A post Halloween plea from our friends at Pembrokeshire Hogspital

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/NmUMRtVsfvyymXzj/?

🎃 ❌ NO PUMPKIN ‼️
🎃🦔 Please do not leave your halloween pumpkins outside in gardens or fields after use.
🎃At this time of year hogs need to be putting on weight, ready for hibernation, so anything that gives them diarrhoea, if they decide to eat it, mean reducing weight and nutrients, and causing dehydration could be fatal
🎃 Hogs cannot digest fruit and vegetables, as they lack a caecum. So please do not put ANY fruit or veg out for them!
🎃 If you carve pumpkins, use insides to make soups, pie filling etc and put the rest, when finished in your food waste bin ...
🎃 Putting anything out like that, is: dumping, littering and lazy.
🎃 If put out for squirrels or birds, put only a small amount out and ensure it cannot end up on the ground.
🎃There is a lot of misinformation online, so please share

Where are all the Labrador fans?

1 year old Star is looking for a new home

He’s a little bit nervous as he hasn’t had a lot of experience in the big wide world but he’s very affectionate and fantastically handsome

Another of our long stay residents, one that we struggle to understand why he hasn’t found his forever home

Name: Beeny
Age: 5 years
Breed: Staffy Mix

Story:
Beeny came into us from the pound in Neath. He’s quite an energetic chap but is popular with the volunteers and has been to many a fundraiser with Linda and was always well behaved.
Beeny needs a cat and child free home but is living in foster with a Labrador and they are getting in well.

Location: In foster

Story:
Coco and Randy are brother and sister but can be rehomed separately.

Up next in the category of long stay resident

Name: Beau
S*x: Female
Age: 5 years
Breed: Bulldog
Length of stay: 9 months

Story:
When Beau came to us she had been passed from pillar to post and had had far too many homes in her short life.
She was underweight, needed a good bath and surgery on her eye but despite all that she is a loving dog who adores cuddles.
Beau can be dominant so needs an experienced owner and prefers women to men.

Maybe she has a face only a mother could love and that’s why she is still here, it’s hard to know why when she is so sweet.

Needs to be an only dog at home (but loves to play with Beeny although bosses him about) and no cats.

Location: At the rescue

Over the next couple of weeks or so we are going to share details of our long stayers

First up is our longest staying resident

Name: Sikes
Age: 2 years
Breed: Poodle Cross
Length of stay: 18 months

Story:
Sikes arrived here at around 6 months old in a shocking state and needs a very special, quiet home with a garden
He is terrified of the lead so can’t be taken out for walks and won’t willingly accept a humans touch.
He would benefit from living with another dog to reassure him.

Sikes is looking for a foster or permanent home as he finds the big dogs that we have in the kennels very scary

Alpets Poundies

Alpets Poundies was set up by Linda to help with the re-homing of the dogs in the Ceredigion pound. Alpets Poundies is based in Croeslan, Llandysul, and has become the refuge for many abandoned dogs over the years.

We make every effort to save each and every dog that comes into our care and have only ever had to put one dog down due to illness. Hopefully this page will help us to re-home a few more, but at the present we have re-homed over 400 dogs! We hope to keep going for a lot longer and can continue to do so with the help of the wonderful supporters of Alpets Poundies.

All animals (as we have had horses as well and a pheasant) have home checks and a donation is required to help us to continue helping more animals. They will go out neutered (if old enough), vaccinated and micro-chipped.

Anyone needing a dog re-homed is quite welcome to add it on to the page themselves, to re-hoe privately - rather than abandon it. We will re-home anywhere in the country, but please before wasting our home checkers time be sure that you are willing to cover the distance to pick up your new pet.
