Today is Sandy and Rusty's birthday.
7 years ago, they were born on a construction site and their mother was killed by a dog sortly after giving birth. We took them in and was planning to rehome them. But everyone wanted Rusty the ginger boy but not sandy and mandy. They just lost their mother and we did not want to separate them so we adopted all 3.
The youngest sister Mandy passed away last year so this year is the first time they celebrated a birthday without Mandy.
We hope mandy is enjoying her time with her mummy and to let her mummy know Rusty and Sandy are safe and happy.

Today is Rebecca's birthday. She is Baby Gus mummy.
When she was rescued, she was also tested FeLV+. After retest she became negative and as adopted her because we want mother and child to be united.
Rebecca is a very shy and reserved cat. When she arrived, she was so stressed she refused to move. Now, she is a very happy mother cat to baby Gus. She is also extremely caring. This week, when Rabbit had to go for dental, she sat next to rabbit to assure him.

We also have a belated birthday for Julie.
Julie is the only cat we successfully fought of cancer because it was discovered very early.
We are okay with her not having the ear flap. Her hearing is not affected and it is more important that she is cancer free.
Julie has been a super sweet girl since she arrived. The cats love her and when she sees new cats, she will reach out to them to make them feel assured and welcome. We love julie and we are extremely proud of her!
Happy birthday, precious Julie.

This is Jill. Such a sweet girl.
She has kidney failure and was a community cat all her life.
Once she came to us, she discovered how comfortable to sleep on a bed and she loves it.
We were able to hug her too and that it very easy for us to medicate and subcut her.
We told her she is such a sweet and adorable girl. And everyone loves her!

When animals are rescued, they become part of the rescuer's value system and may end up being put down even if they can recover.
That is why this year's Vesak theme is animals as fellow beings. This means we treat the rescued animals with respect and as fellow beings. The approach is to offer them support to get well or be comfortable, not as a "rescue" that we do as we please.
This video for Vesak 2024 explains it.

To celebrate Vesak Day, our message for 2024 is Animals as Fellow Beings. We promote the idea of seeing animal as sentiment beings who has feelings, thoughts...

Our first FeLV+ rescue was Rahula. He recuperated after we rescued him, he lived for another 8 months, and passed away of cancer.
When he was leaving, we told him not to worry about us and to let go of his body. We also tell him we will always love and never forget him.
So when our rescue friends rescued several FeLV cats, we decided to set up a FeLV sanctuary and we named it Rahula FeLV Sanctary in memory of Rahula. We love him and we miss him and the best way to honour him is to rescue other FeLV cats in his memory.

Rahula FeLV Sanctuary was set up in 2020. 2 years have passed by and we take a look at what we have done, our hopes, and revisit the initial motivation to se...

Gold-D wet food and treats are all carrageenan-free.
Recently, we stopped the jelly range because the supplier of carrageenan-free ingredients discontinued it. We have found a new supplier and are evaluating it now.
We have many FIV and FeLV cats and they have a higher chance of cancer. But it is an ingredient that no animals should be exposed to because cancer is usually not reversible by the time we discover it.
We mention carrageenan-free on all of our labels.

Author Ingrid King, who is also a former veterinary hospital manager and veterinary journalist, has expressed concern over the presence of carrageenan.

Happy birthday Tamasan! We are so happy to celebrate her 12th birthday. Nine years ago, she was thrown out on the street and was so stressed and hungry. Our friend rescued her, and we adopted her. Since that day, she has become a very sweet, loving, and caring cat. We are so happy to celebrate her birthday today.
This was how frightened she was when rescued: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/-mPMjs5VtS4

Vet bills pile up very fast. But if that is what it take for them to get well so be it. Not sure if you remember Harry?
He is a FIV and FeLV+ cat we took in. When he first saw the vet, it was so gloomy. He had parasites all over him, there was concern of cancer and his overall outlook was bad.
He was hospitalized for about a month before we could bring him back. Lots of love, lots of care, and he began to get well.
Harry has a very special magic around him. He makes people feel very happy. We had lots of happy moments with him. This was when we celebrated his birthday. See his happy face.
Some FeLV+ cats have a short life and we cant change that. But what we can do is to make sure his last days are always full of love and happiness.

This is Sawyer T. Rabbit, our cat CEO.
Rabbit is FIV+ and a community cat. In 2019, he was found by a rescue group and they wanted to put him down because they felt he looked very sick and dying. We are against convenience euthanasia so we adopted him. It took a while before he warmed up to us and he bloom into a very adorable, happy and healthy cat.
Today, we are so happy to celebrate his 13 birthday. We got him a longevity peach, a traditional Chinese birthday pastry used for grandparents.
Happy birthday precious Rabbit!

Oh we got news that Rabbit's documentary got an honorable mention for the poster design.

This is a cat we adopted recently. He is FIV+ and lost his eye from a very bad flu. The changes of an adult FIV+ cat blind in an eye is very low so we adopted him.
We don't need a perfect pet but we hope to be the perfect family for him.

In memory of Lavender.
When we take over a new animal, the first few weeks are very important. Need to help them settle down and also follow to to resolve any medical issues.
It is time consuming and can be expensive but extremely important.
In Lavender's case, we need to resolve the swelling on her face. Unfortunately, she passed away after surgery.
We were told she was bullied on the street. When she arrived, she settled in very well and was very happy in her new home with her new siblings.
We tried our best but we lost her. We are grateful for the chance to look after her we love her lots. In memory of a very sweet girl.

We mentioned Rahula Felv Sanctuary many times. That is where we adopt and care for FeLV+ cats. It is named after the first FeLV+ cat we rescued. This is the photo of him that was posted on social media that made us decide to rescue him.
He was very sick and the vet told us to be prepared. He can go anytime. After he arrived, we managed to nurse him back to health.
About 7 months later, he developed cancer.
As his condition deteriorated, we had a chat with him. We told him if we can pay for treatment to cure him, we will do it regardless of the cost. But we dont have that option. When he goes, we will feel very sad but we will be ok so dont worry about us. When he is ready, let go of this body and go to a better place. We will always love him and always remember him. So when we set up the sanctuary, we need it after Rahula.
We feel that is the best way to honour him. And we rescue other FeLV cats in his memory.

Lavender was supposed to go for her review today but in the morning, she passed away.
She was an abandoned cat and was rescued adopted and then abandoned again. And there was a decision to put her down so we quickly adopted her.
She had a swell on her forehead and the vet was worried it is cancer. We took her to the vet to check on that swell. During the surgery, they discovered a cleft palate so surgery was also done on that. The vet put a feeding tube on her to allow the cleft palate surgery to heal. We have been doing the tube feed and she was ok in fact we thought getting better. But today, she left n her sleep.
We are sadden by her departure and we have done everything we need to. It is still sad to lose her.
FYI, the yellow paper is for her smooth transition in the Buddhist tradition. In loving memory of Lavender.

Our latest rescue.
This is Lavender who is FIV+. She was abandoned and looked after by a few feeders. Later, she was sent for surgery and adopted. Within a short time, she was thrown out again. Then strangely, there was news that she will be put down so we adopted her.
She had a swell on her forehead and the vet suspect cancer growth.
This week, the brave girl went for her surgery and the vet found a cleft palate so additional procedure was needed.
The vet now suspect the swell is due to an infection and not likely to be cancer. That was a big relief for us. Today, she was discharged and we are helping her recuperate after a major surgery! Big hug to this brave girl!
