and you can upgrade from a buster collar to a medical pet shirt for just £15

You may remember some previous studies we have posted about, and our lovely colleagues are looking for more dogs to get involved with their research efforts.

What is this study about?
We are recruiting dogs to take part in a study that will help determine how body shape (of different breeds) affect the movement of your dog. With this knowledge, veterinarians can begin to understand how body shape and the way dogs walk and run might be related to specific disease and injury risks in certain breeds.

What does it involve?
Dogs will be asked to perform walking trials in our purpose-built biomechanics lab at the University of Liverpool main campus in Liverpool. We will measure the motion of their joints using skin markers, sensors, cameras and x-ray methods.

Who can take part?
We are looking to recruit from the following breeds that have been diagnosed with a minor-moderate mobility issue (e.g. they can walk & trot but they may show some lameness) that is likely to impact on the way they walk:
- German Shepherds
- Labradors
- Cocker Spaniels
- Springer Spaniels
- Dachshunds
- West Highland White Terriers
-French Bulldogs
- Border Collies
- Beagles
- Deerhounds
- Great Danes
- Parsons Russells
- Yorkshire Terriers

They need to be at least 1 year old but younger than 8 years old, with no signs of health problems that affect their movement. Your dog must currently be going for walks of around 30 minutes a day or more and should be a good healthy weight. They should also be happy to be handled and do some basic tasks: standing still, and walking and trotting in a straight line.

For more information there are some lovely articles about their work available here:
https://news.liverpool.ac.uk/.../university-embarks-on.../
https://theguideliverpool.com/university-of-liverpool.../

We are also looking for some greyhounds to take part in a study looking at corn development in this breed - but the volunteer dogs need to be normal (without corns)
