British Veterinary Association - BVA

British Veterinary Association - BVA BVA is the national representative body for veterinary surgeons in the UK.

We guide our members throughout their careers, from student to retirement, with the support and knowledge they need to achieve their goals, and to speak up for them on the issues that matter most. We are the only UK veterinary association that looks after the interests of all vets in all disciplines. Our members are at the heart of everything we do and, with the power of more than 19,000 members behind us, we’re able to provide a voice to represent members and services to support them.

We’re extremely saddened by the news that BVA Past President Professor Simon Doherty has passed away.

A highly respected and internationally recognised expert in his field, Simon was a passionate advocate of the role of vets in championing sustainability.

As BVA President from 2018 – 2019, he brought this passion for sustainability and One Health to the top of BVA’s agenda.

Simon was an inspiration to everyone he met and who worked alongside him, and would always make time to support the next generation of vets.

Our thoughts are with Simon’s family, friends and colleagues at this sad and difficult time.

While visiting for a routine check-up, vets discovered an abdominal mass weighing 1.7kg in eight-year-old springer spaniel Moss.

Moss underwent surgery at Bromyard Vets to remove the mass, which could have become life-threatening if left for longer. Thanks to the incredible care of the vet team and his owners, he's made a full recovery.

Moss's owners and the vet team are keen to emphasise the benefits of regular health checks for pets.
