On we are remembering Aleen Cust the first female veterinary surgeon to be recognised by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in the UK - read her story below.

And we also celebrate all the female vets at Tysul Vets who have followed in her footsteps; Danni, Liz, Lynsey, Sam, Vicky, and Marianne - and of course the team of women that support them.

Aleen Isobel Cust (7 February 1868 – 29 January 1937) was an Anglo-Irish veterinary surgeon. She was born and began her career in Ireland. In 1922 she became the first female veterinary surgeon to be recognised by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.[1][2]

Join Dr Katie Lihou (University of Bristol), Phillipa Page (NADIS) and Matt Colston (ELANCO) for discussions around blowfly control.

A review of the blowfly life cycle along with preventative management strategies and appropriate chemical use will be discussed by Matt from ELANCO.

Phillipa will describe effective treatments of clinically affected sheep to minimise compromised sheep welfare.

Dr Lihou will discuss the costs associated with prevention and treatment of clinical cases of blowfly using cost/benefit analysis modelling.

This will be a useful refresher ahead of the blow fly season to ensure that knowledge is up to date for improved client and customer engagement.

This event will conclude with a Q&A session.

Important information for ALL bird keeps - please read.

From midnight tonight an all-Wales Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) will be introduced.

This follows rising cases in other parts of Great Britain.

The AIPZ requires all bird keepers, irrespective of the size or type of flock, to take immediate action to ensure high standards of hygiene and biosecurity on a daily basis.
