A bit of a different post this evening...

Some of you may know Jen, she was the face of Wagdale, a reputable dog breeder and my beloved sister. As you can see she had a cheeky, infectious smile and you could always rely on her to brighten the darkest of days. No matter what time of day you knocked on her door, she would drop whatever she was doing, pour you a drink and before you knew it you'd be in belly aching fits of laughter, she was the best sister, mum, daughter and best friend anyone could wish for 🩷

We sadly lost Jennifer to cancer last year, this was and still is devastatingly painful for all of us.

Cancer doesn't discriminate and many of us will have been affected by this cruel disease in some way.

I, along with my work colleagues at Chine House Veterinary practice will be running the Race for Life. I will be running in memory of Jennifer and my dear dad who we also lost to cancer in 2020 💙

14 weeks old BEAU looking as cute as a button 🩷

There is some controversy as to whether you can clip a pups coat under 6 months of age. I'd like to take this opportunity to clarify some points for anyone wondering about clipping continuously growing coats like Beau's. Coats that grow continuously - such as Poodles, Shih Tzus, and similar types - do not have the same structure as double coated-breeds. Their coats grow much like human hair, and trimming or shaving them is entirely safe and appropriate when done correctly.

Unlike double-coated dogs (Husky, Akita, Pomeranians) which rely on their undercoat and guard hairs for thermoregulation, continuously growing coats don’t shed seasonally or depend on a set length for protection. Regular grooming, including trimming, is actually essential for their health and comfort to prevent matting, tangles, and skin issues.

It’s important to tailor grooming practices to the specific coat type of each dog, and I take pride in offering educated, breed-appropriate care to my clients. If anyone has questions about coat types or grooming, I’m always happy to provide more information! ❤️🐾

🪮 Let’s talk about COMBING 🪮 The videos below highlight the importance of regularly combing your pooch 🐶 🐾 Reduces matting! Matting can become tight and pull painfully whenever your four-legged friend moves as well as leading to possible skin conditions. If your dog is matted then sadly he will most likely need to be shaved. Working through matts with a brush or a comb isn’t fair on the dog and can lead to a negative groom experience. As you can see from my second video, a comb attachment just will not go through a matted coat so a shave and start over is sometimes the only option. 🪒 🐾 Helps you to identify lumps, sore spots or injuries that may be otherwise hidden from view 🤕 🐾 Helps expose fleas and ticks! 🪳 🐾 Helps dog regulate his or her body temperature 🌡️ 🐾 Promotes blood circulation allowing their skin to breath and stimulate the natural oils in your dogs coat, giving your dog a beautifully shiny coat ✨ 🐾 Reduces grease and dandruff! Grease and dry skin can build-up in their fur which in turn can block their pores and cause painful health conditions like sebaceous cysts. 🏥 🐾 Creates a positive experience ahead of visiting the groomer! 😁✂️ 🐾 BONDING TIME! Combing your pooch is a great way to spend time with your dog and create a stronger bond 🩷
