We have brought up many hoglets over the years that were either found in early or mid Winter. They were very drastically underweight. With the help and guidance of a professional animal rehab centre nearby/on speed dial we do our little bit by helping these endangered animals. All have now been released (where they were found) and have access to our large garden with feeding stations and two hedgehog homes with the hope that the hedgehog community will spread. If you find a hedgehog and are concerned with how it looks please do look up your local hedgehog/animal rescue center to seek advice.
Please also look before you use a strimmer/lawnmower as they can be injured or killed by such machinery.

Tonight, after many months living in our back room a very looked after ‘Rocket’ has left home. He was around 900g in weight and was released into the garden feeder after acclimatisation training to return to the wild. Good luck Rocket. Godspeed

Facebook says that five years ago this week our first hedgehog sat outside our back door shivering (weighing in at 155g). Harvey stayed with us all winter. Then Avi arrived and so we have at least one male and female in our street. Now, is it possible that the newbie Rocket is related? Unless we get dna testing it’s impossible to know. However, I do like to think though that the community of Hogs is definitely growing and it’s great for the environment 🥰

Found this wee baby (temporarily dubbed Rocket) as he (100% a male 😊) ran across the road very quickly in Lossiemouth. He is weighing in at 443g. He’s most likely part of a late autumn brood, due to warm weather. They need 550-600g of fat reserves to survive Winter, so we’ll give him food for a week or two then release him into a single bedroom hog bungalow +piles of straw in the garden along with a plentiful supply of hog food in case he wakes up.
