‼️ LOOKING FOR A NEW HOME ‼️

Blue is a 16 month old Staffy Lurcher cross, due to be neutered prior to rehoming.
Fantastic with children and adults, Blue is also great with cats and other dogs, he is a typical puppy/junior, full of life, vim and vigour and this energy will require harnessing through obedience training. Blue is an exceedingly affectionate boy, he is quick to learn and enjoys one to one walks as well as off lead runs with other companion dogs, he would benefit from a fun structured training activity such as Agility or Man Hunting.
This is a sad rehome due to the owner’s sudden and unforeseen change in circumstance. If you can offer Blue a fun, active and caring home, where he can be safe and secure please call Mhairi on: 07580061670.

Everyone who is thinking of getting dogs should read this because you need to understand this reality:

***I am a 21st century dog.***
-I'm a Malinois.
Overskilled among dogs, I excel in all disciplines and I'm always ready to work: I NEED to work.
But nowadays I get asked to chill on the couch all day everyday.

-I am an Akita Inu.
My ancestors were selected for fighting bears.
Today I get asked to be tolerant and I get scolded for my reactivity when another approaches me.

-I am a Beagle.
When I chase my prey, I raise my voice so the hunters could follow.
Today they put an electric collar on me to shut up, and you make me come back to you - no running - with a snap of your fingers.

-I am a Yorkshire Terrier.
I was a terrifying rat hunter in English mines.
Today they think I can't use my legs and they always hold me in their arms.

-I'm a Labrador Retriever.
My vision of happiness is a dive into a pond to bring back the duck he shot to my master.
Today you forget I'm a walking, running, swimming dog; as a result I'm fat, made to stay indoors, and to babysit.

-I am a Jack Russell.
I can take on a fox, a mean badger, and a rat bigger than me in his den.
Today I get scolded for my character and high energy, and forced to turn into a quiet living room dog.

-I am a Siberian Husky.
Experienced the great, wide open spaces of Northern Europe, where I could drag sleds for long distances at impressive speeds.
Today I only have the walls of the house or small garden as a horizon, and the holes I dig in the ground just to release energy and frustration, trying to stay sane.

-I am a border collie
I was made to work hours a day in partnershipwith my master, and I am an unmistakable artist of working with the herd.
Today they are mad at me because, for lack of sheep, I try to check bikes, cars, children in the house and everything in motion.

I am ...
I am a 21st century dog.
I'm pretty, I'm alert, I'm obedient, I stay in a bag...but I'm also an individual who, from centuries of training, needs to express my instincts, and I am *not* suited for the sedentary life you'd want me to lead.
Spending eight hours a day alone in the house or in the garden - with no work and no one to play or run with, seeing you for a short time in the evening when you get home, and only getting a small toilet walk will make me deeply unhappy.
I'll express it by barking all day, turning your yard into a minefield, doing my needs indoors, being unmanageable the rare times I'll find myself outside, and sometimes spending my days sunk, sad, lonely, and depressed, on my pillow.
You may think that I should be happy to be able to enjoy all this comfort while you go to work, but actually I’ll be exhausted and frustrated, because this is absolutely NOT what I'm meant to do, or what I need to be doing.
If you love me, if you've always dreamed of me, if my beautiful blue eyes or my athletic look make you want me, but you can't give me a real dog's life, a life that's really worth living according to my breed, and if you can't offer me the job that my genes are asking, DO NOT buy or adopt me!
If you like the way I look but aren't willing to accept my temperament, gifts, and traits derived from long genetic selection, and you think you can change them with only your good will, then DO NOT BUY OR ADOPT ME.
I’m a dog from the 21st century, yes, but deep inside me, the one who fought, the one who hunted, the one who pulled sleds, the one who guided and protected a herd still lives within.
So think **very** carefully before you choose your dog. And think about getting two, rather than one, so I won't be so very lonely waiting for you all day. Eight or ten hours is just a workday to you, but it's an eternity for me to be alone.

Seeking a Safe Home for Gentle Bear.

At 8/9 years old, Bear, a German Shepherd x Griffin type (complete guess) came to AK in November as unwanted.

At 60kgs he was grossly overweight, covered in bruises underneath from having to ‘flop’ onto hard floor surfaces, and furthermore with a mouth full of bad teeth, it was clear that Bear’s health was in complete crisis.

Under the veterinary direction of Dalriada Vets and coupled with the expert care of the AK team, Bear is now a new boy, weighing a svelte 40kgs, having had 17 rotten teeth removed, joint medication prescribed, fully vaccinated, worm/tick treatment given and microchipped, Bear is looking for a special owner and home, that will commit to ensuring his continued weigh loss and abide by his new health routine.

Bear has flourished at AK turning from a thoroughly depressed, inactive, pitiful soul to a motivated, happy and engaging dog who has found his long lost ‘Mojo’! We’d really like Bear to be the sole household pet, in any new home so that he is given the correct attention that he deserves and has missed out on for so long. Gentle Bear will reward his new owner immeasurably with affection, companionship and good manners both on and off lead.
If you can offer Gentle Bear a safe and secure home where continued attention to his physical and emotional welfare is guaranteed, please contact Louise or Emma by phoning Achnabreac Kennels on 01546 606695 or by Messenger.

Polly, a four year old tabby female is desperately seeking a new home through no fault of her own. This much loved pet is being reluctantly rehomed as a member of her family has developed an intolerable allergic reaction to her fur.
Polly is currently an indoor cat as she lives near a very busy road, however, she is desperate to be an outdoor cat so requires a home where she can access the outside world safely.
Vaccinated, microchipped and litter trained, Polly will make a fantastic companion pet and would be happy living with another cat, but she neither likes nor will tolerate dogs and she’d really prefer to live in a home with adults or older children, she’s frightened of small children. Very pretty, very cute and very cuddly, Polly needs a safe and secure home where she can live a cat’s life and yet also have the human interaction she craves. If you can offer Polly a loving and caring home please call Cheryl on 07426010042

🌟🤩 Duke has been re-homed! 🤩🌟

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who commented, shared and got this post to be seen by nearly 17,000 people! A amazing feat, well done! Duke now has a safe, secure and wonderful life ahead. Thank you🙏

🐾 DUKE NEEDS A HOME 🐾
A neutered Labrador Pointer X, Duke is 16 months old, vaccinated, microchipped and house trained. Through no fault of his own, Duke has found himself needing a new home.
A fairly large boy, Duke is delightful with humans both small and big, he loves life and will require pro active owners/family who are aware of his exercise needs and be prepared to meet them.
Duke is currently in foster care and sharing his foster home happily with a resident cat and dog, however, he does get a little anxious when left alone and very anxious being asked to stay in a crate.
To ensure that Duke is placed in a safe and secure home, we ask that anyone interested gives particular thought to his need for; exercise and space to burn off his energy, to his anxiety with being left alone and can fully committed to building his confidence and trust through consistent training and kind discipline.
If you can offer Duke a new caring home please call his foster mum Kathleen, on 07787 324792.

Millie, a three year old Heinz57, collie look-a-like, is looking for a new home entirely due to a change in her owner’s circumstances. The decision to re-home Millie has not been taken lightly and is done with reluctance and great sadness, but is being carried through entirely for Millie’s sake.

A real sweetheart of a dog, Millie, is absolutely delightful around and with children and adults, is lovely and loving with her housemate cat, however, Millie can be a bit particular about which dogs she is prepared to be associated with. That said, Millie would benefit from socialisation within a controlled environment, and perhaps some obedience training to combat and conquer her fears around other dogs.

Brimming full of fun and energy Millie would be best suited to an outdoors family or active owners who can give her the exercise and mental stimulation she craves and agility or scent trailing may be activities that could also be explored.

House trained, neutered, vaccinated and microchipped Millie needs to find a new home with some urgency, if you can offer this girl a safe and secure home with boundaries and rules followed through with kind discipline and positive reinforcement call Jane on 01546605329

Resuming our spotlight on AK staff, today we feature Caitlin.
Caitlin joined us in the spring of 2021 and as her first ‘proper’ job, she has immersed herself in all aspects of kennel/cattery care and has now also assists in the grooming room when time allows. Always willing to help and always with a smile, Caitlin has earned her popularity with her fellow team members and customers. At her happiest when in the company of four paws and a tail, Caitlin’s clear enthusiasm for both dogs and cats is notable through her continued thirst for knowledge and her self-learning, if there is a remarkable or unusual fact about a certain breed – Caitlin will know.

Prior to moving to Argyll, Caroline was a lecturer working with young people with additional needs, specialising in supporting profound and multiple learning disabilities, and she still continues to work in her chosen field part time, but when available, she can be found at AK as part of our dedicated team.
Joining us in the spring of 2021 Caroline was thrown in at the deep end as we came through the pandemic, she turned her hand to every aspect of AK business from walking, feeding and looking after the animals to daily admin, to helping in the grooming room, to kennel and grounds maintenance. Always with a happy and positive demeanour Caroline is a firm favourite with staff, animals and customers alike.

As part of of our Spotlight on AK staff, tonight we feature Emma.

Emma joined us here at Achnabreac Kennels in the autumn of 2021. A firm and committed dog lover, (having grown up with German pointers) and with a career in nursing behind her, Emma’s caring and organisational skills were evident from the outset. Any ‘under the weather animal’ benefits from her experience and knowledge and receives her unstinting attention until fully recovered.
Seen working across all departments Emma is, however, now mostly rooted in the Kennel office dealing with customer queries, bookings, appointments and all things admin, but she never misses an opportunity to meet and greet arriving boarders, walk the day-care dogs or spend time in the ‘moggery’ with the cats.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be spotlighting Achnabreac Kennels’ Staff to give our customers a brief insight of who we are, and tonight it's the turn of Evelyn.

Evelyn joined the AK team in September 2022, she comes with a working background of pharmacy dispensing and customer service.
At AK Evelyn can be seen beavering away around the kennels and catteries, feeding and walking dogs, taking care of the cats or at the office welcoming and answering customer queries.
Her knowledge, experience and love of the giant and large dog breeds has been a fantastic asset to the AK team. Evelyn and her husband have owned numerous dogs over the years including several Newfoundlands, German Shepherds and a St Bernard, but now they have taken on a “smaller” challenge in the shape of Cockerpoo Belle, who can also be spotted at AK on occasions.

🐾UPDATE 🐾
🐶❤️Claudia has a new home!❤️🐶
Claudia has been re homed. A massive THANK YOU to absolutely everyone who contacted us regarding Claudia, the wee Frenchie, we have been utterly overwhelmed (literally) with kind and generous offers to re home her. We wish we could have cloned Claudia so as not to disappoint anyone, but sadly we can’t! We have tried to speak to as many of those who offered a home as possible and we apologise to those that we haven’t contacted directly, but we simply couldn’t and can’t keep up with the volume of enquiries.
🙏Thank you, thank you to you ALL - what a wonderful community of true dog lovers we have in Argyll 🙏

Claudia, a very small four year old French Bulldog bitch has found her way to Achnabreac Kennels for re-homing.
Fully vaccinated, microchipped and house trained, Claudia is a sweet and sensitive wee soul who would just love to be the center of someone’s life. A fireside, a lap to curl up on and a decent walk daily are the top items on Claudia’s wish list.
Claudia has been homed previously with another dog and she does get on with other dogs if she has to, but we think she really wants to be an only pet and not have to compete for attention.
If you can offer Claudia a safe and secure home, please contact Louise either via messenger or by calling Achnabreac Kennels 01546 606 695
As always, it is our policy to re-home on a best home offered basis rather than first come first served.

🥳 Fabulous news! Luna has a new home and a new family! She is settling well and enjoying her new life by the sea, beach walks and paddling, perhaps not what is expected of a mountain gaurdian breed……but she is L❤️ving it! 🐕‍🦺💕🐾

Lovely Luna, the Caucasian Shepherd needs a new home!

Unfortunate changes in Luna’s current owner’s’ circumstances, has forced the reluctant surrender of much loved Luna for rehoming.
10 months old, pedigreed, house trained and fully vaccinated, Luna requires an experienced owner/s offering a home with space fit for a giant breed and also with time to spend with her.

Basically, calm and steady, Luna, is a happy, fun loving, big girl who still displays puppy behaviour and needs physical exercise befitting of a mountain guardian breed. She would benefit from obedience training (using positive reinforcement methods) and other types of training for fun could be considered too such as tracking and scenting to give her purpose and stimulation.

Good with people and with other dogs, (untested with cats) Luna requires a home with understanding of her breed characteristics and where boundaries and rules are kindly implemented. It is solely due to her size that we are looking for a home with no young children and furthermore, although not a stipulation we would prefer Luna to be the only household pet.

A Caucasian Shepherd bitch can grow to 70cm at the shoulder and reach 60kgs in weight. Consideration must be given to this dog’s fully grown size when offering a home.

If you think you have the time, patience and space for this larger-than-life character and can offer her a safe and secure home, or simply want more information please send private message via Messenger or call Louise at Achnabreac Kennels 01546 606 695.

As always, rehoming Luna will be based on the best home offered, not first come first served.
