Easily being one of my favourite projects as of recently. Pairing the beautiful Hogna carolinensis. Commonly known as the “Carolina Wolf Spider”, this large species of Lycosidae originate from grassland areas of North America.

With two females captive paired (one already laid a sack) and two wc females producing sacks. I’m eagerly awaiting them to hatch to attempt to establish a healthy captive bred population here in the U.K.! For those that have yet to keep lycosids in general, I highly recommend them for their beautiful colourations and hunting techniques! Everything crossed for success with this species😊

Apologies for the radio silence! Been really busy at work the past few weeks so haven’t been able to sit down and sort out some posts! But check out these absolutely stunning Cubaris sp “Rubber Ducky”. A beautiful species of terrestrial isopod originating from limestone caves in Thailand.

Recently discovered in 2017, this species has become the face of the isopod hobby due to their iconic face looking just like you guessed it, a rubber ducky. I’ve been lucky enough to get a culture of these from .exotics and already have mancae wandering around in the tub they’re in!

Well… this happened last night! Captive breeding of Thelcticopis orichalcea (sp “Gold Black”) and a successful pairing at that! As far as the whole process it went fairly smooth, most of which happened in the dark as to not disturb them, male spent a few minutes huddled next to the females “nest” in the leaf litter. After leaving for about an hour, I noticed the male had enticed the female out and was on top of her (at first I was weirded out as it looked like he was eating her)

Unfortunately wasn’t able to record the drumming process as he was on top of her but what I can say it was very subtle full body shakes with the occasional tapping of his pedipalps. The full length of the pairing would roughly be about 40 minutes but unsure as this was late last night and I fell asleep (oops🤣)

Overall, I’m over the moon with this pairing due to the fact it may very well be the first documented case here in the U.K.! Fingers crossed it was a success and I get some beautiful babies hatch out 🤞🏽

Definitely a highlight for me on Sunday was being able to have a chat with the one and only Richard from the the_tarantula_collective!! Although nearer to the end of the day as I was super busy trading at my stand, Richard having the time to chat to me was honestly so nice. Comparing the U.K. vs US price of G pulchra and other topics (something planned😉) and getting a picture and autographed photos just made the day even more special!

(Check the end picture of me and Richard watching a balfouri communal video🤣)

What an absolute fantastic day yesterday was! The very first Captial Invert Show hosted by Invert Shows UK!!

As always, the shows put on by them is amazing and this one definitely didn’t disappoint! From a trading point of view I feel I did pretty good, getting to sell about half the table!

Of course you can’t forget about the social aspect of these shows, getting to meet up with friends old and new as well as peeps who subscribe and watch my content (surreal at times honestly). Thank you all who came over, had a chat, took some photos and overall just made the day as good as it was! The next show I’ll be trading at is the British Tarantula Society show, May 21st! See you all there😊

So last night I couldn’t sleep so what better to do than try to get some pairings done! That’s exactly what I did with one of my adult female Heteropoda lunula! If you’ve seen my previous post I had my male mature out recently and although I didn’t whiteness a s***m web being produced (maybe he ate it after ok not sure) he was really searching for a female at night so decided to give it a go!

With some encouragement I got him into the females enclosure where she was receptive almost straight away, and the pair went straight to it only 5 minutes after the male entering! You can see in the video the male inserting the hook on his emboli into the females epigyne, to insert his s***m!

Fingers crossed she produces a good sack soon!

Another great day in the bug room with a bed in it 🤣 I’ve been doing some check ups on the spiders and happy to find the following:

Picture 1: My male Heteropoda lunula has finally molted to maturity, which is exciting as I’ll finally have the chance to be able to breed this beautiful species!

Picture 2: My female Heteropoda venatoria has popped an egg sack! Though a commonish species of huntsman in the hobby I’ve wanted to breed them as haven’t seen any around for a while!

Picture 3: A successful pairing of Gandanameno sp, the nymphs have started to darken so hopefully will have a few slings wandering about soon!

When it comes to enclosure types, there’s a lot to choose from for sure! One of my go to’s are Braplast 5.8l cubes as seen in picture one! They’re an all around perfect enclosure for many reasons such as:

- Spacious
- Can be used for all types of set up (terrestrial, fossorial, arboreal)
- Used to grow up slings, house gravid females etc
- Cost effective (cheap in bulk)
- Stackable
- Clear

And many more! I like to make them both aesthetically pleasing for myself as well as enriching to the inverts housed inside. As seen in first image, including a hide, live plants, mosses, leaf litter etc! it’s nice to see the trues wandering around at night, especially this Heteropoda lunula female in the second picture hanging out on the pothos leaves!

Another hatch in the bug room (aka my bedroom for now🤣), the beautiful Barylestis variatus. Commonly mislabelled by vendors as “Barylestis scutatus” juveniles, this smaller species of sparassid come from forested areas of Africa, mainly being exported from Cameroon along side occidentalis (which are also mislabelled as scutatus).

This wild caught female has been a great mum, like all sparassidae, protecting the sack throughout the entire incubation period, not eating or drinking. I could’ve probably left the sack with her a few more days before pulling but I do like to take the sack away in the off chance that she gets disturbed too much and eats it.

This species of one I’d recommend to beginners due to their small size as adults and their stunning colouration, mimicking bark. Hopefully will be able to offer some for new homes and of course holding some back for future breeding projects 😄

A first on the page, a breeding success! Pictured is the absolutely stunning Hogna maderiana (ex schmitzi)… I wish they kept schmitzi.. sounds cooler lol! Hogna maderiana are known for their striking front two pairs of legs and their chelicerae (fangs) that have a beautiful golden colouration, with the pedipalps having a more goldish orange. This species of lycosid has got to be my favourite we can currently keep in the hobby and I’m glad to announce that I’ve had success breeding two females!

Breeding these has been fairly easy with my male at the time being really receptive, with the larger female being more shy tho I believe at the time of the first couple attempts she was still subadult and the second female being just as receptive back. When the pairing took place, both times was roughly around half an hour, with the male constantly rotating the females abdomen to insert s***m. As of this post, both females are currently carrying their brood on their back and hopefully will have a few looking homes in the next few months tho I am going to holding a load back for future breedings 😄

Seeing as this is my business page, I should probably post an a list of sp needing new homes🤣

Please pm for details. Can post out but due to current weather, next postal run will be 13/3/23😄

Busy day rehousing some slings. Here’s one species I’ve potted up, Ctenidae sp “Mamfe Road”. A stunning medium sized ctenid that’s recently popped up in the hobby with a stunning golden colouration giving them the common name of the “Gold Fanged Wandering Spider”.

Will hopefully raise these Captive Born (CBB) slings for some new homes and to hold back a few for future breeding😄

One particular species of araneomorph im excited to be working with is the absolutely stunning Piloctenus haematosoma, commonly known as the ”Red Fang Wandering Spider”. Endemic to forested areas of Africa such as Cameroon, this species of ctenid is known for the striking red colouration of their chelicerae (fangs).

So far, I’ve been able to successful raise wc juveniles (pictures 1 and 2) to adulthood, hatch out egg sacks produced by wild caught females and raise the slings which has been a great experience. As of this post, I have both wild caught and captive born individuals and hoping to get my first generation of captive bred slings soon, which will be a great achievement. This species hasn’t been in the hobby for too long and one that I am definitely going to be working to establish a constant captive bred population so that everyone can get one of these beautiful spiders.

The reputation of ctenids being fast, aggressive spiders stems from the infamous Phonutria genus or the Brazilian Wandering Spiders, which has led to people being wary of the whole family. Whilst there’s no concrete evidence that Piloctenus haemantosoma has the same potency of venom as Phonutria, I still treat them as if they are medically significant. Using tongs to feed, utilising catch cups to rehouse. But if treated with respect, these spiders really are a treat to own and more docile than lead to believe.

Welcome to my business page! Here you’ll be be able to see all the breeding projects that I’m working on, what’s gonna be up for grabs as well as other things such as YouTube videos, enclosure set ups etc 😄

A quick introduction to myself! My names Jerimie and I’m a passionate invert hobbyist looking to working with a vast variety of species. I’ve been keeping exotic invertebrates for a few years now and hoping to be breeding a lot of araneomorphs (true spiders) as a well as other types of miscellaneous inverts in hopes of getting captive bred populations in the U.K. hobby! Thanks for checking out the page and hope to see you stick around😄

Check out some of the species I have with the photos below👀
