We've been testing dog toys; Magick our office pup, a 10-month-old LUA Dalmatian and Cercei a 2-year-old Irish Setter have been playing with dog toys to see which ones last the longest. Take a look at the results and see video clips of both dogs in action. They had so much fun!

It's with a heavy heart that today we had to say goodbye to Arapahoe, she was 16 and not enjoying life and she was ready to join Mischief across the Rainbow Bridge. She was the most amazing teacher, and friend and I know everyone who met her loved her. She leaves a big hole in my heart but there is a time when I know we have to say goodbye to our beloved 4-legged friend. Run free Arapahoe xx

We may not get a perfect result but I'm at least going to show you how we use the Tellington T-Touch leading exercises to help bingo to learn to walk on the lead and to hopefully walk in his own balance.
What do I mean by in his own balance? Well the short answer is posture influences behaviour.
If we can change the posture of the dog we'll change the behaviour of the dog. Remember physical balance influences mental and emotional balance.
So, within TTouch we're always very conscious of the animal being in as perfect balance as possible.

Easter Magick Update
It's been nearly 16 years since owning a puppy.
It's no secret that Magick came into our lives in December when we were invited by Lua Dalmatians Anne Benson to meet her exciting litter of spotty puppies and to cut a long story short in January Magick came to live here.
Although I am a Tellington TTouch practitioner and a dog training instructor it's been a number of years since I worked with Marie Miller at Paws n Learn training and I have to say working with your own pup is harder than advising a client. The last few weeks have, however, been filled with joy and new learning working with Magick. She is an amazing teacher and each day I learn so much from her.
When she came home she had not done any lead work so we wanted to introduce her straight away to a Tellington TTouch harness and because she had not learned any bad habits loose lead walking was not a challenge for her. She also did freework on a regular basis as part of our ditching the bowl feeding. Food is given to her on LickiMat mats as part of her training but right from the get-go we don't have regular meal times and Magick does now have a food bowl. It works really well as food is of great value and can be used as part of her daily training activities.
Magick is a very confident dog in the house but the outside world is a bit more challenging for her so we have started taking her to different places so that she can gain some different experiences. Yesterday we did what I can only call a novelty walk . We took her to Leicester where there is a disused railway line that is a walking/cycling trail. Here she experienced many different sounds, sights and smells. She met runners, cyclists, people on motor scooters, dog walkers with different-sized dogs, horse poo, people taking photos, so many different experiences. It was a great experience for her and every time something or someone new approached we just stopped and had some food so that the focus was on me rather than the novel experience. We also practised our recall starting on the long line when the trail was busy and off-lead where it was quieter. Magick is doing really well on the whistle. On Friday we took her to a park with a totally different terrain and a totally different experience, sights sounds and smells. We saw cows and sheep on this walk and an alpaca in the distance.
Even as a dog professional I have been reaching out to other trainer friends to check in and make sure that we are doing things right and I am so grateful to Nicky Lucka for doing a zoom one to one the first week Magick arrived and getting me started on the right track, Gail Skinner for all her great advice and Laura Bradshaw for painstakingly answering all my questions especially to do with Magick's diet. Also to Willow Walks for their wonderful puppy class, we are attending. As a professional, you never stop learning, from the dogs and other professionals.
Bringing up a puppy is a wonderful experience and full of so many challenges but for anyone else with a new pup, enjoy these times as they are magical and I am so grateful to have Magick in my life and to Lua Dalmatians Anne Benson for breeding her.
