A new report commissioned by FCN follows a survey of over 450 UK farmers and highlights the impacts bovine tuberculosis (bTB) has on their health and wellbeing.

The health symptoms reported by farmers range from fear, sleepless nights and persistent anger, to a deep sense of loss of control over their personal lives and their farm business.

Dr Jude McCann, FCN's Chief Executive Officer, said: "We hope the findings and recommendations of this report will help to raise awareness of the human impacts of bTB and ensure that farmers’ health and wellbeing remains at the heart of decision-making.
"We also hope to see greater UK-wide collaboration across agencies, organisations and farm businesses, working together to eradicate bTB.”

Latest update ..

Bluetongue update: Due to lower temperatures and reduced midge activity the risk of new infection and onward transmission due to vector activity is now very low.

As a result of the reduction in risk, certain restrictions are being eased from today (Tuesday 21 January) including removing the following:
• The requirement for post-movement testing of animals
• The use of insecticide on vehicles
• The requirement to send animals from the Restricted Zone to designated abattoirs.

Restrictions will be revised when vector activity increases again with warmer temperatures, which tends to be in March/April.

Please check the collection page on GOV.UK: https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/bluetongue-information-and-guidance-for-livestock-keepers and the press release: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/seasonally-vector-low-period-for-bluetongue-begins for more info.

2024 has been a difficult year for many in the farming community, locally & nationally with family loss, su***de, health issues, financial issues, weather & changes in legislation to deal with.

Lets hope 2025 is a better year for many however whatever gets thrown at us as a community we are stronger together - the farming community is an amazing place - remember help is always there & asking for it is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Now all eat, drink 🍷 & be merry & pick up the phone if you need us or just need to chat.

So more about the Christmas 🎄 Quiz & the amazing it evening it was …

Farmer of the Year, the shield, bottle of bubbly & £50 voucher for the veterinary pharmacy Invetstore went to John Farrow.

John in so many ways epitomises everything I value in farming - he never utters the words - “if there is livestock there is dead stock” - these words are replaced with why? He’ll investigate, read, challenge, ask until he’s sure he’s done all he can to remove the problem repeating itself.

Despite being stuck in the TB regime of the TB hotspot meaning repeated testing Johns pregnancy results had almost 96% of his cows in calf - and for those not in calf we are investigating why. It’s a pleasure to work alongside John, Tom & all the team.

We are lucky that he is one of many excellent farmers we work with.

Tom collected the prize 🏆 on Johns behalf.

Young Farmer 🧑‍🌾 of the Year - Takara Comrie

Her boss and mentor Andrew was taken seriously ill earlier this year leaving Takara to manage Limestone Farming’s more than 400 calving Stabiliser Cows 🐄- and she was truly amazing 🤩
Her dedication, enthusiasm & work ethic are exemplary.

Well Done Takara from all of us! Onwards & upwards.

More instalments to follow - Farmer 🧑‍🌾 of the Year, How much we raised for The Serendipity Foundation Lincs and Lincolnshire Rural Support Network and the Quiz 🏆 winners!
