‼️ Rawhide danger‼️
Around Christmas time we may buy gifts and treats for our dogs without releasing the dangers some pose.
Rawhide treats are one of these dangers. When chewed, rawhide can quickly become stringy and stretchy like bubblegum. This can lead to choking, digestive problems and internal blockages.
Symptoms of internal blockages:
🐾Vomiting
🐾Diarrhoea or Constipation
🐾Lethargy
🐾Abdominal pain
🐾Weight loss
🐾Lack of appetite
If you are concerned about your dog or would like more advice please call us on 01554 772097 🐾
Vaccinations are incredibly important for keeping your pets safe 🐾
Primary vaccines are given to kittens from as early as 9 weeks. This vaccine is given as 2 injections 3 weeks apart. A booster vaccine is then given annually to stop their immunity decreasing over time.
If your cat misses their annual vaccine they will need to restart the vaccine course.
To book your cat or kitten in for their vaccine please call us on 01554 772097 or visit our website on book online! 🐾
Did you know that turning up the heat makes your home a target for fleas? ⚠
Here’s our top tips on how to keep fleas out of your home:
🐾Use vet approve flea treatments. Prevention is key to stopping fleas before they start.
🐾Vacuuming carpets and furniture regularly will help remove fleas and eggs. Remember to empty the vacuum after each use, ideally outside to stop eggs and fleas from re-entering your home.
🐾Wash bedding regularly.

🎇🎆Fireworks safety tips 🎆🎇
Fireworks night is only 2 weeks away 😱 are you prepared?
🦮Walk your dog earlier in the day, before it gets dark. Keep them on their lead incase fireworks are set off early and make sure their microchip is up to date.
🏠Keep doors, windows and curtains closed. This will reduce some outside noise. Turning on your tv or radio may help to distract your pets.
💊Your pet may benefit from some calming therapeutic medication. We have various calming products available for purchase at different strengths. Please be aware that some products will require a consultation before dispensing.
🛏Provide your pet with a safe place to hide.
🐰🐇If you have outdoor pets, please consider covering their hutch or shed to reduce noise or temporarily moving them inside to an unheated room (temperatures should remain similar to that of the hutch/shed outside)🐇🐰
If your pets require any calming treatments please call us on 01554 772097. Thank you 🎆
Welcome to Haven Vets 🐾
We are excited to welcome you back into our newly refurbished reception and consult area at our Llanelli branch. We look forward to meeting you and your pets very soon🐾
Did you know we offer Laparoscopic Spays for female dogs at our Llanelli branch? 😊
A Laparoscopic Spay involves removing the ovaries via 3 small ports inserted into the abdomen. Using a camera, the veterinarian surgeon is easily able to view clear and magnified images. A cauteriser is then used to remove the ovaries, as you can see from this video.
What are the benefits to Laparoscopic Spay compared with traditional open spay?
🐾less invasive
🐾smaller surgical sites
🐾faster recovery.
If you would like to book your female dog in for a Laparoscopic Spay please call us on 01554 772097
With the lovely weather today, many of us may be tempted to have a BBQ 🔥
BBQs are fun for humans and pets alike, but they do pose some threats to our furry friends. To make sure your pets stay safe, take a look at our top tips in this video!
Ear mites are a very small parasite that affects both cats and dogs. They look like tiny white dots, but can barely be seen with the naked eye.
This ear mite was discovered by one of our vets after taking a ear swab and examining the swab under a microscope 🔬
Ear mites live on the skin of the ear canal and feed off ear wax and skin oils. An adult ear mite can normally live for around two months, but they can multiply quickly. Eggs take just four days to hatch and a further three weeks to develop into an adult mites ready to breed.
Signs your pet may show with ear mites:
🐾shaking their head or scratching their ears excessively,
🐾having red and inflamed ears caused by extra wax and irritation,
🐾producing a black, dry ear discharge which can sometimes let off a bad smell.
If you believe your pet may be suffering with ear mites please call us on 01554 772097 🐾
With the sun making a lovely appearance this weekend, please take care and protect your dogs from heatstroke ☀️🐶
All dogs are at risk of heatstroke but certain breeds are more at risk.
They include;
🐾Dogs with thick or long coats
🐾Dogs with black coats
🐾Brachycephalic breeds
🐾Overweight dogs
🐾Puppies.
Help keep your pets cool today and follow the steps below;
☀️avoid walking your pets during the day, keep to early morning or evening times,
☀️ensure that your dog has plenty of drinking water and shaded areas if out in the garden,
☀️try cooling mats for your pets to lay on (please be careful that your pets do not chew these as they can cause intestinal blockage if ingested).
If you believe your dog is suffering from heatstroke please call us immediately on 01554 772097 🐾
