Ahhhh a HUGE well done to my Saturday morning puppers who became Nursery graduates today! 🎓

We’ve got some real little characters in the class and I can’t wait to continue the amazing progress we’ve seen over the past couple of months. Onwards to Primary! 😀

• WHISTLE WORKSHOP PART TWO! 🚨

🗓️ WEDNESDAY, 28th AUGUST 6-8pm.
💰 £20 PER DOG
📍 Private field in Mundham, South Norfolk. Near Loddon.
🐶 Suitable for all dogs who have completed the Team Dog Whistle Workshop.

• ALSO- A REPEAT OF THE WHISTLE WORKSHOP PART ONE, for those who missed out on a space last month. Would then be ready to do part two on the 28th if you’d like to!

🗓️ WEDNESDAY, 21st AUGUST 6-8pm.
💰 £30 PER DOG- includes whistle, handout and refreshments.
📍 Private field in Mundham, South Norfolk. Near Loddon.
🐶 Suitable for all ages, puppies and adults, but may not be suitable for highly reactive dogs. Would be absolutely fine for those who need a bit of space as long lines will be used!

MEET SOL! ☀️

Named after that beautiful thing we’re getting a lot of at the moment, Sol is a Spanish setter who was used for hunting before being discarded. His lovely human brought him to me at HQ a few weeks ago to work on some basic training as she’s recently adopted him.

Alas, with understandable struggles with hyper fixating on birds- it was like trying to teach a child their times tables in Disneyland. 😅

So, at the weekend- we started at home in the garden. Here, very low level distractions present meant learning could take place effectively. Like a lot of imported rescues, he didn’t understand the concept of training or the lure- or indeed ‘sit’, or how to interact with toys. We are almost always starting from scratch. 🫡

By the end of Saturday’s session, we had
- following a lure reliably
- sit
- close
- emergency ‘let’s go’ u-turn (he has some struggles with other dogs in his immediate space)
- chasing a rabbit ball like a puppy 🫶🏼

Excited to see this boy’s progress over the coming weeks! 🙌🏼

LAST TWO FRIDAY EVENING TEAM WALKS OF THE SUMMER! 😩 ☀️

Want to meet up with a group and train in the practical environment? Want to work on your dog settling? Your dog is well behaved at class but you’d like to work them around different dogs? Want to find some new walks to add to your repertoire? Wanna have an ice cream or a pint and call it dog training?? 🫡

Suitable for dogs that need a bit of space, but may not be suitable for reactive dogs. If unsure, please pop me a message to see if your dog is suitable. If you’ve done some behavioural sessions with me to work on reactivity, please DO book on. We don’t grow in our comfort zone. 😉

Sailing through their University award on Sunday morning, this is the smallest class I teach but with some serious sass to make up for it… and then there’s the dogs. 😉

So proud of you all and a joy to teach. Running around like loons resumes this week. 🌬️ ❤️💚💙

SO unbelievably proud of this lot, my Saturday PM’ers on absolutely SAILING through their University award this afternoon. 👏🏼

We’ve battled with some seeerious drive and the impulsivity that can come with that, and well- being 3/4 husky. 😉
But they always work so so hard, are a joy to teach and are often rocking up to class with goodies. 🫶🏼

Just one more award to go now, let’s goooo! 💪🏼

Hottest day of the year so far! ☀️

Lessons have been moved early and late today, the pool will be filled up and we will do a chunk of the lesson underneath the covered area in the shade. Tomorrow looks a bit more manageable so lessons will stay at the same time, puppy class will mostly be in the shaded area.

Don’t forget your sun cream, plenty of drinking water for both of you and cooling coats/bandanas if you’ve got them. 😊

INTRODUCING… The Team Dog honesty shop. 😃

After a few ‘Lyndssss I forgot my treats’ and ‘oh but he loves these Wagg treats at home’ (😵‍💫) moments recently, I’ve decided to pop one of these on the side of the shed.

£2 will get you 100g of chopped up cheese/sausages or mixed training slices, plus there’s poo bag rolls if you need to grab some of those.

Just pop your money in the corresponding tin at the start of your lesson, or grab me to pay by card if you need. I’ll always keep it stocked up for every lesson so you can rely on it if you’d like to. 😊

The weather Gods were looking out for us last night on our July Team Walk! 🙏🏼

A varied route with lots of opportunity for confidence building, all the dogs coped fabulously. Again, 50% of these dogs were highly dog reactive when they started at TD. 💪🏼

Keep your eyes peeled for the rest of the summer’s Friday evening dates, and if you’re unsure about whether your dog would be suitable for a Team Walk- drop me a message. 😊

Just a late night note to say I’ve been absolutely stacked up since I got back from our jollies, out with clients until 9pm every evening- so I’ve fallen behind on the messages, enquiries and the group chats. 🫠

I’ve got another busy weekend this weekend but I’ll try my very hardest to catch up and get back to all by Monday/Tuesday at the latest.

Ahhhh LOOK at this lovely lot! 😍 who smashed their College assessment yesterday. 👏🏼

Always the biggest laugh, they turned up last week in terrible weather and everyone was feeling very glum (including me!) about our lack of summer up to that point. By the end of the lesson, everyone was cracking up at Bob forgetting to stop his dog and left in great spirits, after chatting in the car park for a bit. 😅🫶🏼

It’s not just dog training, and I’m so blooming proud of this element of my little club. 🥰 and the sun is back!!! ☀️

Another lovely Team Walk yesterday evening in Southwold. 🚶🏼‍♀️ 🐾

We had perfect weather, immaculately behaved doggos and finished with a settle at The Sail Loft. 🍺

The next one has just one space remaining and is on the 5th July with a walk along the river at Beccles marshes, with a pub stop halfway round. Pubs = dog training. 😉

‘WHEN CAN I STOP TRAINING OR REWARDING MY DOG?’ 🫠 This is a question us dog trainers hear ALL the time. And my answer often isn’t the one people want to hear… The good news is, you can often reward less frequently once a behaviour becomes more established, and this can often actually increase the dog’s motivation to perform the established behaviour. 😊 BUT. If you’re not rewarding desirable behaviour, however established it may be, alternative and potentially less desirable behaviours may become more rewarding for the dog. Stopped filling your pockets with snacks before an off lead stomp? Watch that recall become less and less effective. 😮‍💨 Most dog trainers would agree you can take your foot off the gas a little from 3-5 years old, and I certainly have with scruffpot. But we still train every single day, every single walk. Because- 🐌 Habits form. Like dawdling a fair distance behind me, sniffing every blade of grass. We live in a v quiet area so not an issue, until he’s 💩’d and I have to keep going back for it. So we’re rewarding proximity, keep up with me and I’ll lob you some lunch. 🐄 Stimuli pop up in the environment. They’ve put cows in this field along one our usual routes. I’ll probably always pop him on lead, but encouraging disengagement means that should he be off lead and we encounter them anywhere else, he’ll see more value in engaging with me than cows. 💰 Paying established behaviours that are super valuable is still important. We negotiate all blind corners like this, especially this one where there are four footpaths joining. I check for dogs on lead, wildlife, horses and farm vehicles- before releasing him. We train almost entirely with his daily allowance of his @edenpetfoods Semi-Moist, which I’ll do another post on soon. 🐺

TRAINING AN ADVENTURE BUDDY. 💚♥️💙 The world of dog training can be an absolute minefield for the dog owner. What to train, how to train it, what do I want from my dog?! 😮‍💨 My number one focus when raising Albo was being able to take him absolutely anywhere. Socialisation = neutrality = adventures together. 🐺👱🏼‍♀️ We have worked HARD to get to where we are today, and it’s something I teach to clients day in, day out. Because Team Dog trains pet dogs. Not gundogs, not working trials dogs, not agility champs. Just training your little mates to be happy, confident and content. So you can convince your salon to let them come hang. 😉👏🏼 Not bad for a Covid pup, eh? 🫶🏼

When your 10am class of mostly retrieving breeds (and a boxer that loves a toy 🫶🏼) turn up with the wind up their tails... There’s only one thing for it- utilising the 2.5 acres, stuffing eight toys in my coat so I don’t get mugged and doing some distance retrieves to put some of that energy to good use! 🌪️

There’s something about the brightly coloured equipment against the snow and frost! ❄️ 💙❤️💚
