Are Biodegradable Dog P**p Bags Really Biodegradable?

As pet owners, we are responsible for the well-being of our furry friends and the environment. One way to contribute to a healthier planet is by using an eco-friendly dog p**p bag. But the question is, are biodegradable dog p**p bags biodegradable?

Understanding biodegradability
Before we answer the main question, let's first understand what 'biodegradable' means. In simple terms, a product is biodegradable if it can be broken down by microorganisms (like bacteria or fungi) into water, carbon dioxide and biomass in a reasonable amount of time.

However, not all products labelled 'biodegradable' live up to their name. Some take hundreds of years to decompose fully, while others only break down under specific conditions. This leads us to our next point.

The truth about biodegradable dog p**p bags
The term 'biodegradable dog poo bags' has been used so loosely that it has lost its true meaning. Many manufacturers claim their dog p**p bags are biodegradable when they take centuries to fully decompose or need specific conditions like high temperatures or industrial composting facilities.

Some bags labelled as biodegradable are made from plastic mixed with additives that help them break down faster when exposed to light or oxygen. However, these bags often break down into tiny fragments known as microplastics which can cause harm to marine life and contaminate the soil.

So, when you see a dog p**p bag labelled as 'biodegradable', it's essential to dig deeper and find out what it's made of and how long it takes the plastic bag to decompose fully.

Choosing a truly eco-friendly dog p**p bag
If you want to ensure you're using an eco-friendly dog p**p bag that's genuinely a biodegradable material, look for bags made from plant-based materials like non-GMO cornstarch or other compostable materials. These bags will decompose naturally in a compost pile within 3-6 months without leaving a carbon footprint or any harmful residues behind.

These certifications ensure that the product meets strict criteria for compostability, including disintegration within 180 days and no harmful residue left in the compost.

Another good option is paper bags. While they may not be as convenient as plastic ones, they are easily compostable and readily available.

Biodegradable is a trendy term that many products description uses loosely. Learn in this article the ins and outs of biodegradable dog p**p bags so you can make well-informed decision in your next purchase.

Excellent new, happy Memo!!!

WE ARE SO HAPPY! NEMO HAS A FANTSSTIC FOSTER FAMILY TO GO TO!

πŸš¨β€ΌοΈURGENT APPEAL β€ΌοΈβ€ΌοΈπŸš¨

Unfortunately our previous appeal came to nothing. We had a foster offer which sadly fell through and now Nemo is in emergency foster care.

Nemo is a gorgeous young Galgo who has been through hell physically and mentally but he is a survivor!

Nemo needs a family who are home a lot while he adjusts though he can be left for a couple of hours.

He needs a home with another confident dog who might like to play sometimes.

He also needs a quiet area as busy places and lots of people worry him.

We feel gutted that his time in the UK has been unsettled when all he wants to do is belong in a family and find peace and happiness.

We highlight once more this is URGENT!

Please can anyone help give this boy stability and time?

How to Keep Your Home Smelling Fresh with Dogs Around

We love our pets, but let's be honest – sometimes their doggy smell can stick around a bit too long in the house. Sound familiar? Many of us share the struggle of keeping our homes fresh, especially when our canine companions spend most of their days indoors.

Don't worry though, fellow dog parents! We have some easy and effective tips to help you deal with this common situation. Get set to say bye-bye to doggy smells and enjoy a breath of fresh air once more.

Regular Grooming Sessions
Regular grooming sessions are a bit like giving your pooch a spa treatment β€” they keep your dog looking great and help tackle those unwanted odours that can linger in your home. Brush their fur often to stop all that shedding and keep it shiny and healthy – and smelling lovely too!

It's also a perfect time to chat and bond with your pup while you brush out any knots. Not to mention, keeping an eye on your dog during brushing can help spot any potential health issues early, which can save you both a lot of hassle later on.

After a good brush, freshen up your dog's bed with a few sprays of pet bed refresher – it's like the finishing touch on a delicious sundae, making your whole house smell clean and fresh.

Wash Pet Bedding Frequently
Making sure you wash your pet's bedding regularly is like pressing the reset button every week. It keeps their sleeping spot comfy and fresh, making your whole house smell good too.

Because your pet spends most of their snooze time curled up in their bed. Over time, if you don't wash it often all those doggy cuddles leave behind dirt and oils that can make the bed (and your whole house) a bit smelly. Rest assured! Simply toss their bed in the washing machine with pet-friendly soap once a week, and those yucky smells will be gone – hello fresh-smelling home! It's super easy – just pop it in, add soap, and let the machine do its work. Your pup will be happy, and your house will feel like a breath of fresh air.

Remember, regular washing does two great things: it removes those doggy smells and keeps your pet's bed nice and clean. When you wash away dirt, dust, and bits that can make them sniffle, you're helping your furry friend stay healthy and happy.

Vacuum and Clean Floors
Regular vacuuming is your secret weapon against fur-filled floors and lingering odours! When your dog trots around the house, it leaves behind more than just paw printsβ€”it also sheds fur and tracks in dirt that can make your home smell less than fresh.

Focus on the areas your pet loves to relax in, the paths they walk around the house, like their bed or the sofa, and the pathways they frequently use around the house. This doesn't just remove fur and dirt, it also helps eliminate dust and other allergens that can trigger your pet's sneezing. Try to invest in a vacuum cleaner with a pet-friendly filter to grab all that fur and dander. With a little effort, you'll have a sparkling clean home that smells great and a happy healthy pet who can breathe easy too.

Improving Behavior With Probiotics:

Dog's playing in the park

The connection between the gut and the brain is fascinating and complex, and it turns out it applies to our dogs too! Emerging research in the field of the gut-brain axis suggests that a healthy gut microbiome can positively influence mood, behaviour, and even thinking function.

So, how do probiotics fit into this? Probiotics can indirectly support your dog's mental and emotional well-being by promoting a balanced and healthy gut environment. Here's how:

Mood Enhancement: Certain gut bacteria produce neurotransmitters like serotonin, which play an essential role in mood regulation. Probiotics, by promoting the growth of these beneficial bacteria, may help elevate your dog's mood and reduce anxiety.
Stress Reduction: A healthy gut microbiome can help regulate the production of stress hormones, leading to a calmer and more relaxed pup.
Thinking Function: Studies suggest a potential link between gut health and thinking function. Probiotics may support healthy brain function and improve learning and memory in dogs.

Supporting Dogs With Seasonal Allergies

Seasonal allergies can be a real nuisance for dogs, causing discomfort and distress, but probiotics can offer relief! They offer a natural and effective way to support dogs with seasonal allergies.

Incorporating probiotics for dogs into their daily routine during allergy season can provide much-needed relief and improve their overall quality of life. This can lead to fewer symptoms such as itching, scratching, and sneezing, allowing your dog to enjoy the outdoors without constant discomfort.

Aiding Doggy Digestion
Probiotics and bacterias

Nobody likes a tummy ache, especially dogs! But with probiotics, your dog's belly can feel better in no time. They work by balancing the so-called β€œfriendly” bacteria in your dog's gut, which makes digestion smoother and reduces any tummy woes.

Probiotics for dogs help reduce discomfort and improve nutrient absorption, ensuring that your dog receives the maximum benefit from their food. Adding probiotics to your dog’s diet can be especially helpful when they're stressed, their diet changes or their tummy feels upset.

Helping Senior Dogs Stay Energetic
As dogs age, their bodies experience various changes, including a decline in immune function. Probiotics for dogs can be particularly beneficial for senior canines, helping them stay healthy and active as they enter their golden years.

A healthy gut is the foundation for a healthy senior dog. Probiotics play an important role in maintaining gut health by fostering a balanced microbiome, which strengthens the immune system and improves the body's ability to absorb essential nutrients. This is particularly important for older dogs, as their immune function and digestive efficiency naturally decline.

Furthermore, these beneficial bacteria can help alleviate age-related digestive issues such as constipation or irregularity, promoting comfort and vitality.
