Ukraine Appeal Update

Our fundraising appeal to help the people and pets of Ukraine has raised £4,432 in just five days.
Thank you to everyone who has supported our appeal for the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal and Ukraine’s shelter animals through the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW).

Here’s some handy firework tips for tonight:
🎆 Create background noise and close the curtains - Moderately loud rhythmic music with a good beat can help to mask fireworks.
🎆 Beware escape routes – Make sure your home is secure before the fireworks start.
🎆 Be conscious of your own behaviour – Respond in a calm and passive way, as
fussing over them can heighten their emotional state.

When it’s hot weather, keep an eye on your pet’s feet: cats and dogs only have sweat glands on their paws, so wet paw prints could mean they’re sweating more than normal and will need more water to stay hydrated.

HOT CAR + DOG = DIAL 999

Did you know that when it’s 22° outside, the temperature inside a car can reach an unbearable 47°? Unlike humans, dogs can’t sweat through their skin, and they can overheat incredibly quickly so NEVER leave dogs in a hot car, even for a few minutes.

If you have a tiled or slate floor, make some room for your snoozing pets. Cats, dogs, even rabbits and guinea pigs will appreciate having something cool to lie on. Make it an even better space to ‘chill’ in by adding an electric fan to circulate cool air during those long Summer days!

COVID-19 and Pets

You may have seen the news article about COVID-19 in pets. It is important to remember:​

💡 This is one small research study.​

💡 Some of the pets, which were all healthy, belonging to owners with confirmed infection with the Covid-19 virus, showed some antibodies in their blood which suggests they have been exposed to the virus.​

💡 There is no evidence to suggest transmission of the Covid-19 virus from cats and dogs to humans.​

​In line with general public health guidance on coronavirus, you should wash your hands before and after being around or handling animals or their food.​
​
And if you have confirmed or suspected Covid-19, it is advisable to have minimal contact with your pet.​

FOOD RECALL

Cat Food from Applaws, Pets at Home AVA range and Sainsbury’s ranges has been recalled.

Following reports from the Food and Veterinary authorities of serious health related issues in cats that could be related to diet, Fold Hill Foods Ltd has issued a recall of some of its cat food products as a precaution.
