✨ Today, we’re thrilled to announce our second featured act for Fabulous February—the one and only

Dr Lee Campbell is no stranger to our open mic stage, but this time, he’s stepping up as a featured act, and we couldn’t be more excited!

A poet, artist, curator of q***r film project Homo Humour, and co-curator of POW! Play on Words, Lee has performed worldwide since 2000. From National Poetry Library to Prague Biennale, and even BBC Radio 4, Lee’s accomplishments are as impressive as his words are impactful.

His debut poetry collection, See Me: An (Almost) Autobiography, published by London Poetry Books, and his experimental performance poetry films have earned accolades across the globe, including a shortlist for the Out-Spoken Poetry Prize 2023. And his next book, POW! is due to be released on Feb 17th… Don’t miss this chance to experience his brilliance live!

Merry Christmas Eve, Word Zoo Family! We hope you’re soaking up the festive vibes and gearing up to spend some quality time with your loved ones. Whether you’re all-in for a classic Christmas or keeping it Not-So-Christmassy, we’re here for it!

Looking back to Thursday, 5th December, when we kicked off the season with our Not-So-Christmassy Christmas Special—what a night! We told the hilarious story of The NOTivity, complete with sketches, Crude Christmas Carols, and, of course, a raffle to keep things extra festive.

This month for our featured acts we had the incredible , who made his FIRST EVER featured act performance one to remember. He brought his signature style of intimate, relatable poetry—brimming with charm and authenticity. He had us all feeling like we were catching up with an old friend, and we couldn’t get enough! And a Special Guest feature from The Desperate Mothers of . They treated us to a stripped-back version of their usual high-energy brilliance—complete with a festive twist! As they also starred in the hilarious Christm-AssCrack Choir, they truly bringing the holiday vibes.

Massive love to all the open mic legends who traveled near and far to grace the stage and share your unforgettable words! 🎤✨ You brought the energy, the vibes, and the magic—we couldn’t have done it without you!

Last Week Thursday was the first Thursday of the month which meant that The Word Zoo was back to kick off your November with Nurturing vibes in the form of POETRY, MUSIC AND VIBES

This month for our Featured Acts we had who took us on a journey through his work, giving us “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue.” The audience loved hearing his classic pieces in a fresh format—still packed with that signature humor and hard-hitting style. A true master at work, Tyrone kept us laughing, thinking, and feeling every line and , lighting up the stage in vibrant pink and yellow, strumming his pink guitar and tapping on a vintage Children’s Casio VO1 Keyboard—a quirky little instrument that’s half keyboard, half working calculator! His melodies had the audience laughing, swooning, and feeling every beat. Between songs, he gave us a glimpse into his world, sharing stories that hit just as hard as his tunes. A true original, he kept everyone spellbound!

Huge love to all the open mic legends who traveled from near and far to bring pure magic to the stage! The energy you brought was next-level 🎤✨

Tyrone Lewis (He/him), UK Poetry Slam Champion, Poetry Slam Champion, Axis Poetry Slam Champion and Author of his debut collection ‘Blackish’ and its sequel, ‘2 Black 2 Furious’.

Tyrone is the Founder of as well as its monthly Spoken Word Night; Process. He was also one of the inaugural Albany Associate Artists as well as hosting, producing, and featuring at many Spoken Word nights across the UK.

Tyrone has also been involved with a number of major national poetry events over the years including 2010’s Word Cup, 2012’s Shake The Dust and 2015’s Shot From The Lip, as well as helping out with in from 2016 - present.
