Christmas has come early for our rare breed Bagot goats! 🎄✨
Thanks to our friends at Pines and Needles, not only did we receive a donation of beautiful Christmas trees for our Winter Nights at the Zoo event, but we’ve also been able to treat some of our animals to a festive snack!
As you can see, our nanny goats, Pepper, Paprika, Nutmeg, Rosemary LOVE tasty pine needles! 🐐

🐒As proud members of BIAZA, we are part of a network of over 100 zoos and aquariums across Britain and Ireland! Each year, to get into the festive spirit, we take part in their annual secret Santa!
🎄 Senior keeper Lizzy & keeper Jack were joined by Smokey, Dusty and Feather to open our amazing box of goodies, and we couldn’t be more excited! We’re sending a HUGE thank you to our fabulous friends at Tilgate Park for their thoughtful gifts!

🍃 Meet Rico, our handsome prehensile-tailed porcupine! These incredible climbers use their unique tails to grip and support their bodies whilst climbing through the forest canopy in search of leaves, fruits and nuts.
⚠️ Sadly, this species is facing growing threats in the wild, mostly through widespread habitat loss due to human encroachment in their native range. Conservation efforts to protect their natural habitat and increased support of sustainable forestry practices can make a huge difference to conserving this species into the future.

❄️This December, for the very first time, we are opening the gates after hours for you to enjoy the zoo under twinkling lights! Not only will you enjoy exclusive lantern-lit animal talks for the whole family, you’ll listen to an exciting schedule of performances, accompanied by festive mulled wine, warming hot chocolate and delicious BBQ food by Ruffled Truffle ♥️

Taking place on 6th, 13th, and 20th December from 5.30pm to 8.30pm, the zoo will be filled with festive cheer. You will see how the zoo's residents prepare for bedtime and observe their nocturnal habits. You’ll also get to meet and greet the friendly farm animals! 🐐
The seasonal Winter Lodge will host a fun selection of festive crafts, games and activities for all ages.
Each night will feature live bandstand performances that range from choirs and classical quartets to contemporary soloists. There will be plenty of opportunities to sing along to carols and festive tunes.
