Thank you for having us! More photos coming soon!
Following on from the end of my last post, (about there being another cat I would be looking for a forever home for) Yesterday, things got a bit more complicated and expensive, but I wasn’t going to leave her where she was. I completely realise that there is much going on in the world than a tiny cat 🐈⬛ but If anyone is able to donate even £2 towards her rather large operation today, I’d be so grateful. The full story (so far) is in the link. If you want to follow her progress check out on INSTAGRAM. She will be looking for a forever home for her, but not until she fully recovers 💝
Weʼre raising money to Help Anna raise some money to go towards Blips vet bill. Tomorrow she will have her leg (which was falling off) sewn back together.. Support this JustGiving Crowdfunding Page.

Looking for someone who illustrates for a hobby and would like a little project!! 💜
Almost 3 Weeks to the day! I held Bruce, confidently twice. I’ve been so worried about picking him up as he’s SO huge, but he let me and was as relaxed as an Iguana can be, I almost think he enjoyed it!! It’s important for me that I am able to pick them up because, as in this case, he was covered in poo, I needed to clean out where he was sitting, if he ever needs the vet I have to be able to get him there, I also want to be able to show him the world, not just keep him in a giant box, I want to take him in the garden in the summer, smell flowers climb a (small!) tree (supervised!) and I need to give the stinker a proper wash and clean, he’s never had one in all his 8 years apparently! Bruce the King oh how I loveth thee!
New enclosures for the new residents arriving in the next 2 days….
The countdown begins 🫣🦖🦖💗
Hi Everyone! If anyone lives in or around Brixton or Croydon (Coulsdon) and would like to bring their children to my educational reptile encounters for home schoolers please let me know. Classes will be in small groups, I have a foundation teaching degree, DBS, paediatric first aid, public liability insurance and animal license, so your children and all animals are in very safe hands, you are welcome to stay with your child if you want to. Each class will cover a different reptile, learning about their anatomy, their life in the wild and in captivity, their care, we will also learn about (for example) the rainforest, the desert etc worksheets will be provided. The classes are there to spark an interest in these incredible creatures, possibly even inspire a future career in veterinary care (specialising in reptiles), Zoology, conservation or just to have a chance to meet and handle some incredible creatures, ALL are rescues or rehomed so have stories of survival in awe. My website is up in a few days but drop me a message, email on [email protected] and find me on Instagram and

Looking forward to our playgroups starting in only a few Wks in Brixton you book here and come and join in the fun. All activities you do will be on reclaimed and recycled materials and you get to feed the rabbits and Guinea pigs and one exotic reptile which we will learn about and paint book here: https://bookwhen.com/thedragonshelter
Very excited as it’s confirmed the Naked Hare Salon owners and team, have asked me to come on board and provide Brixton Mums and Dads a Weekly playgroup and Crèche for the salon. It’s a playgroup with a difference as there will be rescue (now resident!) Bunny rabbits Bill and Betty and our two little Guinea pigs to feed and stroak. Plus, given I run a rescue for reptiles, I will bring in ONE exotic reptile each Week we will learn about, draw and do crafts. Every activity you do will be recyled, reclaimed materials and everyone will learn something about a magical creature, tortoises, chameleons, snakes and of course the mini dragons. Playgroups parents/carers stay with your children, If you’re interested in the Crèche I can send you my certificates etc. I will look after your child while you get a treatment in the salon and then pop back to the playgroup when you’re finished 💗
For birthday parties and full reptile encounters, get in touch. We will also be starting a Weekend Monthly Youth club for older children a safe space to come and learn about all the creatures, make some new friends and hopefully spark interests in becoming vets! (Especially specialist reptile vets - which are few and far between!)

Chad is a rehome not a rescue, I feel I need to be clear on this, as to rescue something, is a whole different story. Chad came from someone who loved him but who also knew, due to their up coming work commitments, Chads long life would be more enriched with us (we also have 2 monitors from the same previous owner!). Since his arrival, he has been the utmost gentleman, if we are in the shelter, he free roams he seems to not bother or be bothered by the other residents, he interacts with us all and gently with the children stays very still, there has been no charging of anyone, although there was the odd hiss and tail whip when he first arrived and I had to pick him up, he now allows me to pick him up to place him back into his enclosure and seems to understand. This is his winter enclosure, we have been donated a huge dog kennel which will be drilled onto the side of the shed so when it gets warmer he can roam a bit outside and sniff the plants and then go back inside if he wants to! The reason I’ve been worried about posting about him is because he’s so wonderful that I worry others will go out and get them as babies, these giants are an endangered species (I’ve applied for a CITES certificate for him) they are big, they absolutely 💯 need close attention, from what I can gather he really, really does love it, he’s happy to be stroked and genuinely seems to thrive on human company. Please remember I changed my life so that this is what I do full time, I can give them that full attention, if you get one, you have to make sure you can look after them, build a huge enclosure, socialise them, give them attention they deserve. Please think before you buy ‘pets’ so many come to me because they get too big or aggressive. Rhino iguanas are known for being docile but each one is different....#chadleytherhinoiguana #rhinoiguana #iguanasofinstagram #iguanasofinsta #rhinoiguanasofinsta #chad #chadley #beauty #beautiful #thecosmosexplained #authorcharlesliu #scien
Yesterday, we popped over to the neighbours (and great, great, friends/extended family 💝) with a little Boxing Day treat! It was the chinchillas first outing, a bit sooner than I would have expected but quite honestly they behaved PERFECTLY and we literally passed them over the fence in carry boxes, so they didn’t have to travel far. Belle the Iguana is so precious I could cry and the other more seasoned reptile encounter residents took it all in their stride! I always love it when the kids bond with the skinks they are such funny looking creatures (sausages with teeny legs!) and they get the big oooooo’s and ahhhhhhs! If you’re interested in booking an encounter to your home or preferred setting, you can follow the private @the_dragon_shelter_encounters page to gauge what parties and school visits are like....#boxingday #christmas #christmastreats #happy #activitiesforkids #fun #reptiles #iguana #iguanaofinstagram #meetingtheneighbours #neveradullmoment #overthehedge@annaimilo @richardbutler926
A little fun story for all my little school encounter children! To keep updated on the real life Leo (have your kids seen the cartoon Netflix film?) check out @the_dragon_shelter on Instagram! Next Year, if he stays as good natured, I might even bring him to meet you at one of my encounters! All encounters I do are to support the reptile shelter (there are 3 furries too now!) please also follow Jodie’s work Fripps Farm Animal Rescue honestly when I visited yesterday I was utterly amazed by her round the clock solid care for all animals, from the Deer that come in injured, to the horses who need rehabilitating, to a bearded dragon amputee, a girl after my own heart, little did we know when we met 24 years ago, we’d spend our 40’s covered in mud!
So excited to introduce my next children in encounters to these two. From Chloe’s Exotics (Instagram) she rescues snakes rehabilitates them and finds them homes… or their homes find them. Before I owed a snake (Tyrone and he was purely by chance) I was terrified. How wrong I was, ball pythons are, mostly, docile creatures, they react well to the environment they are in and DO definitely build a ‘snakey’ trust in their owners. I asked someone, will I bond with a snake? Will they know me?! Yes they do, obviously environment is a huge factor, it’s very evident that Chloe has brought up some incredible snakes. Now if she could just come and take my kids too that would be fantastic 🤪😉💗🐍🐍🐍
