Hackney City Farm provides the opportunity for children and the local community to experience farming

For Nearly 30 years, Hackney City Farm has been giving the local community the opportunity to experience farming right in the heart of the city. It offers an opportunity for children and adults to get up close to a range of farmyard animals and to learn about where their food comes from and why that matters. We host volunteers from the community as well as corporate groups and provide team-building experiences. Also a unique training, workshop, meeting and launch venue.

🌲 Christmas trees are great treat for goats 🐐
💊 They contain lots of great nutrients like vitamin c which is beneficial to good gut health 🪱 They are also a natural de-wormer and contain antioxidants

🎄 If you bought a tree from us this year you can drop it back off at us and it will be used as fun foraging treats or chipped to path our gardens 🪵

🦆 Ducks and especially chickens love having a sunbath. If you see one all strung out looking almost dead, they’re probably just soaking up the rays 🐓

🌲 Christmas Trees from this weekend! 🎄
🤶🏼For those eager Christmas beavers we’ve got our trees on sale from Saturday.
🎅 All proceeds go back to the running of the farm and its animals.

Birdie’s piglets are 3 weeks old and growing so fast! The babies have just started showing interest in mums food. Piglets can eat solid food as early as 3 weeks old. We’ll be open tomorrow from 10am-4.30pm. Pop down and take a peek at these little sweeties.

🎥 As we prepare to tell the story of Hackney City Farm, we’re reaching out to the wider community to gather memories, stories, and photos from those who have been a part of our journey. Whether you’ve visited the farm as a child, volunteered, worked with us or a partner organisation or simply have a treasured memory from any time over the last 40 years, we’d love to hear from you. Your submissions may be featured in the upcoming film.

We invite all members of the public to contribute by submitting:

● Photos: Historic or recent snapshots from your time at the Farm
● Memories: Short stories or reflections on how Hackney City Farm has impacted your life
● Experiences: Special moments or events you recall that have taken place at the Farm
The film will reflect on Hackney City Farm from its founding in 1984 to the present day. With the voices and experiences of the people who’ve helped shape it, this film will serve as both a celebration and a historical record.

🖍️ Lucky our ram with his new Raddle on 🐏

🎨 Although lucky is a very good artist this crayon on his front is used for other purposes, it marks which ewe he has served/mated.

⏰ His leather harness will get changed with another colour in about 17 days, which is a ewes cycle. Unless he can get them all on their first.

🔁 This indicates to farmers which ones were served at what time and can change the amount of feed they get throughout their pregnancy. 🤰 They need the right balance to give birth to healthy lambs. It also saves money for farmers on how much grass or feed they get.

🤓He’s had it on for about a week and we can see he’s served 3, 2 more to go lucky!

3 naughty little pea chicks have been born 🐣
Three little chicks hatched over this week, sex’s still yet to be known but we think it’s 2 females and 1 male.
🦚 They will stay inside for a few weeks until they get strong enough to go.
