Another - The things people do!
Cath a fellow greyhound owner from Kirkcudbright, dropped into Kirkgunzeon this morning and dropped off these unique greyhound themed Christmas Wreaths which will be on sale at our Show on Sunday. There are only 4 so it will be first come, first served. Aren't they gorgeous. It took Cath a day to make each wreath and we thank her for supporting DCGR and in turn, supporting our homeless hounds.

The things people do!
Yesterday we got a lovely email from Jennifer Borthwick who owns "The Main Bath House" up Kilmarnock way. On 10th December, she is donating 100% (yes 100%) of her days takings to DCGR in memory of a Pomeranian she fostered and whose birthday is on at that date. The Pomeranian stayed with Jennifer and her own greyhound for a number of months before being adopted. Yes we know that picture is not a Pomeranian - it's a short legged hairy greyhound!!
Jennifer from everyone at DCGR, a big thanks for thinking of us.

A massive thank you to everyone who is supporting our forthcoming Fun Greyhound Show and Craft Fair this coming Sunday. You know who you all are. From taking a table at the Craft Fair to donating Home Baking for the Cafeteria and from volunteering to help on the day to bringing your greys along to compete in the Fun Classes, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your enthusiasm and generosity helps us to continue our work in finding homes for these magnificent animals. Three cheers to you all.

Only 4 days to go and the quality of our donations get even better!

Before we show some of the goods on offer, let's finish the information on the tables we have at the Craft Fair. We have hand burned wood gifts, resin pieces, natural dog treats, crocheted clothing and gifts, jewellery and much, much more

LOTS to browse and purchase and with Christmas coming up (already!!) might be the right time to "put something away" at a really good price.

To illustrate the quality of what we have been given and which will be available on Margaret and Julia's DCGR table are a Steiff and Swarovski Minnie Mouse Keyring (new, boxed and with labels attached), a "One Direction" boxed Perfume, Valentino Eau de Toilette and a Michael Bublè Gift Set.

Have a look on the Internet to see what they are selling for and be amazed at our price on the day. These are just a small example of the generosity of our supporters and what will be on display on Sunday

Just a reminder of the Classes available for your lovely Greys at the Fun Greyhound Show on Sunday at Lockerbie Town Hall. Class entries remain at £1.00 per dog per Class - the same as it was some 20 years ago when we first organised the event.

Continuing the "table" theme from previous posts, upstairs in the main hall will be the 2 main fundraising tables for the Charity with Matt from Damhead Boarding Kennels having a wide selection of Greyhound accessories and Greyhound themed gifts and Margaret and Julia having unique "crafty items" and quality donated goods as well as their infamous "dog beds" with Julia's cushions and Christmas Stockings. No room left in Graham and Margaret's house so the bath is being used for storage of the beds. It's OK, they prefer showers!

Another fantastic greyhound walk and get together, this time to Silloth! 24 greyhounds, a whippet and an Irish wolf hound and their hoomans made it. A lovely walk and chat, some excellent dog couture on display, and we managed to raise £103.63! Things got a bit stretched out but I think everyone who made a donation got a tshirt, but if not, comment below and I'll bring you one either to the show next Sunday or the next walk. Boo had a lovely time, and is now having a well earned rest, dreaming of his forever home 🐾💤

Add pictures of your tired out doggies in the comments!

Another 3 fantastic tables will be at our Fun Greyhound Show and Craft Fair this coming Sunday in Lockerbie Town Hall.

Firstly we have Clare owner of Angelfire Crafts who is a self proclaimed "greyhound lover". Clare is the organiser of Dalbeattie Makers Market who welcomed DCGR into the "crafters fold" a few years ago and has been extremely supportive. Clare will be selling a wide range of stained glass coasters and Christmas decorations with specially Christmas baubles entitled "Christmas is better with a greyhound" as well as "personalised" baubles. £2.00 from these baubles will be donated to DCGR.(See picture)

On adjoing tables will be another supporter of DCGR from the Dalbeattie Market -Lizzie, who will be selling jewellery and resin articles.

Lastly is Anne Godfrey who makes and sells dog collars, coats and accessories specialising in "sighthounds". A fellow greyhound owner, she has kindly donated a raffle prize for the event as well as sponsoring a class at the Show.

More info will follow in future posts.

Lots happening next weekend and beyond!
On Saturday 2nd November (10 till 2), we will have our usual table at the Dalbeattie Makers Market in Dalbeattie Parish Church and again, our sales table will be completely different from last months offering loads of unusual gifts and quality goods.

Sunday 3rd November (11 till 3) is our Fun Greyhound Show at Lockerbie Town Hall with a Cafeteria and Craft Fair downstairs. See previous and future posts.

Commencing Monday 4th November for a week, DCGR have hired the sales room of Our Wee Pop Up Shop in the Courtyard, Annan to raise funds for our Homeless Hounds. Subtle difference is that it is not a "Pop Up Charity Shop" but a Pop Up Shop to raise funds for a Charity (DCGR). There will be no bric a brac as such as everything will be hand crafted or donated quality goods or hand knitted and pretty unique. Pictures show some of the items on sale. If you stay locally to the Annan area and would like to assist Margaret Hill in the shop for an hour or 2 or have some good quality donations, please contact us.

DCGR are pleased to announce that once more, Keith Richardson (Photography) will be attending our Show on 3rd November in Lockerbie Town Hall.
Keith has been taking some wonderful pictures since we re-started the Show after Covid (see attached) but this year will be bringing a "backdrop" and utilising the stage to take photographs of the winners as well as individual photographs as required.
Please speak to Keith personally at the Show.
Great picture of you Emma.

We are well on the way to having another excellent Fun Greyhound Show in Lockerbie Town Hall on Sunday 3rd November and your committee and active volunteers are certainly well on the road to achieving this.
Our general supporters can also get involved to make this one the best ever by firstly, coming along. Whether you stay for an hour or more, have a greyhound or not, it doesn't matter as we will be delighted to see you. Why not bring family/friends! The Craft Fair offers plenty of browsing/buying opportunities.
Secondly, donations of Home Baking for the Cafeteria will be most welcome and as regulars will know, all profits head to our bank account to help us care for our Homeless Hounds.
Lastly, if you work for an organisation that would like to donate a raffle prize or indeed you would like to donate one yourself, please let us know what you have so we can pre-advertise the gift and who was kind enough to donate.
We already have some marvellous prizes including 2 x vouchers from the Station House Cookery School in Kirkcudbright - thanks Nick.
Tomorrow's post will start informing you about our wonderful crafters/ stallholders who are coming along.

The first of now a daily post on the lead up to the Fun Greyhound Show and Craft Fair on 3rd November in Lockerbie Town Hall.
The DCGR fundraising table will be upstairs in the Main Hall and will be staffed by Matt Thomson from Damhead with all things "doggie" alongside Margaret Hill and Julia Smith with all things specially made and Christmassy for the event as well as new or nearly new donations ideal for Christmas presents.
At the weekend, Margaret Hill did the "grand tour" to uplift donations first to Beattock to see Howard to pick up donations of his excellent greyhound paintings, then to Houston (not in Texas) to pick up Sandra and Nan's knitted Christmas niknaks containing all sorts of confectionary (donation of over £400 worth) and finishing in Renfrew and Paisley to see Liz Stewart to uplift various donations which included 2 really excellent greyhound statuettes.
All these items will be available at the Dalbeattie Market, Fun Greyhound Show then at Our Wee Pop Up Shop in Annan. Busy times ahead.
It's really nice to have such generous supporters and we thank them most sincerely for their contributions.

Really good AGM last night at Lockerbie Town Hall and a good attendance as well. The business part went smoothly and we are pleased to report that DCGR is in an excellent
financial situation and as at yesterday's date, have homed 2,037 greyhounds!!
Another piece of positive news is that thanks to a suggestion by member Helen Michael, a sub group is being formed to streamline our procedures with a view to attracting enthusiastic supporters/members to assist with Homing and Social Media platforms.
Following the meeting, there was a brief interval for refreshments (thanks to everyone who provided cake!!) then Callum Cameron from the Ark Vets in Lockerbie gave an extremely interesting and informative talk on what his responsibilities are within the Group. His visual aids were a toy tractor, half a dozen eggs and 250g of minced beef. You had to be there to understand! Callum was presented with a small gift as a token of our thanks.
Big thanks to everyone who attended and who took part in the Q&A afterwards.
Only "sleepers" during the talk were the greys!
