Today is the LAST DAY to join Settled Summer, my 2 week programme where I’ll teach you and your dog my favourite settle technique. ☀️🕶️⛱️🐾🐶
Settled Summer runs Monday 29th July until Sunday 11th August.
Would you like to be able to take your dog with you to the park, your favourite cafe, the beach, the pub, or even in the car for a road trip - but right now you’re not able to, because it’s just too much??
Imagine a Summer full of chilled trips out to enjoy the sunshine (hopefully - I can’t do much about the weather, but I CAN help you understand how to soothe and settle your dog, so you can enjoy it to its fullest!).
What the programme includes:
🐾 1 x LIVE welcome call with me - 30 mins (on Monday 29th July, from 5.30-6pm)
🐾 1 x pre-recorded Training video - 45 mins, that you can watch in your own time
🐾 1 x LIVE closing call with me for your Q&As - 60 mins (on Thursday 8th August, from 5.30-6.30pm)
🐾 2 weeks chat support with me on Telegram, to share videos of your practice with your dog and get feedback

Number #41 in 💥50 Things to teach a Sighthound💥is Ask for strokes!
It all began in Norway. I was in Bergen in 2019 for the ISAE applied ethology (behaviour) conference. We went on a boat trip along the seafront and I had a conversation with a behaviourist Alex from Brazil.
He told me how he had published about teaching his dogs to speak (long before the speak buttons existed!) using keys on a keyboard at first. But then he moved to ‘functional behaviour’, where in their everyday lives he his dogs learned how they could ask for anything they wanted using their behaviour - their voice.
I already knew the importance of choice and consent for animals to feel safe, so this was the best advice to apply it in everyday life.
As soon as I got home I taught this to my greyhound Del as he was sensitive to handling since adopting him and he wanted strokes to be when he initiated it.
He took to waving his paw immediately and we have used it ever since!!
Now I’ve been teaching it to my 2 year old daughter who is learning to check for our dog’s consent to stroke or touch him by looking out for him waving his paw and stopping if he doesn’t ask for more. It really is a magical tool ✨

If you want support with your dog’s reactivity - barking, lunging, growling or snapping at other dogs - then my signature programme is for you!
We start on 24th June for 6 weeks, with an online supportive group and weekly challenges to keep you on track, all while getting personalised support for your dog from me AND practical tips to use on your walks.
DM me the word REACTIVE for all the details 🐕🐾
A problem hidden in plain sight 😢 Noise sensitivity, when a dog responds to noises by barking, running away, hiding or other signs such as pacing and panting is such a common issue.
It can have a very serious impact on your dog and your wellbeing, with dogs barking excessively, refusing to go for walks at all, being at risk of bolting and getting lost or hurt on a walk, or becoming shut down.
If your dog is showing signs of noise sensitivity, get them checked by a vet with a full MOT before working with an accredited behaviourist to help overcome the fear that has developed.
Follow for more hints and tips on dog behaviour 🐶
Is my dog fearful, frustrated, or something else? There are lots of different reasons behind dogs showing challenging behaviour on a walk.
These can include:
🐶 Fear
🐶 Frustration - want to decrease distance
🐶 Frustration - want to increase distance
🐶 Pain or discomfort
🐶 Guarding a resource
🐶 Learned behaviour
How we approach helping a dog experiencing one or more of these emotions depends on the severity of the behaviour, the goals for them and their guardian’s lifestyle and the environment they live in.

Happy endings for Abby and Red ❤️
See Red's story after completing my Reactivity Relief programme last June. I love getting long term updates from dogs to hear how they are doing now!
He overcame his 'red zone' towards other dogs (over threshold behaviours which can be growling, snapping, lunging barking or biting in some dogs) and is now making friends - even with the types of dog he used to be afraid of.
This was all through online group behaviour support!
Our second round of Reactivity Relief is well underway!
If you'd like 1-1 support for your dog's reactivity book a call at the link in my bio 📲

What's on your dog's wishlist for ✨️2024✨️ this holiday season? 🎄❄️☃️
It's not what you feel the expectations are as a dog guardian of what you SHOULD be doing!
- Your dog doesn't need two walks to the park every day, they want to walk where they can relax
- Your dog doesn't need to be able to go offlead anywhere, they need to feel safe and loved by you
- Your dog doesn't want to meet all new dogs and people (and be touched by them!), they want you to be their advocate for who they meet and on their terms of being ready!
What else is on your dog's wishlist? Share with us below 👇🏽

It shouldn't feel embarrassing to need to seek help for your dog's behaviour. I believe it should be as normal as taking them to the vet, dog walker, puppy trainer, or the groomer when they need to!
Their mental wellbeing matters (as does yours!) so seeking help from a qualified professional is a necessary part of many dogs' lives.
Especially when they have been through a major life change, such as rehoming, moving house, welcoming a new family member or pet, they had a traumatic experience, or are showing new behaviours that are challenging to deal with.

Recall is #23 in 💥50 Things to teach a Sighthound 💥 A recall cue word such as 'Come' is important for EVERY dog to learn, whether or not they will be let off the lead!
Sure it can be harder for sighthounds to learn recall to start with, if they have a strong prey drive or are from a rescue background and havent learned it before. But they can learn too with the right environment - set them up to succeed and use plenty of positive reinforcement.
How is your dogs recall?! 💨🐕🐾

Number 22 in 💥50 Things to teach a Sighthound💥 is Muzzle! Muzzles are a fantastic tool to give you peace of mind that your dog can't cause any harm.
They also usually encourage others to give your dog the space they crave! Basket muzzles are kindest as they allow room for your dog to pant and you can feed treats through them!
Muzzles are great for..
✅️ Dog reactive dogs
✅️ Stranger reactive dogs
✅️ Rescue ex-racing or hunting dogs
✅️ Scavengers
✅️ High prey drive dogs
✅️ Touch sensitive dogs
✅️ Precaution around visitors or children
✅️ ANY dog who gets injured or ill and needs a vet
