Just love this quote… an oldie but a goodie. Living in London, this is always something to consider it can be a tough challenge for our dogs at times 🧡

From the amazing Kay Laurence “walking with a friend while having conversation”, let’s rather call it browsing, with respect for each others’ natural interests and pace.
In an interview on the Karen Pryor Clicker Training website, Kay highlights how ‘what we call something influences how we view it’. So yes, let’s call it browsing together! 🧡😊
Congratulations puppy people, and dogs, on a great graduation class. Please keep me posted! ⭐️🥇💛

Using a fixed length lead, keeping a fixed length, helps our dogs to work out where we’d like them to be (in the reward zone). ❤️🧡

Great job! Using the Up&Down game can help centre more attention on you when you get to new places. Get in touch to learn how to play, and start your training journey ⭐️ &down
Look what arrived today Thank you 👏🏼Help spread the word in your local area. There are so many reasons why some dogs may need more space. Puppies in training are just one example. Dogs in season, or those that are a bit anxious will love you for giving them a bit more room👍🏼🙌👏🏼😀
In(K)orporating Kibble
*5* Reasons to use some of your dog’s daily food allowance in easy training at home (or where they can be successful in mildly distracting environments).
Using a portion of your pup’s food for easy, adhoc training:
1. Adds value to the kibble (making it even more satisfying).
2. Provides extra opportunities for mental stimulation (as they learn how to play the training game).
3. Strengthens your communications system (as does all Positive Reinforcement training).
4. Builds your bond – you’re the one handing out all the prizes!
5. Keep higher value rewards for when you need them. (Like practising Recall!).
PS Doesn’t have to be biscuits, no matter what diet your dog is on, there are different ways to use food in daily training.
Such sweeties! Well done everyone, wonderful progress made by all as these little ones have grown over the weeks. Gold stars for all your patience and practise. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🙏🏼 Great to see the results of your practise sessions. Thank you for this lovely feedback. All feedback is a gift 🎁

What is Mindful training ? We might not be aware, when training, of the little movements that we make – - these could be subconscious tugs on the lead, the pulls, the prompts, the clues, the sneaky ways we get our dog to do something. Sometimes our brain is working behind the scenes to ‘get’ us the results we want- but it’s not in the best interests of the learner – or supportive of long term success. – Can we seek to practice more ‘mindful training’. We try to be more aware of our leash tension, our own body language, we are aware of how our dog is looking – there might be clues to how they are feeling. What does it say about how we could/ should push to the next level, should we make things easier? Have we done the same thing too many times? What does the environment look like, are there distractions around? We’re thinking about this from our dog’s point of view. Can we see ourselves, caregiver and dog, in the big picture, can we zoom out, stop to take a step back and think about how this would look were we a squirrel atop a tree, would we approve, given all we know about the science behind training, learning theory and the fact that reinforcement drives behaviour. One way to kickstart and support this journey is to capture bits of our training on video, either with gadgets and go-pros or simply having someone else film what we’re doing. And then watch back. Usually it takes many replays to catch all that’s going on. Spoiler alert – we’re not always doing what we think we are, or what we set out to do. Or even what we know to be the best approach. #MindfulTraining #puppytraining #puppylove #dogsofeastlondon #puppylifelondon
