Just because a dog is muzzled, does not mean it's a "bad" dog. Muzzle training your dog is never a bad thing to do and genuinely it could be the best thing for your dog to feel safe and secure. Do it well and your dog will love their muzzle!

Today I met this little guy! Handsome little Billy, a proper little firecracker of a chap, he does not have an off switch bless him.

So we need to encourage sleep, we need to look at his diet and increase his focus on his owners, there is a lot going on with this lad but he is also a total sweetheart 💕

Now you may have heard that you cannot feed your dogs something that is frozen, I can tell you that is not true! My dogs love to have ice cubes in their water, frozen veggie treats, I even freeze their filled kongs in order to make it more interesting and longer lasting for them! 🐕

Did you know reward based training doesn't have to be about food?

You can use anything your dog loves to do as a reward for doing something you have asked of them.

This is my youngest girl, working on her recall and being rewarded by being allowed to go in the water, she loves it! 🐕 💧

Management is key!

This is why we go to management before we try to train. Training itself takes time and patience and often comes with set backs so we must make sure that our dogs are always managed correctly, it keeps them safe, it keeps us safe and it keeps others safe as well.

For example my youngest dog is incredibly scent driven, she always has her nose to the ground following a variety of scents and anyone who's had a spaniel will tell you, when their nose is engaged, their ears are turned off! 😂

This means that her recall is still a work in progress (basically she's "deaf" when we're out!) So I keep her on a long line or, as in this picture ⬆️ I join my leads together so she can go out a little further but we're still able to keep her in hand.

Today I have been working on some door protocols with these little monkeys! As you can imagine, it can get rather chaotic with 3 dogs around so we are looking to calm things down a bit when it comes to the front door.

This is jot a quick solve but my babies are eager to learn so hopefully it won't be too long before they get the hang of it!

I hope you've all had a lovely Easter and that you've been able to take some time to rest. Even our dogs need to take time out now and then to just chill and one of the best ways to let them do that is to give them something tasty and long lasting to chew on.

This is my Pippa working on a turkey wing, they've had these now for a good 20 minutes and they are loving them! What a great way to get some rest after playtime ☺️

Did you know an adult dog needs to sleep for 12-14 hours a day?! It sounds like a lot, doesn't it?

But did you know sleep deprivation can have a massive effect on your dog? Just like you and me, if your dog doesn't get enough sleep they can get very cranky. They will struggle to focus on you and it can lead to all sorts of behavioural issues as well.

Have you ever said thank you to your dog? I do!

In fact I use those words "thank you" in their training to encourage them to disengage from the front door, or the cat, or the kid next door that's making a lot of noise as he plays outside!

It's still a work in progress but with my thank you (and my rewards) we are slowly making progress!
Growing focus and reducing the cacophony at the same time, win win! 😁

My name is Sharon and I have lived with dogs my whole life. I think they are amazing animals, so intelligent (yet stoopid 😂), so loving and loyal to a fault. ❤️ I have always wanted to work with dogs but had no idea what career path to go down. I have often watched TV shows where people go and help train owners and their dogs and I thought it looked like a brilliant job!
Eventually I found the Dog Training College and their online course to become a dog trainer! 😁 So now, here I am, a fully fledged dog trainer in my own right, hoping that I can help people who really want to improve the lives of their dogs and their own relationships with those dogs 🐕
