It’s very hard but truly important …

Farming is more than a job – it’s a way of life and one that often means long hours, endless responsibilities, and very little time for a break. But taking a moment to step away, connect with others, and recharge can make all the difference for mental wellbeing.

Kate Jones, RABI’s Regional Volunteering Manager for the West Midlands, understands this deeply, as her husband is a farmer, and she is closely connected to farming life.

"My husband works long hours, 7 days a week and he’s not alone. I realised many farmers are just like him, so with the help of a dairy farmer, Hannah Edwards, we got a hundred hard-working farmers and rural people into a barn for banter and boogie. Farmers don’t often get off the farm and this got everyone talking while giving them the boost they needed."

Taking time to step off the farm can make all the difference. Remember, your wellbeing is just as important as the work you do.

Feeling like a night out? Come and join in with our annual stockmans quiz on 22 November in Louth. Food is provided and there is a bar available.

Prizes to be won. You do not need to be a member of the Society, own Lincoln Reds or even be a stockman (stockperson?) to join in on this fun evening.

Message Edward Middleton if you are attending so we have an idea of numbers for catering.

All with the goal to improve the productivity, health & welfare of their stock.

Busy week testing rams 🐏 to check they are fit for work - if they are only working for a few weeks a year you want to be sure they are on top form!

It is also an excellent time to talk about other flock issues while we are on site.
