This is my own dog Ghost.
Anyone who knows Ghost personally, knows how chaotic, mental and high energy he is. He is the happiest, bounciest dog and is such a sweetheart to everyone he meets, regardless of if it’s a stranger or not. He has been dog reactive since he was around 6 months old but is now managed safely and able to explore way more now than he ever has before. Why? Ghost is ecollar trained. It has given him the freedom of being off-lead and I have no doubt in my mind that he would never be off-lead if it wasn’t for this amazing tool. It wasn’t a case of just chucking the ecollar on him and stimming him left, right and centre - as some people will try to make you believe. It was weeks of positive experiences, conditioning and training him to understand what the ecollar actually means and putting the work in for our dog to experience a whole new world without a worry. How could you take this away from the dogs and people who use this tool responsibly? Shame on you!!
The Scottish government has announced a proposed ban of ecollars in Scotland and are due to vote THIS THURSDAY. If Scotland vote for a ban, this will only be the start of things to ban which are deemed aversive, this includes but isn’t limited to, slip leads/collars, prong collars, even things as simple as saying no to your dog. This ban on ecollars is absolutely devastating to not only the dogs, but owners too. The ecollar is a tool that gives dogs who are at risk of euthanasia a new lease of life, allows deaf dogs to be able to experience off-lead freedom, stop attacks on livestock when trained correctly and more importantly gives owners a new found confidence in letting their dog off-lead as, in my opinion, it is the most reliable way to recall your dog without the use of a longline for life.
You can help stop this ban by emailing your local MSPs your positive experiences with ecollars alongside the letter template written by ARDO.
It won’t be long before there’s no time left to stop this ban from going through. No matter how little or how much you can help, please do so where you can, I can say with no doubt that it is greatly appreciated to everyone involved.
As always, if you have any questions, want to know more on the ecollar or need the letter template kindly written by ARDO, please feel free to give me a message!
