Mousehole Wild Bird Hospital and Born to be Wild (Bude) offer fantastic advice and rehabilitation
These three amigos were bought over by a lovely family in Falmouth, they even had snacks in the box for the journey! πͺ
This brings our current total up to 23!
We are open from 9.30am-4.30pm 7 days a week. If you find a young gull chick that cannot be placed back in its nest or in a safe area nearby, please take it to your nearest wildlife centre.
If it shows signs of illness or injury, please take it to the vet first. Vets are obliged to offer first aid to wildlife free of charge. Do note that they do not have facilities to keep wildlife long-term so if they feel that your little one is suitable for rehabilitation they may ask you to transport them to the relevant place.
πΎπ Meet Oreo ππΎ
Warning - photo containing blood bag β οΈ
Another absolute star patientβ¦
Oreo is a 1 year old cat who came in to see us due to being under the weather for a few days. When he had his appointment with the vet, it became apparent that he was a lot more poorly than he was letting on.
Concerned about how poorly he was, blood tests quickly identified he was life threateningly anaemic with a circulating blood level of just 7%!! Oreo was in need of a blood transfusion to save his life - whilst the team tried to identify the cause of the anaemia. As there is no blood bank for cats, Oreo underwent a procedure called Xenotransfusion where he received a blood transfusion from a different species! The ever so patient Labrador Skye (belonging to Vet Jennifer) donated her blood whilst Vet Olivia and the nursing team carefully monitored Oreo for any signs of transfusion reaction.
Luckily, Oreo took the transfusion perfectly and we are all so happy to report that over the past few weeks, his blood levels have been rising back up to normal!
He is a very sweet boy and the whole team are so happy to see him on the mend.
Well done Oreo!!! π€©π€©
