Buying ewe lambs, shearlings or tups this autumn? - Don’t bring in problems!

Ask about history in the parent flock. Ask about vaccinations, treatments & specific diseases - high health means nothing on its own - it relates to particular diseases ie accredited or monitored for MV or EAE etc.

Do your homework to make you less work & more profit in the long run.

It’s not rude to ask! Ask the seller & discuss with the vets.

Sydney the Sunflower 🌻 Bear - was planning on joining me in Italy for a few days - I think she thought it was all going to be vino & pasta!

When she heard we would be climbing above the clouds to 2900m to the top of Mount C***o - scrambling our way to the top & the descending to see wolves in their natural habitat & evidence of slightly larger bears than herself she became a little scared so decide Saltfleet would be a little safer - so she was with me in spirit as the t-shirt shows.

Please if you can put you hand in your pocket to support Sydney raise money for the kids that need a good day out. It’s not as scary as climbing.

As hopefully you will all know we at Farm Vets - Norfolk Farm Ltd are huge believers in the next generation in farming & empowering them for the future so on that theme we have a series of announcements over the next few days…

Now it’s our turn for some exciting news!

Many of you know that I started this practice for the farming community and have always wanted it to remain in the farming community and for the farming community in the long run - providing a consistent and high level of service to the next generation.

So I am super excited to announce that on 1st August 2026 the ownership of Farm Vets- Norfolk Farm Ltd will pass to Zoe Snowden (nee Smith) and Harriet Thomas - Mee.

Zoe Snowden is the longest serving member of the practice & Harriet Thomas-Mee joined us last year & as a double act they will be fantastic.

Over the next 2 years I will guide them through how to run a vet practice and then I will continue to work for them until they think I’m too old & crotchety and kick me out!

So going into this winter we will be 4 vets, 2 technicians, 2 in admin and an apprentice & I couldn’t be happier that the future is secure!

None of this would have been possible without the support of all the wonderful staff that have worked with us over the past 5 years and continue to work with us especially Emma Billings and Hollie Harris and Beth Foster and Naomi Church

Home Farm Dairy with a little encouragement & support from ourselves will be supporting their second employee to follow their dreams this autumn!

It seems just like yesterday that Eleanor Hallam whilst chatting on a routine vet visit said that she had always wanted to be a vet but didn’t have the correct grades at GCSE or A levels. However over the next 2 years with hard work, dedication, night school, and a whole bucket full of support especially from Home Farm Dairy, allowing her to study alongside her job as a calf rearer, she made it into Bristol Vet School and she has now finished her first year!

This year it is a collaboration between Home Farm Dairy and ourselves that is allowing Laura Carter to train as Veterinary Technician at Harper Adams University. The farm are investing in Laura as a long term member of the team empowering her with skills beyond those of most calf rearers that they believe will be valuable to them for the future and secure Laura’s future with them. We will assist with the teaching she needs that is beyond the scope of the farm in an agreement with Harper Adams.

If you have a dream whatever it may be don’t put it on the back burner or if you are a farmer that wants to secure excellent staff for the future empower them.

We work with The Serendipity Foundation to help people get into work so if you are keen to work in a role but feel hampered to achieve by lack of transport, lack of training, occupational health requirements, neurodivergence or anxiety issues please get in touch and we can put you in touch with them.

If you are a farmer or rural employer who feels they want to encourage someone into work The Serendipity Foundation will support you with picking up additional costs in training, occupational health, transport and other expenses over initially a 12 week period and then, if needed, into the future whilst you support someone in a new role.

Contact us for more information.
