🟡 Residential Training 🟡
We have an exclusive space available for HHH residential training.
❔What is Residential Dog Training?
This training is suitable for owners who wants to get basic training nailed-down from the beginning.
🐶 Training a puppy is a daily, continuous process – that teaches the basics of good dog behaviour and sets them up for the best start to a happy and well-socialised life.
🐾We build good habits from start by rewarding wanted behaviours and preventing or ignoring unwanted behaviours. Our aim is to get your pup to present ‘automatic behaviours’. For example: if you open a door or outside gate - we want your pup to automatically “Wait “ before they are allowed to go through. Out and about, we teach our pups to automatically “wait” before we let them say ‘hi’ to other new dogs - giving you control to select safe dogs for your pup to socialise with.
🐾 Our typical residential training clients are have busy lives and need guidance in working with their pups, particularly with more demanding breeds, by starting early we build good behaviour habits for life.
❕We only take on pups for this process, unless we know the dog and have made a safety assessment to be around our young child.
🐕 I specialise in training larger breeds so your Doberman, Rottweiler, or Shepard pup will be in very safe hands. However I equally enjoy working with bouncy Spaniels or other smaller breeds.
❔Why is our Residential Training different?
We invite owners for a weekly training visit - for them to see progress and to practice working with their pup. If a dog is with us for longer we will incorporate weekend visits where your pup stays with you. This gives us an opportunity to discuss if you had any challenges and we can shape our training accordingly.

🟡 Morning Time At HHH 🟡
Good morning!
We take the health & happiness of our hounds seriously. Welcome to our daycare morning routine!
👋🏻 8-10am
🐾 Just before 8am we arrive & start the day by opening up our indoor space to allow fresh air inside, blinds are put down & doors left open to keep the space cool (in winter we put the fire on!)
🐾 Outdoor beds are put down, in summer these are moved around to keep the dogs settled in shade & stay cool
🐾 Water bowls are filled with fresh water, if it’s a sunny morning, also the pool!
🐾 Dogs slowly start to arrive, they are always so happy to see us & their friends!
🐾 As more dogs arrive we incorporate training into our routine; waiting, stop, gate management polite greeting & re call away from gate
🐾 Every morning we disinfect all outdoor surfaces, toys, bowls & any puddles with a dog friendly cleaner F10 to kill any potential nasties
🐾 All lunches are brought to the kitchen & any wet or raw food is put into the fridge
🐾9:30am a third member of staff arrives as we have more dogs by this time
🎾 10-11:30am
🐾 Any washing hung up from the previous day is folded & put away
🐾 Beds are put back into position after floors being washed the previous evening and water bowls are re-filled
🐾 After the last dog arrives for the day we open up the entire site for ball & sniffer games, scent work & agility training.
🐾 Enrichment activities are set up for the day, treats under cups, hide toys around the site & in boxes, navigating/moving objects to get treats out
🐾 Finally a coffee break!
🐾 We water plants & do a bit of gardening & general up-keep of the site as we think of new and fun ideas for the dogs to enjoy the space
😴 11:30-1pm
🐾 Rest time! We have 3 designated rest times throughout the day. Pups learn to settle around distractions and have a nap.
🐾 Coming in for rest is another training opportunity learning polite door manners for entry and exit.

🟡 An Afternoon At HHH 🟡
Ever wondered what happens behind the closed gate? Come and spend an afternoon with us!
🦴 12:30-2pm Lunch Time
🐾 Our doggos come out after the second rest around 12:30 to stretch their legs, have a run while some choose to lounge on bean bags.
🐾 We start to prepare lunches and then feeding. This is another training opportunity for gate management, pups come in one by one, sit, wait & then leave feeding area, our doggos are also practicing all round patience around food prep.
😴 2-3:30 Post Lunch Nap
🐾 We make sure to have plenty of rest times as we do spend a lot of time outside & young puppies need rest. We teach our dogs ‘go to your bed’ to settle around other dogs.
🎾 3:30-5:30 Training & Play
🐾 We open up our entire site for sniffer games, fetch, tug-of-war, agility & general puppy shenanigans.
🐾 We monitor play style & interrupt any rough play. Our young ones will learn this way what is ‘Good Play’ (will be allowed to continue) and ‘Bad Play’ (will be interrupted)
🐾 Working with our central gate for more gate training, which includes practicing “wait”, “stop” & “re-call"
🐾 Dogs on create rest get sniffer boxes, puzzles & separate toilet breaks
🏡 5:30-7 Rest & Home Time!
🐾 In winter & cold weather we go inside for a rest & our collections begin. In summer our dogs will continue to sunbathe in our main garden area.
🐾 Our hounds learn how to rest with distractions around: us cleaning & answering doors.
🐾 All dogs learn (eventually) to stay calm & to come to the door when name is called.
🐾 When we send them through our door or gate it is perfect opportunity for “re-call” training as they run to greet their pawrents. It is very cute for us to see all the love at the end of the busy day 🐶❤️

🦈 Bite Inhibition 🦈
This little shark demonstrates beautifully why it is important to teach your pup a bite inhibition.
🤔 What is it?
Bite inhibition is a dogs ability to control the strength and use of their bite. This is very important to teach them as a young pup, but to also continue training as they develop.
❕Teaching it correctly your dog learns to moderate the strength of its bite so when exited around food, upset or involved in disagreement your dog will effectively only use a soft mouth.

🟡 DEFRA Visits HHH 🟡
Yesterday we had an on-site meeting with DEFRA representatives (Dept for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) and Dame Meg Hillier MP.
We’d like to thank DEFRA for visiting our training daycare and taking the time to listen and acknowledge the plight that Urban Daycares are facing.
🐾 A massive thank you to Meg for joining the meeting and adding her voice to raise awareness of the need for reform in licensing and welfare standards of Urban Dog Daycares.
💛 As usual all of our dogs were PAW-some ambassadors and the HHH Team did an amazing job showing-off our daycare’s best practice — what we do and why we do it!

🐶 Reactivity to Humans Update 🐶
This is Little Miss’ progress after 3 months working on her fear of men. We are almost there. Seeing her to be able to relax with known (and new!) male visitors makes all the hard work worth it.
💛 Well done Little Miss!

🐶 Reactivity to Humans Part 3 of 3 🐶
⚠️This is a big deal – especially if you have a big dog⚠️
Testing a dog’s reaction to people is very difficult to safely assess and to accurately figure-out triggers and thresholds – there are so many variables. So we had to do a bit of detective work and lot of try & test.
Through a series of mini trials we have worked out that Little Miss is LESS reactive/fearful if she meets people in the park and they remain neutral and she is off-lead (which is not surprising - most dog reactivity I see is on-lead), however lots of tests are needed and measures need to be put in place to determine if a fearful dog is safe to be greeting/checking-out people off-leash. The bigger and more powerful the dog the more alert and diligent you have to be even if dogs is muzzled.
👋🏻 Meeting people in a neutral least reactive space is a good start to work under the threshold. The idea is that gradually with each positive encounter we slowly move toward our goal of people being able to safely enter the house. So meeting people in park was much better (definitely not very practical) than meeting people in the street. However crossing from outside to our front garden was another challenge. Street meet-ups resulted in huge reactions when crossing into our gate, park meet-ups less so.
🕵🏻♀️ The next trial was to identify what would happen if a male person is already in the front garden and our dog is able to approach on her terms and then she is sent away to her bed where she knows she will not be approached by any stranger. This is her safe space.
We have been practicing separate commands like “Go to your bed”, “Wait” and “GO” (a release command).
👍🏻 The first trials were consistently positive so we have now worked out a ‘Stranger Danger’ entering protocol that works and we can progress with knowing that her owners will be able to replicate it at their house.
⭐️ Please stay tuned for
🐶 Reactivity to Humans Part 2 of 3 🐶
⚠️ This is a big deal! ⚠️
Testing a dog’s reaction to people is very difficult to safely assess and to accurately figure-out triggers and thresholds. There are so many variables. So we had to do bit of detective work & lot of testing.
We have identified when Little Miss came to board with us that she is reactive to men, indoors and outdoors even if the men remained neutral and ignored her.
😮 We had one surprisingly positive encounter with a fellow dog walker, without a reaction. That led us to try an introduction in the park rather than on the street (where we had strong reactions). Hoping that if the intro goes well entering a house together for a visit will be less of an issue for her.
❗️We have tested men that own dogs and men without dogs to see if that will make a difference in reactions – introduction in the park were mostly positive – almost no reactions.
🏆 Our goal is for her to be able to ignore men on the street and to tolerate house visitors safely, without her becoming stressed. We are not aiming for her to be best friends with strange men or letting just anyone stroke her, although in some scenarios like vet visits, getting over her fears of men would be useful. Our aim is simply for her to be able to relax in a safe/dedicated space in the house without reacting.
To support this we are working on conditioning and desensitisation behaviour modification, simplified: ⚠️trigger appears – 🦴treats appears – while the dog is under reaction threshold. Separately we are working on better obedience, focus and impulse control (controlling overexcitement) in the house and on a walk.
🌟 Mastering command like “Go to your bed”, “Wait” “GO” (a release command) and good “Heel” & “Recall” will help with keeping our dog focused, under control and calmer.
Please stay tuned for our next big breakthrough to follow Little Miss’ amazing progress!
