Paul popped out to check and feed everyone last night and realised that Kai was refusing to use the cosy snuggly bed. So he switched it out for something flatter for him as we wondered if he was finding it hard to walk on. Paul laid out a heat mat and popped some cosy vet bedding down and this is what happened next. I won't spoil it just watch to the end you won't be disappointed. If ever a wee cat said thank you it was this. ππββ¬
Needless to say when Paul checked on the cats last thing Kai was snuggled up where he left him

Update on the wee matted cat from yesterday we have chosen to call Kai. π
Vets have given him a thorough check over and their findings are he is an entire, elderly male cat. We couldn't see this due to the matts yesterday. He is extremely malnourished weighing only 2.5kg. He has severe gum disease and very bad teeth but amazingly apart from this his heart and chest sounds are all clear but he would not have survived much longer out there without help so we are incredibly grateful to the person who contacted us about him.
Today they put Kai under sedation so that they could remove his matts which took them over an hour of constant attention. He had skin tears from the weight of the matts on his skin which have been superglued over to allow them to heal. His matts weighed 1kg so nearly half his current body weight.
He fought the sedation constantly most likely due to the pain of having the matts removed. In his extremely weakened state the vet felt it was unfair to continue or put him through more today so he has been health checked, shaved and given long acting injectable strong antibiotics and pain relief.
We need to get Kai stronger and his weight up over the next couple of weeks so that he can get strong enough to undergo the dental work needed to reduce his pain and allow him to eat properly.
Kai is incredibly weak but I'm sure you will see in this video how thankful he is to finally be safe. He has a warm cosy bed and heat pad and small, regular, soft meals.
A huge thank you to everyone who has helped us with words of encouragement, shares and donations for this wee soul. He has a long way to go but the fact he's still alive is testament to his spirit.

We would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who donated towards Buddy's vet care. He's doing well post surgery and just look at him now his pain is gone from the infection. The grumpy sad boy is enjoying his cuddles and tummy rubs πππππππ
A massive thank you from Buddy for your kindness and generosity. You are our angels and without your help we couldn't save the lives we do. ππ
The beautiful *LILY* is still looking for a forever home. Can you help us to share the word and help her? πββ¬
Following rehabilitation at Sunny Harbour, where we have worked on building trust with Lily, she is now seeking a very special, indoor home where she can be fussed and loved on her own terms.
Lily is seeking:
πΎ An indoor only home, where she is the only pet.
πΎ A quiet, adult only home, with no children.
πΎ A mature, patient and experienced cat owner who can appreciate her recovery is a work in progress.
πΎ Please note, Lily is terrified of men - unfortunately we do not know why this is.
If you think you could provide Lily with a forever home, please apply here: https://sunnyharbour.org.uk/profile/lily/
We're still in the throws of winter, which means illness and injury can be more prevalent. Can you spot the signs of illness in a cat?
Cats can be very adept at hiding signs of illness to ensure they don't appear "weak". With any change in behaviour, we always recommend a check up with the vet. Consult our handy guide on our website to help you spot potential warning signs such as:
β οΈ Drinking excessively
β οΈ Being depressed or withdrawn
β οΈ Increased or stopping grooming
Consult the full guide and list here: http://sunnyharbour.org.uk/.../spotting-signs-illness-cats/

Many of us are heading back to work over the next few days after a well-rested festive period. If you haven't driven for a while, or if the weather is chilly, make sure to give a quick bang on the car hood, visually check under your vehicle and on the top of your tyres - you could save a life.
Cats, especially strays, are seeking warmer places to snuggle up against the elements - and are drawn to hide in car and van engines. Over the winter, we've had reports of loved pets passing away due to this. Please always check - it only takes seconds!
Wishing you and yours a very Happy New Year and a happy, healthy 2023.

Thank you all for your ongoing kindness and support we truly could not keep going without you. Here's to a better 2023 ahead for everyone πββ¬π.

The TNR colony project will stretch into 2023, with approx πΎ 80 cats πΎ identified as needing care and neutering. Can you help spare a pound or two to help us reach Marc's brothers and sisters and provide them with the urgent vet care needed to keep them happy and healthy?

A very Merry Christmas from all of us here at Sunny Harbour. πΎπβ¨
Things are moving fast at the colony, with a revised estimate of at least 80 cats needing trapped and neutered! πΎ Our initial expectation based on what we could see at the first site visit was a total of approximately 40 cats this figure has now at least doubled.
To date we have Trapped, Neutered and Returned 31 adults and adolescents to the industrial site, hand reared 9 kittens and successfully tamed and adopted to a wonderful home 1 kitten and we are in the process of working with another.
Costs to get this colony under control have now more than doubled our initial expectation given the numbers still to be processed at the site and we desperately need your help to enable us to continue into next year creating healthier, happier lives for these cats by removing hormone driven behaviours of mating and aggression and stopping numbers at the site from spiraling further.
We know this is a difficult time of year but we would be extremely grateful if you can support our appeal by donating via our website (link below) or taking part in our Xmas Fundraiser Auction this weekend advertised on Facebook.
Thank you SO much to everyone who has supported this project through words of encouragement, shares and donations- thank you SO much ππββ¬π

** TNR UPDATE - MEET LUCKY **
Progress continues on the Trap, Neuter and Release site - and we'd like to introduce you to a little someone we strongly suspect is Marc's little sister - meet Lucky!
Four weeks ago, Lucky was extremely agitated in our care, but over the past few weeks, she's transformed into an affectionate little girl. The majority of cats in the colony are always re-released once neutered or spayed, usually within 48-72 hours, but for kittens like Lucky who need a little more help and nutrition, they stay in our care until they are stronger.
If you'd like to support our project, please consider donating a pound or two via our fundraiser: https://cafdonate.cafonline.org/21706#!/DonationDetails
