I had a great solo walk with miss Willow this morning! She was such a good girly and we did some great training! She really is so much fun to work with... She's so clever but a little all over the place at times, so it's really fun to see her brain actually ticking when I ask her to figure something out! 😅🐾😁

The girls have had a great day today! We went out for a long walk around a local park, and then once we got home Willow went down for a nap, and then we had a play with this squeaky pig that kept her entertained for almost 20 mins before she got bored! 😅 It's been a good day overall though! ☺️🐾

We've been looking after this gorgeous girl since yesterday afternoon! She's with us until Tuesday evening, and Astrid is very happy about it! This is Astrid's best friend, and I was actually a huge part in the process of picking her out and collecting her with her mum! She is an assistance dog in training, and she is coming on so well! ☺️💕🐾

✨Pet Portrait commissions!✨

For those who don't know, I am also a digital artist! I don't open these very often anymore, because I don't often have the time to do them. But at the moment, I have some time to be able to work on some commissions, so I thought I'd open them up!

There will be 3 slots available for now, which will give me the time to actually work through them without overwhelming myself!

I am able to do most species, not just dogs and cats, although these are the most common so I do have more experience with them! I will not draw humans, so please don't ask! ☺️

Payment will need to be made upfront to claim your slot, and the turnaround time may vary as I am a disabled individual with a life outside of my work. Usually though, my turnaround times are pretty quick and I will always communicate if this is not the case. Refunds will not be available, but I am happy to make small changes to the piece if you feel that they are necessary!

These will be available for £15 a piece, and usually look best as a solo animal, although I am happy to add additional animals to the piece for +£10 per animal added!

These portraits will be emailed as high quality digital pieces, and commissioners are more than welcome to use the work for prints and other personal items, as long as those items are not sold for profit!

Below is an example of my work, which is a piece of my assistance dog Astrid. Please message if interested, the slots will be available on a first come first serve basis!

Hi all! ✨

I just wanted to come on here and let people know when I will be open to taking on new clients and bookings for next year!

I will be accepting bookings from new clients from the first week of January 2025! This is so that I have time to complete this year's bookings and enjoy Christmas and new year before looking at taking on new people!

Existing clients (people who I have worked for in the past) are welcome to contact me before that time if they have dates that they would like to book or pencil in for next year!

Everyone must have read my up to date Terms of Service before enquiring!

I will also be updating my available dates on my Trello, so that people are aware of when I will not be available.

I believe that is everything I wanted to cover in this post, so please do feel free to contact me with any questions you have, or for any existing clients who want to talk about next year's dates!

Thanks you! 💛

🐾 About Us 🐾

I feel like for clients to feel comfortable with people staying in their homes and looking after members of their own family, they ought to know their sitters on a bit more of a personal level!

So firstly, Hi! I'm Luci! I'm 20 years old, and I'm the person who decided to start up Heads and Tails Pet Services. I have loved animals since I was very little, and knew from that point that I always wanted to work with them. I was home educated from year 10 onwards, due to severe bullying and lack of support from the education system, but that hasn't stopped me! I went on to pass my maths and achieve a grade 7 in my English language exam, which I had learned the content for entirely on my own!

I then went on to study my Animal Care level 2 Diploma, which I passed with a Merit. I then continued on to study my Animal Management Level 3 Diploma (a two year course), and passed with Distinction! I put a lot into my education, despite my previous struggles, and I achieved great things because I refused to be defined by my past and the issues it had caused for me.

What a lot of people don't realise about me, is I'm actually also a disabled individual! I have suffered with chronic joint pain for the past 9 or so years, as well as POTS (a autonomic nervous system disorder that causes fainting when standing stationary, among other symptoms), a still-undiagnosed abdominal pain issue, and PTSD caused by the issues I went through in school. However, these conditions are all well-managed 90% of the time now with medication, mobility aids and my assistance dog Astrid (who I will be introducing next)! I couldn't find a job within the animal field that was able to fully accommodate my needs, so I decided to create my own! I am still very much able to work with animals like I have always wanted to, even though it doesn't look quite the same as how I had imagined it when I was younger!

Onto introducing Astrid! She is an almost 4 year old Golden Retriever, who I have had since she was 8 weeks old, and has been entirely owner trained as an assistance dog! I did receive online support with her training while she was younger, but everything she knows has been taught and shaped by me. She is trained in Medical Alert and Response tasks, as well as Psychiatric Alert and Response tasks. She supports me in a lot of ways, a few examples being: She can alert to on-coming fainting episodes so that I can get on the ground to avoid injury, she can also then raise my legs to help me recover more quickly from these episodes, she can alert and respond to panic/PTSD episodes, she provides deep pressure therapy to help with pain and panic episodes, and can even interrupt harmful behaviours such as skin picking!

She has genuinely changed my life for the better, and I owe the fact that I even attended college all to her! She has helped me pick myself up and get on with life, even when it hasn't gone quite the way I had planned, and is a big part of the reason I am who I am today. She is my lifeline. She comes everywhere with me (with a few exceptions that I have made based on my own judgements), so is naturally very well desensitised to practically everything. She is what most people would call a "bomb-proof dog". She doesn't bat an eyelid to fireworks, construction, other dogs barking and lunging at her, people trying to distract her when working, other animals bigger or smaller than herself (she especially adores cats), odd surfaces, and the list just goes on. There really isn't much that phases this dog at all, and even when things do catch her off guard, she recovers so quickly and gets right back to being her confident self!

She typically isn't very interested in other dogs unless she is off-duty, and sometimes it takes her a minute to let her hair down so to speak, but she is very good at getting along with virtually everyone once she's had a bit of time to get to know them! It may come off as her being shy, but she will actually just be observing your dog and learning their temperaments and play-styles! She's a calming presence for other dogs, especially anxious ones, and a good teacher for the more boisterous and unruly ones too! She's a very good communicator, so will always tell a dog when they have overstepped, but then show them how to handle the situation appropriately!

Finally, there is my partner, Adam! He is a very integral part of Heads and Tails Pet Services, and I definitely wouldn't have started the business if it wasn't for him! He helps me in so many ways, and sort of acts like my PA when it comes to the business. He keeps me organised and helps me out if I do end up having health flare ups by taking care of any house related work, so that I can focus my attention on providing the highest quality of animal care for the animals I am responsible for! He prefers to work behind the scenes, so it's unlikely you will ever see more than his legs in a picture or video!

He usually isn't massively hands-on with the animals' care, but does offer endless affection and playtime to any of the animals we look after. Any care he does provide is always under my instruction, as he is only qualified up to Animal Care level 2 (although living around me, he might as well be at the same level as me, with my tendency to ramble!).

He usually does his best to attend meets with me so that the client gets to meet him as well, but isn't always available as he does attend college on some weekdays and works another job part time over the weekends!

There you have it! An introduction to all two and half members of Heads and Tails Pet Services. If you ever have any further questions about any of us, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Please be aware that I am not currently taking on new clients! 🚫

I am awaiting messages from previous clients, as I wanted them to have the first pick of available dates, should they be interested in having me back! Once I have confirmed with these people, I will consider opening up to new clients! ☺️

I will update my bio with the current status of whether I am taking on new clients or not, so keep checking back! I will also make a post here to let everyone know when I am taking on new clients again! 👀

Terms of service - Pet Sitting:

Please ensure you have read the full terms of service before booking with us.

Acceptance of the services is deemed acceptance of the Terms and Conditions and an agreement to pay the fees on time.

Before confirming a booking with us, a non-refundable 15% deposit of the total price of the booking will be required upfront to secure the dates that you are wanting. This is to avoid the risk of people backing out at the last second, causing me to lose business for that allotted time. In very exceptional circumstances, dates may be able to be moved, depending on my other bookings.

Full payment (excluding the deposit) must be made within 3 days of the client returning home.

We reserve the right to deny or terminate the service because of safety or financial concerns.
We reserve the right to either impose additional charges and/or terminate this agreement if the assignment changes from the description given by the client and requires more time or responsibility, or if there is a change in the nature of the assignment which could not have been reasonably foreseen by either party.

I (Luci) require that my assistance dog stays with me for all in-house bookings. This is non negotiable unfortunately, as she is a necessity for me. She is a fully trained medical alert and response assistance dog. She is trained around others dogs, cats, small animals, reptiles and birds, as she attended my animal care diploma courses with me. She is very well mannered, and won't be an issue whatsoever, she is purely there for me. She loves other animals, and is a confident presence that has been known to help relax and distract dogs, especially if they are anxious when their owners are away.

We will need to have visited the house we will be staying at least once before the deposit is payed and booking is confirmed, to ensure we know where everything is and how to work everything that we will need. It is also important that resident dogs have met my assistance dog, so I will ask that we do a walk (no matter how short) so that the dogs can meet in neutral ground. This is to eliminate any risk of a bad introduction between them, for example if the resident dog becomes protective of their house. We want to ensure that the booking is right for everyone involved, as it is very important to us that the clients animals get along and feel comfortable with us and my assistance dog. We wouldn't want to stress them out in their own home, and their welfare is at the heart of our business.

The client consents to us taking any action we consider suitable in order to protect and keep their pet in good health. This includes but is not limited to: Grooming and veterinary care.
The client consents to their pet/s sharing food & water bowls and toys with other pets in the home.

If the client requires that their pet be medicated, they must leave a written note at every booking with clear instructions and signed permission for us to administer said medication/s.

The client gives permission to Heads and Tails Pet Services to act as guardian for their pet/s. If for any reason we need to take the client’s pet to a Vet at short notice, we will take them to the vet that is named by the client upon booking.
The client authorises the named Vets to treat their pet/s in case of any injury or illness.
The client gives us permission to transport their pet/s to the named Vet by whichever means necessary.

Heads and Tails Pet Services cannot be held liable for any loss of pets that have access to an unlocked “cat flap” or other form of exit/entry, such as unfenced/ungated garden. We will do our best to ensure this does not occur, however it is the owners responsibility to ensure that the property is secure for the animal/s.
In the event of a pet going missing, we will continue to visit the client’s home as normal to provide care for the pet/s and send daily feedback until the client returns.
If we have any cause for concern, we will always try to contact the client first, after which we will notify the listed emergency contact, Vet and any relevant authorities regarding a potentially missing pet.
We are not liable for anything that occurs to the animal should it go missing.

We will not be liable for any damage or injury caused by the client’s pet/s.
We will not be liable for any theft of the client’s pet/s.
We cannot be held liable for any injury/illness to the client’s pet/s unless we can be shown to be negligent.

08/07/2024

After taking a lot of time to work on my mental health after the incident with my last client (and still never receiving my owed money for that job either), and getting to a point where my physical health is managed to a point where I can leave the house and do things somewhat independently again, I have finally decided to do something with this business!

I will not yet be disclosing what I have in mind, but watch this space! 💛🐾

24/09/2023

⚠️ IMPORTANT⚠️

After an incident that occurred during my time pet sitting at a client's house yesterday evening, I regret to inform everyone that I will no longer be doing pet sitting.

This has been a tough decision to make, but the incident last night where a client's neighbour became verbally abusive and physically threatening, has left my mental health in a place that I don't think I will be able to recover from due to my already existing psychiatric disability. I don't feel safe leaving my house anymore, and especially to do jobs where my assistance dog cannot be present with me. This is going to take me a long time to recover from, if I ever fully do, and I feel like it has put me into a position where I do not feel like I am able to do day visits or stay-in pet sits due to my mental health and wellbeing.

I will be re-evaluating and trying to turn this business into something that works for me, if and when I am ready to start again. I will be contacting booked clients shortly to discuss moving forward, as I am unsure how I am going to proceed with this yet.

Thank you for being wonderful clients in the short time that this business has been running. I hope you will be willing to stick around and support me if I am ever able to return to this work that I love so much. I hope you can all understand how this situation has affected me, and that I need to put my health first.

Thank you,

Luci Groom

We had a really positive walk this evening! Lots of people stopped to talk to us and complimented both dogs behaviour, and were really understanding of Astrid wearing her muzzle at the moment! We didn't get as many dirty looks this evening, and both dogs made some friends and got some fusses! 🥰🐾

Back with this beautiful boy again for a few days! We had a lovely walk this evening around the park, and they both had a lovely time! 🥰🐾😁

For those who don't know, Astrid has split her dew claw and is in recovery at the moment until further notice (next appointment on Tuesday), so she's still okay to go out for on-lead exercise, but we use the muzzle to replace the cone while we're out because she tends to crash into things with the cone on, so the muzzle just means she's able to manoeuvre better and still can't lick the injury! She was a bit sad because of all the glares she was getting (she's very used to getting cooed at), but we prefer to be responsible here at Heads and Tails! I think a lot of people just assume muzzles mean the dog is reactive or aggressive, and aren't aware that they are a brilliant and versatile tool! ☺️

Well, I have just received my results for my Animal Management Level 3 course, and I have to say I am very proud of myself...

I have achieved triple distinctions! This is the highest grade that can be achieved! 😁

It was a bit unexpected, as I have struggled a fair bit this year with various issues with the college regarding accessibility. But I'm very very pleased with this result! I certainly wouldn't have been able to do it without Astrid! She's the whole reason I was able to go to college in the first place.

This means I will be able to start my Zoo and Wildlife degree as planned in September, so I am really looking forward to that now!

Just thought I'd share that with everyone, as it now means I have even more qualifications to back the quality of my care for your pets! 🥰🐾

I forgot to post these pictures of the pups playing yesterday evening! They honestly have so much fun together! We also went on a walk to the park yesterday evening, but it was too dark to get any decent pictures. They both slept like babies after that. I feel like even without the walk they'd have probably both been flat out! 😅🐾🤣

Astrid seems to be a good influence, as he was far more interested in her and what she was doing, than he was in other things going on around us and what other dogs were doing. If I asked her to sit, he would watch her and then sit himself too! I think she makes a pretty good training stooge/demo dog! 😁🐾😅

⚠️WORKING AREA UPDATE⚠️:

Hi everyone, I just wanted to make a post about this so that people are aware:

Due to personal reasons, I will not be able to take jobs in the Sandiacre/Stapleford area. It upsets me that I have to turn potential clients away, but this is non negotiable unfortunately.

My main working area is Long Eaton, and in some cases the surrounding areas such as Toton, Sawley and Chilwell.

Thank you for understanding! ☺️

A few pictures of the small zoo I'm sitting for at the moment! The baby bunnies and chicken cuddles make it all so worth it. 🥰 Remember, I don't just look after dogs and cats! I am open to looking after a range of small furries, birds, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates too! 😁

(This is also nowhere near all of the animals I am currently looking after on this job, there is a lot of bunnies, including the two beautiful 10 week old babies pictured, a chicken, four ducks, a parrot and a cat. 😅)
