Student nurse Tora spent some time hand feeding this prickly patient earlier this week. The hedgehog was brought in with another after they were found out in the daytime. Sadly one was found to have an extensive injury and it was kindest to put it to sleep. Apart from a sore nose, this little one was doing well. We transported the hedgehog to Tiggywinkles wildlife hospital
for further care. Good luck little one ๐Ÿฆ”โค๏ธ

Some cuteness this evening ๐Ÿ˜. This gorgeous girl is Pixie (age 5months) belonging to animal carer Gemma and her daughter Keira one of our receptionists.
At just days old little Pixie, as she became known, needed round the clock care and Gemma provided it along with the help of Keira. Not being able to part with Pixie, she is now a permanent member of the family! And look at how beautiful she is! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿค

Last night our staff members Roxy and Lola were driving in the Northolt area and rescued this little dog from a busy road. They took the dog to Mandeville Vets (Goddards). Unfortunately the microchip is not registered to an owner so they will be contacting the dog warden. Please share this post - thank you.
And well done to Roxy and Lola for getting the dog to safety.

In memory of sweet Sasha belonging to head vet Cathy. Sasha enjoyed coming to Arden House each day and getting lots of fuss from us all - belly rubs were her favourite, as were the staff lunchtimes, she'd be ready to hoover up the crumbs! If Sasha wasn't sleeping (and snoring) in the office, we'd find her relaxing in the garden, unless it was raining, in which case there was no getting her to go outside! We will miss you Sashy Sue. ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

๐Ÿฆ It's baby bird season and it's not uncommon to see a fledgling on the ground. These feathered juveniles can be spotted hopping about on the ground or flitting between low shrub branches. The parent birds are usually close by and continue to feed them. Fledging is a natural process as they gradually become independent. Unless they appear injured or have been caught by a cat, they do not need help. Please leave them be. Hatchlings and nestlings found outside of the nest do need help. If you can see the nest and it's safe to do so return them to it otherwise they need to be rescued. For further advice call us or a local wildlife centre.

This sweet hedgehog was recently brought into us after she was found collapsed. Vet Anjali examined her and could find no injuries. She gave her some fluids via an injection under the skin as she was dehydrated and she was kept warm.
At her next check she was looking much better and Anjali had trouble keeping her still! We transported her to Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital so they could continue her care and we are delighted to say that after a stay of 3 days, she was well enough to be released back into the wild. โค๏ธ๐Ÿฆ”

Lovely Loki (age 3yrs) is helping to raise awareness of a Summer hazard - grass seeds (awns). Loki was brought in to see vet Bansri after his owner noticed that he was shaking his head after a walk. He was a good boy and allowed Bansri to look down his ears using an instrument called an otoscope. Bansri could see a grass seed lodged in Loki's left ear canal. He required a short acting anaesthetic to enable Bansri to remove it by using forceps to grasp the seed and extract it. These grass seeds work their way into an ear canal after getting tangled up in fur on the ear flaps.
Grass seeds have a sharp point that can pe*****te the skin after getting caught up in fur. As the animal moves, the grass seed can continue to migrate through the skin and into the tissues underneath. Paws are commonly affected. Eyes and noses are also vulnerable - seeds can get caught under an eyelid or sniffed up a nose.
Please click on the link to read more about these troublesome seeds, signs to look for and how to reduce the risk.
