Little Felicity came in last week as she was having some problems with a baby tooth that did not want to come out without a little help.

Dogs get their baby teeth as young as 2 weeks old and usually start to use these 28 teeth at around 3 months of age.

During this time puppyโ€™s maybe more irritable, chew everything in sight, drool more, paw at their mouth, be off their food and you may see some blood spots of find a wayward tooth in toys or around the house.

Teething can be an unpleasant uncomfortable time for our pups but it does pass if like Felicity your pup has a stubborn baby tooth which is causing them discomfort then please call the surgery so we can have them checked out and make them feel better.

The amazingly brave Arlo came in last week for his neutering.

But why do we neuter our dogs?

Neutering, (or castration) is the removal of the testicles meaning the dog is no longer fertile.

It is a relatively quick surgery with an average recovery time of 7 to 10 days.

There are many health benefits including:-

๐Ÿฆฎ testicular tumours
๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ enlarged prostate glands
๐Ÿฆฎ reduced testosterone levels

Want to know more about castration call the surgery and have a chat with one of our nursing team on 020 8319 3033.

The very regal Nala in for her neutering last week.

But why neuter your female cat?

preventing behaviours associated with being in โ€˜heatโ€™, which can include calling, spraying, and trying to escape or wandering further than normal

๐Ÿˆโ€โฌ› reducing the risk of womb infections

๐Ÿˆ reducing the risk of tumours and certain cancers, for example mammary cancer (which is over 90% less likely if cats are spayed before six months old)

๐Ÿˆโ€โฌ› helping your cat to stay healthy. Female cats can have up to 18 kittens a year which is a lot of extra mouths for owners to feed and rehome, and can cause females to lose condition and be more vulnerable to disease

Have more questions about neutering your female cat? Book a call back with one of our nursing team who will be happy to talk you through the procedure.

๐Ÿˆ Importance of vaccinations ๐Ÿ•

We all want the best for our pets, especially when it comes to keeping them healthy, we know there is a lot of information about vaccines and it can become very confusing so we are here to break it down for you.

Vaccinations are needed to

โœ…๏ธProtect our pets from nasty, life-threatening diseases

โœ…๏ธGive peace of mind

โœ…๏ธCreate or boost our pets' immunity to certain diseases

โœ…๏ธPrevent our pets from passing on a disease such as Leptospirosis, which can be passed from animals to people

Sadly, a lot of the diseases our pets can catch if they arenโ€™t vaccinated are fatal in most cases. Even if your pet catches one and is able to recover, they will often be left with long-term problems, which can put them through a lot of pain and distress and leave you with some costly vet bills.

What's vaccines cover-

Dogs ๐Ÿ•
โ— Leptospirosis
โ—parvovirus
โ—Canine distemper
โ— hepatitis

Cats ๐Ÿˆ
โ—cat flu
โ—infectious enteritis
โ—leukaemia virus

Rabbits ๐Ÿ‡
โ— myxomatosis
โ—haemorrhagic disease 1 (rhd1)
โ—haemorrhagic disease 2 (rhd 2)

Our Pets should be vaccinated while they are young to protect them. Vaccination courses for kittens and puppies start from around eight to ten weeks old. Rabbits can have their vaccines from as early as five weeks. After their first course, your pet will need yearly boosters to keep them protected.

DONT FORGET THAT VACCINES ARE INCLUDED IN OUR AMAZING VIP PLAN -
VIP benefits:
โœ…yearly vaccinations
โœ…kennel cough vaccination
โœ…10% off all treatments and services, including our 24-hour vetcare service
โœ… 1years worth of flea and worm treatment
โœ… 30% off Hills and Royal Canin food - when ordered from our online shop
โœ… The convenience of monthly payments
โœ…๏ธWe even offer a home delivery service

Whiskers has shown a lot of progress this week. He has received outstanding care from the vets in the clinic, the nurses providing physiotherapy and all the love and cuddles from the whole Animal Clinic Team. The Pet Health and Therapy Centre in Welling have a fabulous team who have lovingly provided specialised physiotherapy with laser treatments . The result of the treatment has been the gradual return of movement in his back legs and tail. He took a step in his therapy session with Leanne our Headnurse and my delight. Hannah at the Therapy Centre was rewarded with two wonky steps. Whiskers needs to build up his strength and relearn how to walk again. This little brave kitty is trying very hard and is tired out after these sessions. We will keep you posted on his progress. Thank you all for caring about this precious little cat.
