Hounslow Animal Welfare Society (HAWS)

Hounslow Animal Welfare Society (HAWS) We rescue and rehome hundreds of abandoned cats, kittens and other animals every year.

We don't have a rescue centre to visit, instead all the animals are looked after in the homes of our network of amazing foster carers.

πŸ‡ Speak Up for Rabbits! 🏠

If you’ve visited a pet shop recently and noticed their rabbits were kept in poor conditions or that the hutches they sell are far too small & don’t meet our recommended minimum space of 3m x 2m and 1m high then we have the resource you need to make a complaint over on our website here:

Congratulations to Mr Mitchell who won the 'Guess the number of baubles' competition we were running while fundraising inside the Pets at Home store in Brentford in the run up to Christmas. He was spot on with his guess of 104 baubles in the jar!

Wishing a very Happy New Year to all our supporters everywhere.

Peanut wants to wish you a merry Christmas from all of us at the Hounslow Animal Welfare Society, on behalf of all the bunnies, guinea pigs, cats and kittens and of course us volunteers as well! πŸŽ„

We hope you and your furry family members have a wonderful day filled with lπŸ’–ve.

Thank you for all your support over the last year, it's been another hard one, but with the help of all our volunteers and supporters we've managed to save many, many animals. And we are ready to do it all again next year. πŸ’ͺ

For now, let's, eat, drink and be merry and treasure all the animals in our lives, whether in our homes, our gardens, our parks, woodlands, mountains or seas. What would we do without all these beautiful creatures in the world. Let's look after them all together πŸ’–

Merry Christmas, everyone! πŸ•ŠοΈ

You may have heard of the famous words from Marie Antoinette - let them eat cake when the population were starving and there was no bread. Where cats are concerned this is not good

We had a cat rushed to an emergency vet after he managed to rip open a box containing a cake and ate quite a bit. It contained raisins which are toxic. Fortunately he is absolutely fine but we have a bill of almost a thousand pounds.
With Christmas around the corner please check what items are toxic to cats and dogs. It's a busy time and so easy to leave something out like a couple of mince pies and end up with a huge bill or worse. You can also find out what treats are safe for them.
Wishing all your family members a very Happy Christmas

Update! Solo and Juliette the young pair found abandoned by in a bin in the park.
Both rabbits have settled well into their foster home. Today they were neutered by the lovely staff at Twickenham vets. Hence the sleepy faces. Home now to recover. They will be ready for rehoming after Christmas.

Acer and Ash are feeling festive! (Well they enjoyed nibbling the tree!)
Help us find them their forever family! They have moved to a new foster home with younger children. Both rabbits are very gentle and are now used to regular handling. Making them even more relaxed and ready for a new home. Please contact us if you are able to offer them a home.

We love Christmas, but what we don’t love is rabbits being given as a Christmas gift. Rabbits are not just for Christmas, they are pets that deserve our care and commitment for many years πŸ°πŸŽπŸ™…

Contrary to popular belief, rabbits do not make good first-time pets for children and are not a good Christmas present idea. Rabbits are a 10-year commitment and can equate to over Β£11,000 over their lifetime!

This is one of the reasons why so many rabbits are abandoned every year, and UK rescue centres are facing a huge crisis - the worst ever.

Rabbits are living, breathing animals, not objects or playthings. Don’t add to the current welfare crisis, please think twice about giving rabbits as Christmas presents.

Solo and Juliette πŸ’™ ❀️
Sadly this young pair of rabbits were found dumped in a box next to bin in Richmond park. Luckily a passer by rescued them from certain death and took them to a local vet practice, who then contacted us.
They are now settling into their new foster home, they will be available for rehoming once they have gained some weight and been neutered.
If you find yourself unable to no longer care for a pet. Please make every attempt to contact an animal charity or speak to your local vets.
Big shout out to all the staff at Medivet Kingston.

We are trying to get in touch with someone who adopted two kittens from us Echo and Ernie. The adoption paperwork has gone astray so we can't register the microchips to the new owners. They are registered to HAWS so would be alerted if they were found but wouldn't be able to re-unite them. We are keeping our fingers crossed. Please email [email protected]

Acer and Ash, still looking for their forever home. A pair of brothers now aged 2 years. They have been with us since they were 8 weeks old. Gentle, sensitive and easy going. Could these boys be the rabbits for you? They can live indoors or out. Please contact us if you are able to offer them a home.
Both neutered and up to date with vaccines.
