At Lee Valley Dog Training School we offer personalised, reward-based training for dogs and their owners throughout London and Hertfordshire. Using our versatile dog training expertise, we are able to train dogs to be more obedient, compete in agility or tracking challenges, protect homes, or even work in the security industry.

Most dogs don’t like to be pet on their head by strangers. Instead, if you want to say hello and you’ve asked their guardian, say hello verbally and allow the dog to choose if they want to be pet. If they come closer for a sniff, leave your hand at your side. Allow them to sniff and initiate a pet, then pet their side behind their shoulders and stop. If they want more, they’ll let you know. Consent is important for dogs, too.

KENNEL CLUB GOOD CITIZEN GOLD AWARD
Poodle/terrier mix Pickle has come a long way in a lot of very small steps. A rescued dog, he initially got on very well at Dog School, gaining his Bronze and then Silver awards in rapid succession.
Unfortunately the family's other dog then passed away and this seemed to knock back Pickle's confidence completely.
He and his family have been bravely working on this, day by day, under the supervision of the veterinary behaviourists (and of course LVDTS) and today was the great day that Pickle became a Kennel Club Good Citizen Gold Award WINNER!
Well done Pickle, Iris and Katrina on a job well
done!

Getting ready for the kennel club Gold Award 👏🏽
The bed exercise is such a good exercise for a dog that follows you everywhere, has seperation anxiety etc.

A big congratulations to our devoted owners and their beautiful puppy Roxie.
Rottweilers make excellent family dogs. They are easy to maintain, and with loving owners, they become loyal, protective, and affectionate. However, it's essential to have the time and confidence to train and socialise them properly, which this family has done exceptionally well. 👏

Fantastic 121 with this fab family, discussing fulfilment. If we fulfil our dog's needs. We can create an off switch which gives the opportunity to teach calm behaviour,no matter what is going on
Loose lead walking can be challenging, really proud of Laura, she did her homework and the results speak for themselves.
In 6 months you can have 6 months of excuses or 6 months of progress. The choice is yours to make.
When introducing different species / pets, encouraging a calm mental state is key . A pet should be a pleasure to own, not a burden. We need to educate and teach how we want them to be ❤️
So happy for Trooper and his amazing owners, Trooper was reactive to other dogs. His owners whilst on holiday found two abandoned dogs in a really bad condition. They decided to go through the process to bring the dogs home, Claire contacted us to help Trooper, he has come on in leaps and bounds and now they are able to extend the family and provide a loving forever home 🏡 ❤️
Fantastic to see Bull Breeds shown in a positive light at the kennel Club. Muzzle training is so important, especially with the changes in law. Always aiming to improve, stay up to date on dog matters.
Did you know if your dog makes some one feel in fear, you could be reported as having a dangerous dog. Joggers run pass as we go on walks and some times the dogs prey drive kicks in and they feel the need the chase. Not every one loves dogs, in this day and age we have to do our best to protect them. Be pro active rather than reactive, they deserve it ❤️

it's sad when you have a big dog that gets over excited and causes harm when she just wants to play.
