“It’s me, Yuki! Here to remind you that I am still available for adoption (and to ensure that you’re up to date on your cat pals’ health exams!).

Here I am getting a very thorough inspection. If you need a little help remembering these things, consider signing up for the Feline Fine Health Care Plan. It’s a good way to save money and keep on top of important appointments and vaccinations.

Contact the clinic to learn more about the plan (or me)”.

“That’s right, Humphrey, it’s Ginger Cat Appreciation Day! 🧡

Like all of our patients, Humphrey is a VIC (Very Important Cat) and is lucky enough to have Dr Jeremy as a cat dad.

Humphrey was on his best behaviour here for his comprehensive check-up, which included a senior blood test 🐾

Did you know these facts about ginger cats?…🐈

various cultures, ginger cats are considered symbols of good luck. In ancient Egypt, they were even associated with the lioness goddess Sekhmet.
male ginger cat can only be born from a mother who is ginger, calico, or tortoiseshell. While a female ginger cat requires both a ginger father - and a mother who is ginger, calico, or tortoiseshell.

What do you mean summer’s almost over? But we have at least another sunny week on the horizon? That’s good! ☀️

As we enjoy these final summer days, here are some quick tips to keep your cat pals safe 🐈‍⬛:

1. : Cats with pale fur or white noses/ears can easily get sunburnt. Use cat-friendly sun cream and provide shady spots.
2. : Extra water is essential. Place bowls in shaded areas and refresh them often.
3. : Ensure plenty of shade in your garden, and keep your home cool by closing curtains on sunny sides.
4. : Don’t leave food out for more than 45 minutes to avoid attracting insects.
5. : Use fans, air conditioning, and open windows on the shady side to keep your home cool.
6. : Regular grooming helps remove excess fur that traps heat. Your cat may groom more often to stay cool.
7. : Cats with flat faces, like Persians, are more prone to heat stroke. Keep an eye on them in hot weather.

Let’s make the most of this sunshine while keeping our feline friends safe and comfortable! 🐾

It’s Black Cat Appreciation Day - featuring Artie! 📸 Pictured here with his cat dad Dr Jeremy.

Over the centuries, black cats have been both revered and misunderstood. From ancient Egyptian worship to medieval myths, their reputation has swung between sacred and sinister.

These days, they are often the last to be adopted in animal shelters. Today, let’s set the record straight: black cats are far from unlucky. They are some of the most loving companions! 🐈‍⬛

Let’s celebrate their unique charm and work to change the narrative. 🖤

Psst, are you hydrated? Make sure your kitty is too! With the August heat, it’s crucial to keep your feline friend well-hydrated. 🚰🐈‍⬛ Here’s how:

their water bowl daily. Cats prefer fresh, clean water, so offer them a new bowl each day.

bowls in different spots around the house. Cats like having multiple drinking options, so ensure there’s always water available nearby.

the right type of bowl. Opt for ceramic or glass bowls, as they’re less likely to affect the taste of the water. Cats generally prefer wide, shallow bowls that allow them to drink comfortably.

a water fountain. Many cats are drawn to running water and might drink more if they have a fountain.

Keep an eye out for signs of dehydration, like sticky gums, slow skin return, sunken eyes, or cool paws. If you spot any of these, contact your vet promptly. -The London Cat Clinic 🐾

🐾 Little Yuki is in search of a forever home! 🏠

In April, Yuki was discovered in a garden, unable to walk and in severe distress. X-rays revealed a fractured hip and a fully luxated tail, likely from a road accident or an encounter with a fox or dog. He received continuous care, pain relief, and multiple surgeries at the clinic, including a tail amputation and treatment for necrotic skin.

Against all odds, Yuki pulled through and found solace in a foster home with our nurse Georgia, who guided him through his recovery. He’s now healthy, gaining weight, and brimming with affection. 🐱💕

Yuki is incredibly playful, enjoying toys like mice and balls. He loves to cuddle and keep laps warm, and will eagerly greet you at the door.

If you think you can provide a loving home for this wonderful boy, please reach out to Protected Paws Animal Rescue Registered charity 1202369 for more information.

⚠️🐈‍⬛ High Rise Syndrome: As the days get warmer, it’s important to address this lesser-known danger.

Despite the common belief that cats always land on their feet, the reality is much more complex.

🪟Why Do Cats Fall from Heights? With urban living on the rise, more cats are confined to flats and high-rise buildings, often without access to the outdoors. Despite efforts to enrich their indoor environment, open windows or balconies pose a significant risk. Young, playful cats are particularly prone to falls, especially in warmer climates with open windows or in cities with high-rise living.

🩺 Injuries Sustained: Cats can suffer broken bones, ligament damage, and internal trauma, even from seemingly minor falls. It’s crucial for all cats involved in falls to receive prompt veterinary attention to assess and treat any injuries, including less visible internal damage.

High-rise syndrome can be preventable with proactive safety measures:

open windows with limiters or mesh barriers designed to keep cats safe.
balconies with sturdy nets and barriers to prevent falls.
any furniture that could grant cats access to elevated open windows.

Today is ! A reminder to learn about and implement safety measures that can help prevent pet-related fires and keep our feline friends safe during emergencies.

Cats, being natural explorers, often require extra precautions to protect them from fire hazards.

* Supervise Open Flames: Cats are curious about flickering flames, so opt for flameless candles with bulbs to eliminate risks.

* Fireproof Your Home: Secure appliances like stoves and curling irons to prevent playful paws from causing accidental fires. Consider using stove k**b covers for added safety.

* Emergency Preparedness: Keep collars, leashes, and carriers handy near the door for swift evacuations during emergencies.

* Pet Identification: Ensure your cats are microchipped and wearing collars with current tags. This ensures they can be quickly reunited with you if they wander during a fire.

* Inform Firefighters: Place a clear sign on your front door indicating the types and number of pets inside to assist rescue efforts.

Let’s ensure our feline friends stay safe and sound. A message from your friends at The London Cat Clinic.

“The London Cat Clinic is a Gold Standard Cat-Friendly Clinic designed for our comfort and tranquillity!

Beyond essential routine care like the Feline Fine Health Care Plan, they offer a full spectrum of specialised services such as Advanced Dentistry, Ophthalmology, Acupuncture, and Internal Medicine (no need for me to travel any further for additional procedures!).

It’s clear they understand us cats here, and excel at providing a serene, dog-free environment where our health and happiness comes first”.

“That was exhausting - time for a nap.”

I wonder what these two were talking about. Meet Loki and Zola 📸 a very lovely bonded pair. Perhaps planning their post-vet activities?

Cats are often seen as solitary, but some thrive with a feline friend. Why is a bonded pair so special?

✨Enhanced Social Development: Cats learn and develop better social skills by watching and imitating each other.
✨Easier transitions: New environments are less stressful with a familiar companion, reducing anxiety.
✨Reduced boredom: Bonded pairs have a constant playmate, preventing boredom and destructive behaviour.

Not all cats that live together are bonded. Some might just tolerate each other or even experience tension. Cats can be territorial, and sharing space can sometimes lead to stress.

Signs of happy bonded cats include grooming, rubbing against each other, and sleeping together.

Tips for helping cats live peacefully together:

✨Plenty of resources: Each cat should have their own food and water bowls, bed, litter tray, and hiding places.
✨Separate resources: Place resources in quiet, safe areas, not busy or shared spaces.
✨Hiding and climbing spots: Provide boxes and cat trees to ensure vertical space in narrow areas.
✨Pheromone diffusers: Use products like Feliway Friends to help cats feel calm and secure.
✨Individual playtime: Spend time playing with each cat to encourage natural behaviour and reduce stress.

Understanding your cats’ behaviour and providing a supportive environment can help them live peacefully together. Ask our team for more tips during your next visit to The London Cat Clinic.
