The Groomers Spotlight Transparent directory of grooming professionals who have achieved industry recognised qualifications. (see website for T's and C's).

The Groomers Spotlight aims to highlight individual dog groomers that have achieved the full professional level 3 City and Guilds Diploma, The OCN West Midlands Grooming Qualification and The IPG Qualification. According to our survey, the majority of the public think that pet grooming is regulated and take it for granted that their groomer is fully qualified. This is unfortunately not the case. T

he Groomers Spotlight will direct you to your nearest Fully Qualified grooming individual and will give you a choice of whom to book in with and where to go for your pets specific needs. It will also give qualified groomers a platform to advertise themselves in a professional way and to add value to their work as they will be reachable wherever they work as long as they keep their profile up to date. Each spotlight member will have an individual membership number and profile page where they can tell you all about their strengths and achievements. It ticks so many boxes and we think it will help professionalise the industry and give kudos to those that have worked so hard to gain their full professional qualification.

Cold weather can be tough on our pets, especially their paws and pads. ❄️🐾

Snow and ice can dry out their pads, causing cracks and soreness. Plus, hair in their pads can collect debris and snowballs mixed with grit, which can freeze and make walks really uncomfortable.

Keeping the hair in their pads regularly trimmed by your qualified spotlight groomer helps prevent discomfort and makes spotting issues much easier. Let’s keep those winter walks comfy for our furry friends.💙

 After softening the dirt around the eyes in the bath, use a flea or fine-toothed comb to gently ease it out. Follow up with a thorough wash for perfect prep! This small extra step transforms the trim—after all, the eyes are what owners notice most! 👀💖

Top Tips for Winter Walks with your Dog 🐕

🍂Winter walks are a great way to keep your dog active and their joints mobile, but cold weather calls for extra care:

Know their limits:
Small breeds, seniors, and dogs not used to the cold may struggle when temperatures drop below 7°C. Always consider their age, size, breed, and acclimatisation. 
Pick warmer times:
Opt for walks during mid-morning or early afternoon when it’s less chilly. 
Wrap them up:
A comfortable, well-fitted coat can help keep your dog warm and dry on walks. 
Shorten walks:
Limit outdoor time to prevent your dog’s body temperature from dropping too low. Play indoor games to make up for less time outside. 
Protect paws:
Ice and snow can hurt their paws. Check for ice balls, and clean or towel-dry their paws after walks. 
No snow snacks:
Snow may contain harmful chemicals like antifreeze or bacteria.

🍄A reminder to watch out for toxic mushrooms and toadstools!

Many wild mushrooms and toadstools are highly toxic to dogs, and even experts struggle to tell safe ones apart. Keep your pup safe by ensuring they don’t have access to any wild fungi.

Signs of poisoning include:

• Drooling
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Weakness, lethargy, or disorientation
• Tremors, seizures, or stumbling
• Abnormal heartbeat or breathing
• Yellow gums/eyes

If your dog eats a mushroom or toadstool, contact your vet immediately.

This weeks word is 👉🏻 “Polyuria”

Polyuria means the body is making more urine than normal, which often leads to polydipsia (last week’s term), where dogs drinks more water to stay hydrated. 💦

Excessive urination in dogs can be due to health conditions that make them extra thirsty. If you notice a dog needing more frequent potty breaks, polyuria might be the reason.🐶

As groomers, we can help these pups stay comfortable by offering extra water breaks and letting them off the grooming table to relieve themselves as needed.❤️
