Teaching puppies to be gentle is a really helpful skill for them to learn, especially whilst they still have their sharp (and shark like 🦈) teefies ✅
In this demonstration with clever Evie, our #PuppySchoolRichmond tutor Kaitlin is helping to shape and reward the desirable behaviour from Evie by ignoring any interaction with her hand (which has a treat in it) and instead is rewarding and praising Evie if she ignores her hand….and is indeed gentle rather shark like! 🙊

Does your puppy get a bit silly when you try and brush them and try and bite the brush? Or maybe they roll over and look a bit scared by it? Both of these things might be an indication that your puppy isn’t yet desensitised to the husbandry item you are using 🐶

Take a look at this video to find out what the most common signs are that your puppy may be giving off in uncomfortable situations - these will help you identify how they are feeling and how you can help them ✅
If you think your puppy is feeling stressed, try not to worry and simply provide them with a safe way of retreating. You can become your puppy’s go to safe place by kneeling down to help them, moving them away and creating distance and space, providing a barrier by using your body or the immediate environment (trees, cars and postboxes are great safe places to create natural barriers between your puppy and a scary situation) or simply by asking people not to crowd your puppy and showing them how your puppy prefers to interact instead.
