We have recently removed the womb from a 4 year old bitch who unfortunately contracted Pyometra. Luckily enough, her owner caught it just in time. This infection occurs in pets who are not spayed and is a result of hormonal changes after a heat cycle. Pyometra requires emergency medical attention. ‼️ 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑷𝒚𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒓𝒂? Symptoms of Pyometra usually begin 4-8 weeks after a heat cycle. The symptoms include:* Drinking more than usual * Vomiting* Pus leaking from vulva/vagina* Bloated abdomen (tummy)* Panting and weakness* Poor appetite * Weeing more than usual ‼️ 𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒊𝒔 𝑷𝒚𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒓𝒂 𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅? The preferred treatment of Pyometra is to remove the bitches womb.
