I need your help!
I’m recording the first 6 episodes of my new podcast next week. I’ve some great guests booked incl. soap actors, journalists, psychologists, TV presenters etc
We’ll be delving into their lives with dogs, likes/dislikes, ‘my dog..’ questions & more. I’m sure some episodes will be quite deep, some quite funny and others.. who knows?! We’ll find out once done, I’m new to this game! 🤷

Mucking About:-

Hendrix probably came up with the Voodoo Chile riff when he was just mucking about on his guitar waiting for the kettle to boil.

McCartney definitely came up with Get Back when he was just mucking about in the studio

I bet Jackson Po***ck was a bu**er for mucking about with paint and Picasso was probably just mucking about doodling shapes when someone called it cubism and encouraged him to keep going.

Perhaps mucking about is fine for your bohemians, but it’s not for the proletariat?

Nope, the best individuals in any role; shop keeper, nurse, builder, writer, teacher, cabbie will always be the ones that are the most creative, the ones that aren’t afraid to just muck about and generate a few curious threads, some of which may prove their worth when pulled a little further to see where they go. They’ll go to the treasure that the ones who don’t muck about won’t even know exist.

Blue Sky Thinking and No Such Thing As A Bad Idea? Just mucking about mate.

Why then are school kids scolded and criticised for mucking about? Maybe there’s no need for creativity in the trenches or in the mill and the industrial revolution education systems are just still too slow to kop on.

Mucking about gives us the best scenes in film history “..little known fact, but that whole scene was actually improvised Jemima”

I’m sure that to some free-form jazz is the height of where it’s at man. (it’s not, free form jazz is a mosquito in your room at night but that doesn’t support my position here, so may delete.)

In dog training and behaviour modification we have shaping. Shaping is where the trainer has a desired target behaviour, and they reinforce the dog for any incremental steps towards that final, target behaviour. A little like the hot/cold game we played as kids when our partner would leave the room and we’d come up with a behaviour we’d try to get them to do without instructing them, like sitting on a chair or turning the light switch off. Only allowed to say hot’ or ‘cold’. “…warmer, warmer, waaaarmmer, BOILING HOT! BOILING HOT! YES!”

Free shaping in dog training is similar to shaping, however there’s no particular final target behaviour you’re aiming at from the outset, the trainer just reinforces the dog for trying things, for being positive & proactive. Just a mucking about session. Dogs and Trainers love these sessions as there’s no pressure of expectation and the joy of playing together and reinforcing each other’s’ interaction is enough. You’ll be amazed the impressive behaviours and training standards you’ll reach. Just by free shaping. Just by mucking about.

The dog should never feel like they’re being ‘trained’ during training. They should just feel like they’re mucking about with their best mate. Certain behaviours they stumble upon get treated, and what gets treated gets repeated.

We’re all going to die and at best our legacy has the potential to be ‘had a nice life mucking about with others’. Mucking about and admin.

Go into your mind-palace and the best conversations and laughs you had with your mates growing up grew out of times when you were just mucking about. Those mates are all grown up now, married, moved away.

But you’ve got a dog, and your dog is a walking talking 24/7 mucking about machine, waiting for you to realise.
