🤎 These beauties came in yesterday after mum was sadly found dead in the garden the previous day 😢 Babes were hungry and one brave little one ventured out of the nest, thankfully found, followed by his siblings 🦔 Three boys and a girl, weighing between 58g - 74g. They’re doing well so far bless them 🥰 They are hand fed every three hours but are already lapping at their dishes and shouldn’t need help for much longer 🤎

These are fly eggs (sorry!) 🪰

Time to feed smaller portions and make sure leftovers are picked up promptly after your furry family have finished eating.

Fly eggs can be carriers of parasites or protozoa (such as giardia or cryptosporidium), which might infect your cat through ingestion.

Also keep an eye on your elderly, incontinent or less mobile pets as flies will try and lay eggs in their coats. Any cat with an open wound is at significant risk.

Look out for little white clumps, as shown in the photo.

Myiasis, known as flystrike, is when the eggs hatch into maggots which then burrow into the cat’s skin or feed on necrotic (dead) tissue. Flystrike can be fatal if not noticed in time.

I had to go shopping for the animals vegetables and fruit early this morning (another £85 gone) so thought I’d combine some bird releases to save on fuel. After buying live bugs for the ones still in our care, I opened the van door and found this little swallow trying to release himself, obviously he couldn’t wait 😊

Fairly quiet at the bootsale today but still managed to raise £60 for the hedgehogs 💰💰💰Had some lovely conversations with the public as we were selling bits and bobs and handing out leaflets. It’s reassuring to know that people are looking out for them 🤎🦔🤎

❤️🦔❤️SANDY❤️🦔❤️
Sandy came in on 22 May from Healing, and I started her straight away on treatment for internal parasites. She's responded really well and was due her last treatment at the end of this week. Yesterday morning, she gave birth to two hoglets and sadly rejected both of them. They were both cold and lifeless, but still alive, so I picked them both up and warmed them in my hands, whilst waiting for the heat pad to heat up, then placed them in a fleece pocket and gently warmed them through. Once warmed, I made up some formula to hand fed them both. The little boy took the formula straight away, but the little girl really wasn't too well and had sadly passed away.
Sandy just wasn't interested in her hoglets at all, I'm sure she was a first time mum, and not wanting to cause her more stress, I moved her from our hedgehog hospital to our back enclosure where she could rest in the calm and quiet.
I've been hand feeding the little boy hoglet, who weighed just 13.5gms, every hour and in-between feeds at 9.30pm last night, I decided to check on Sandy. I was totally surprised to find that she had given birth to two more hoglets and they were suckling on her, so I decided to reunite the little boy in the house with her and her siblings and hope that she would accept him back. I placed him between the two hoglets, covered them all up and walked away, praying he would make it. He's a much better chance of survival with them than me, especially as newborns have such a very low chance of survival when being hand reared. I will now leave Sandy and her hoglets, changing her food and water daily and check her in a weeks time. Here's hoping she's a good mummy and they all make it 🦔🙏🦔

When you poison animals deemed 'pests', you also poison the wildlife people love most.

This poor barn owl was found flat and unresponsive in a field in Suffolk back in January. Vets believe it was due to secondary poisoning, after eating a rodent that had consumed poison.

Rodenticide causes serious suffering and puts other animals at risk too. Latest figures from Barn Owl Trust show that around 80% of barn owls are contaminated with highly toxic SGARs (Second Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticides) 💔

Rodenticide poison is often seen as a quick fix, but it can have serious welfare implications. Find out how you can deter rodents humanely: https://bit.ly/3SOKcB4

While the go fund me money is in the process of transferring 💰💰💰here are some of our little ones that we’ve had over the years 🦔🦔🦔 We have only seen a a few so far this month, orphans which have thankfully been adopted by other nursing mums. The numbers are very worrying, not just for hoglets but for adult hogs too 😔😔😔 It is the same story up and down the country. Please continue to feed kitten biscuit 🐈🐈🐈 and water as normal, even if they’ve stopped coming 💧💧💧You never know what life you might save.
