Pawdicure morning at The Pooch Parlour went really well today. Very pleased with how each dog was during the nail clipping and they all left very happy! πΎπ
Thanks to those that came to the Nail clinic, lovely to meet new people πΆ
At the end of last year my puppy, Hiccup, (also known as Quinntaz Hagstrom) qualified for entry at Crufts.

How cute does this little girl look after her grooming session. πΎπ
I have been working with this bundle of energy since she was a teeny tiny puppy. Life skills are what we have been concentrating on and grooming is part of this. Taking your puppy to the groomers as soon as they are safe to after they are vaccinated, is really important. This gets a healthy relationship with the puppy and groomer and setting the dog up for life, hence making visits a more positive experience π©ππΆπΎβ€οΈ
This fluffy gorgeous girl had her first big girl groom today, she took it in her stride as sheβs visited for her puppy package sessions. Keep as fluffy as possible was the request from her humans π
Apologies for anyone trying to get in contact with me. I have no phone as it has decided to have a melt down! I am contactable on FB messenger for now. And please bear with me if I have said I will contact you, your details are in my phone! Fingers crossed!
Happy New Year to you all! πΎ

π£π Muzzle training with our experts
If you own an American Bully XL type dog, you can start preparing them for the restrictions by making sure they are trained to happily wear a muzzle.
Weβre offering free online sessions to help you do this and will cover:
π information about the most suitable types of muzzle
π how to ensure a good fit
π how to teach your dog to enjoy wearing their muzzle.
Book now π https://bit.ly/3RsuUCw
Our expert trainers have muzzle trained thousands of dogs in our care and can answer any other questions you might have about how to prepare for any upcoming changes affecting you and your dog.
These sessions are designed to support owners of American Bully XLs in light of the recent news, but all dog owners are welcome to attend. Itβs useful for all dogs to be able to wear a muzzle comfortably β for those who are anxious at vet visits, for dogs who like to eat undesirable things on a walk or to keep other dogs and people safe if dogs are worried.
It's not all about the miles we cover. Mental stimulation is invaluable!
Here's Professor Hiccup demonstrating sniffing along a wall....a very long wall, plus another wall. He was exhausted afterwards πΎπ
Puppy demo for cooperative care. Life skills.
We were busy this Sunday with a stall at Dog Fest, spreading the word about pawsitivity (see what I did there!) and reward based training. Me and my sidekick poopie (yes, another pun there!) Professor Hiccup, spoke to visitors enjoying the day about dog behaviour and the importance of listening to our dogs and how fascinating they truly are! It was so lovely meeting you all and also catching up with other amazing stall holders too, whilst we helped raise funds for . πΎπ
This little boy hated going to the groomers. He would panic and bite! He lost all the ability to give any warning signals. Now, after several months of patience, hard work, giving the dog choice to say yes or no, reassurance, building that all important trust and owner compliance and dedication, he is certainly much improved! Finding the right groomer who will be patient and know when to say No I won't do any more, is worth it's wait in gold! Between us, we are setting this young dog up for important life long skills. It's not just for use at the groomers, it's also so that his owners can look at parts of his body if they are concerned about anything, it is also then vital that the vets can give him a through examination in order to give him a health check. If a dog cannot be touched, the vets cannot get a good diagnosis if ever they are ill. Life skills!
This beautiful boy is such a happy playful dog, he just needed to be listened to as his emotional state was not good at the groomers. He still needs working with but he is improving each time.
It's great to work with you The Pooch ParlourπΎπΎ
So pleased with the progress this lovely boy is making. 2 visits ago it would have been fair to say he hated visiting the groomer π³ still a way to go but progress is being made π nice to work with Paws and Palms Therapy

Fabulous post here!
You wouldn't walk up to someone you've never met before & start touching them would you?
So please don't do it to dogs you've never met before either.
At the very least it's an uninvited invasion of personal space, but many dogs, especially Romanian & foreign rescue dogs are not comfortable with people they don't know and don't want to be touched.
Even if they wander over to sniff you, it still doesn't necessarily mean they want you to touch them, sniffing is how they gather information about you, much like us having a conversation. I've seen many a dog approach for a sniff and then dart out of the way when a hand comes towards them.
Even the often believed correct approach of holding out the back of your hand can appear threatening to a nervous or fearful dog.
Of course some dogs are super sociable and do want a ruffle and a fuss, but unless a dog is practically mobbing you with a full body wag, just wait and see how that dog feels about you before even thinking about interacting with them, and never walk up and stroke a dog that is laying down quietly minding their own business.
This is one of my favourite things I love to do whilst working in the vet practice. Social visits! πΎ I just love seeing dogs develop from being scared of coming through that door, to in time, happy bouncing dogs. It takes a lot of patience, time & understanding to change their fearful emotion. Creating a sniffing area can also help this happen. ππ½
This little boy was not happy at his last check up with the nurse. Social visits have helped him retrain his brain. Today he had a small "Smell exploratory school" to explore. He was a very happy waggy tailed chappy!

Muzzle wearing is a great tool to have in your kit box! Some people frown at it and say "my dog is friendly, they don't need to learn to wear a muzzle". Muzzles are not just for dogs that bite. They can be put on if your dog is scared at the vets or to stop your dog eating things they shouldn't outside, god forbid they have a accident and need urgent or life threatening first aid, scared dogs can bite! Thats just to name a couple of good reasons.
I'm happy to help you get your dog wearing a muzzle, just get in touch!
Here's my own dog who was born deaf, whom I was training to wear a muzzle a few years ago.
Love her Stink eye at one point ππ Love behaviour πΎβ€
Chemicals in our brain play a huge part in our daily lives. Now go be happy!
This is a great enrichment idea!
I love this type of CPD. My old boss was a veterinary acupuncturist and I was able to assist for many years in consult whilst he gave the acupuncture treatment. I found it fasinating! Perhaps thats where my love for alternative medicine started so many years ago? Pets don't do placebo. They can't, can they? There is no expection that a treatment given to them will be of benefit. It is us humans that can do placebo, right? This is why we as humans, who can often over think, also have to have faith in the treatments we choose to get, otherwise, we may actually miss any signs of improvement that is actually happening.
Fascinating!
Has your dog been diagnosed by your vet that they have epilepsy? Pretty scary and daunting, isn't it! Perhaps you might like to watch this free seminar all about the condition canine epilepsy. Prof Holger Volk, renowned for his specialism in small animal neurology, gives an overview of what we know about canine epilepsy to date, including influencing factors.

I couldn't of done this with Blue Dog when we first got her, not without losing my hand! πͺ Those dew claws (thumbs) just needed a little clip today, to take the sharp edge off them. The rest are Pawfect! I just clipped a teeney tiny bit from one of the other nails to keep her normalised to the sensation. Patience and keeping it kind is a must for extinction of being scared of nail clipping or paws touching. She has no restraint, she has every choice to remove herself. She is not cornered. The lip licking at first is because she just had some treats for seeing the clippers. She is pulling her ears back on the first dew claw, this is kinda like pulling your face, grin and bear it, bless her. No reaction afterwards just happy to get a treat. β€πΎ πΎIf you have a dog that reacts badly to going anywhere near their paws, I can help with this. Just raise your paw πΎ and get in contact πΎ Please feel free to share this post π
Love my little trickster β€πΎ I capture a lot of our tricks when Blue Dog just does a random behaviour. I 'caught' this action. With her being deaf I quickly mark it with hand flash, which is my clicker for her. From that, I can then put it on cue. This cue is probably not the best as it is very similar to hold and pull (taking the washing out of the machine) but I can alter or tweak the cue as this was only about 3 minutes into the training and its not solid yet. Have you got a favourite trick or behaviour that your dog does? πΎ
