We’ve been involved in something very special over the past few months! 💕🐾

We have known Zombie and Ninja since they were eight weeks old, so we were all very excited when Ninja came to see us in February for a pregnancy scan. This confirmed that she was pregnant, and we guessed at least 3-4 puppies from the scan.

A few weeks later, eight puppies were born! Vet Holly and PCA Filipa visited the puppies after 48 hours for their initial health checks, and to check over mum Ninja and make sure she was okay ❤️‍🩹

Eight weeks later, the whole litter came in to see vet Tana for their first vaccines and microchips. The puppies were all thriving and had grown from 500g to 5kg!!! Seven have now found new homes, and the eighth will be staying with his mum and dad 💕

It has been so lovely for our team to be involved from the first scan right through to their final check up before going to their new homes. Ninja and Zombie’s owners have done a brilliant job with this litter; they were in regular contact with us on the day the puppies were born, supervised them constantly for the first couple of weeks, made sure they were all wormed, chipped and vaccinated at the right times and then found responsible homes for all of them 🐕🐾

Having a litter of puppies takes a lot of time, financial costs and emotional investment. If you are thinking about breeding your dog, you are always welcome to contact us with any questions 📞🤍

☀️HOT WEATHER WARNING☀️

It is currently very hot in our practice, especially in our reception area 🥵

Please bear this in mind when arriving for your appointment, and try not to arrive too early to minimise the time spent waiting in reception. You are also welcome to wait outside the practice if preferred.

If you have a flat faced pet, we would strongly recommend booking an early morning appointment, and consider delaying routine appointments until the weather cools down a bit ❄️☁️

We have sadly had a deceased kitten brought in to us: she is mostly white with several black spots and estimate 9-10 weeks old. No microchip.

Please contact us if you are missing a kitten matching this description. We will keep her here for 7 days and then arrange a cremation if no owner is found 🕊️🤍

Please make sure you are checking your dog for grass seeds after every walk during summer🌿

These seeds can easily get stuck in a dog’s coat, and their spiky shape means that they will work their way further into the fur and even under the skin. This will cause pain, swelling and infection and may require surgery.

Signs that your dog may have a grass seed include:
🌿 Shaking the head
🌿 Itching/rubbing the ears or eyes
🌿 Chewing or licking a paw
🌿 A red, swollen area of skin that might be hot or painful to touch
These signs will often start soon after a walk in a park or meadow.

Grass seed injuries can be prevented by checking your dog over after every walk. Areas to focus on include between the toes, around the eyes, ears and mouth and any areas with longer fur 🌿

Elena is our latest Braveheart ❤️ She went missing from her garden, but was found six weeks later trapped in a nearby basement! She was very dehydrated and had lost 40% of her body weight. Her owners think she must have survived on rainwater as there was no other access to food or water 😢

Elena came in today for her second check up since she returned home. We are very happy that she’s now almost back to her normal weight and is doing well ❤️❤️

Please contact us if your cat needs a microchip🤍

Cat microchipping became mandatory in England this week, all owners have until 10th June 2024 to microchip their cat and they must be microchipped before they reach 20 weeks. Microchipping gives the best chance of reuniting a lost cat with their owner.

To find out more about microchipping your cat or kitten, read here: https://bit.ly/3lm0Afm

Has your cat got a primordial pouch? 🐈

The primordial pouch is a loose flap of skin which runs along the length of the cat’s belly, but is most pronounced towards the rear. It can often be seen swaying from side to side when the cat walks or trots.
Pet owners often attribute the primordial pouch to weight gain, but it is common on cats of all shapes and sizes, even slim ones.
The primordial pouch acts as a protection to the internal organs during a fight or attack. If you have ever seen cats in a fight, you may have noticed that they often kick each other with their hind legs and their sharp claws, which could potentially damage these vital organs.

Our Story

Medivet Clerkenwell Animal Hospital opened in 2011 as Clerkenwell Animal Hospital along with a sister practice in Bloomsbury on Gray’s Inn Road, which opened in 2016.

Clerkenwell and Bloomsbury have since joined forces with Medivet to continue bringing you top notch service at competitive prices. Clerkenwell and Bloomsbury branches are, first and foremost, local veterinary clinics, offering caring and comprehensive treatment for dogs, cats, rabbits, and other domestic pets.

However we at Clerkenwell offer a 24 hour, 365 day per year emergency service so you have peace of mind that your pets are safe and well with us, whatever the time of day.

The opening times on our page and website reflect our general consultation times. For appointments outside of these hours, an additional ‘out of hours’ fee may be charged. Our phone lines are manned by our team of client care assistants who are happy to take your calls to book appointments, order medications and for general advice between 8am and 8pm every day.
