OMG!!

Please Please check your gardens...
I have just gone out to poo pick. Interestingly my girls have been avoiding the grass for a few days and I was wondering why? Maybe it's because it's damp? Longer than normal ? Now I find out why!!
I found these and identified them. Theses are DEATH CAPS. The most positions mushrooms in the British Isles!!
They have a sickly honey smell and I am grateful that my dogs did not eat any.
Please please check your gardens for mushrooms and fungi this time of the year

Wow 1 year ago!!
For those of you who haven't known me long...in June of last year I had a perforated bowel.
I talk a lot about S**t both dog and human without reservation. Why? Because its one of the most important health indicators and its absolutely nothing to be ashamed about.
Please share your 💩stories😁

Clearing the air...
Today I had another glorious procedure. This was called a Virtual colonoscopy. It was virtually pain free and I don't get a virtual elephants trunk up my a**s.
No my friends, today, I was promised a small pipe. The size of a pen.
Now with all colonoscopys I have to take a preparation the day before ; yesterday I had to follow a strict diet that consisted of 1 boiled egg,a slice of white toast, 200g of fish and 2 tiny potatoes, lots of water and sugary drinks so I didn't fall on said a**s due to a lack of glucose.
I also had a wonderful medication that "tastes like liquorice "..mmmmm not quite the sambuca I was hoping for. This medication contains Iodine so that they can see your insides better, it also works as a laxative so ones bowels are clear.
After spending a few visits to the toilet I wasn't sure it was working, until this morning when it was like an early run of the London marathon to get to percy porcelain.
Driving to the hospital I was slightly nervous of my now grumbling bowel, I made it though, just in time.
It was very quiet in the hospital and I was first to be seen. The lovely nurse gave me a stunning gown ( pic below) and showed me to my dressing room ( a bit like Next but without the fat mirrors they put in there). After visiting the toilet, again, I was shown to the procedure lounge . The radiologist asked me to lay down on my left side whilst she popped a little pipe up there. We'll to be honest I think whoever manufacturers them needs to file the end better! It felt like I had sat on a big splinter and I think due to cut backs, I was on limited l**e, eventually it goes in and she turns on the machine. The machine blows air into the bowel not dissimilar to when you fill your car tyres up at the garage. She went a bit slower than that though so she didn't rupture anything ( we don't want that, that's where all this started!).
I had another dye pumped around my bloodstream via a canula , if you have never had one, it makes you feel like you need a wee.
All the time the nurse was chatting like I was at the hairdresser " ooo what's weather like outside" well I guess the same as it was when you turned up for your shift half an hour ago? Then she asked what I do and of course everyone has a dog so I then spend a long time explaining to her why her adolescent pooch can't function right now due to the brain undergoing reconstruction and the body being flooded with hormones.
Off and ready, I went through the machine. The guys voice gently guiding when to breath in and out and when to hold my breath. The only time it was uncomfortable was when I lay on my left side.
I think they could do with some nice beach scenery on the walls rather than the signs for 'cardiac' 'airways ' resuscitation', I think that would be more relaxing.
All done in 20 minutes.
Radiologist comes to remove said pipe ,and the sticky tape that she used to "not allow any air out" and said I will now release the air. I was hoping for a really good expulsion of CO2 but nothing! She said could I go and get dressed now. I feel like a balloon, wobbling my way to the bathroom, again I was hoping for a nice combustion but still nothing. I got my clothes back on and sat in the very cute waiting lounge. They like you to have something to drink and eat before you go so I had one of those vile coffees and a packet of biscuits again they STILL haven't read the memo about healthy eating and cholerectal healing!
Anyway cheap biscuits and coffee down my neck and I was sweet to go. I travelled home with my jeans button open because I was still full of air.
Home, I had a lovely lunch and hoped again to see some movement. Eventually ,after about an hour I was glad I was home, some of that air started to leave the way it came in!
I walked the dogs and my main concern was walking where it would be quiet, just in case the wind blew in a southerly direction and the laxative was still working.
I made it. No accidents and dogs are happy.
I still have a grumbling bowel but I'm sure it will work its way out . I'm off to the vet this afternoon ( for the dog not me) and I'm hoping it's not quiet in the waiting room ...echo echo echo..!
It may be a noisy evening in casa Moore tonight👍

🐕Tremendous Tuesdays🐕

What tremendous things have happened this week?

Who or what has been a complete Tw*t in your life this week?

Yesterday, I took the girls for a walk and I am of that age now where ,if I'm not careful, I can get caught out.🚻 Due to my inflexible knees I find it harder to squat nowadays and although I have invested in one of those 'she wee' things it seems to travel backwards down my leg🙃. I soldiered on, squeezing and wishing I had done just a few more of those pelvic floor exercises the midwife gave me 30 years ago. There is a distinct difference in the way one walks when one is in need. Praying and hoping I didn't meet anyone on the way back to the car, I walked swiftly, completely aware now of my receding thigh gap (where and when did that go?). My legs seem to cross at every stride, careful not to trip myself up due to the 'looby loo' effect,I picked my way through the overgrown path and tried to slalom through the dog s**t that someone else had left.
I heard voices, I looked to my right to see not one,but two people with dogs...oh no!! I can't,I just can't, I cant give eye contact, if I do they will want to chat and I'm not sure if my bladder will last so I picked up my already quick pace ,thighs rubbing way faster now and my hips swinging like they should have really been on strictly, I finally made it to the car. Dogs in securely I sat in the drivers seat and tried not to think about the porcelain at home.
10 minutes later, I was home, finally, but now is NOT the time to relax! Because all that time ones brain has been working to keep one's legs from getting wet could now pale into insignificance once ones eyes see that beautiful toilet bowl , DO NOT RELAX NOW!

I took Sky & Rhona from the car towards the house; now for some reason, today, when we got inside ,they decided to circle me so now my leads were wrapped around my ankles and I was trussed up like a christmas turkey ! Ffs of all days!...not wanting to make sudden movements which may worry the dogs and make the lead experience negative for them,I slowly took off their collars ,gave them a treat like I always do and opened the door to the most beautiful place in the world..."My loo"..

Arghhhhh bliss. I made it.
👍💪😁

The act of neutering your dog can be sometimes confusing and complex.
In the 80s there was a push to neuter dogs to prevent unwanted pets. Can you remember the campaigns?
Certainly in different countries including the USA, the push to neuter dogs early is still actively promoted ,but does that mean its a good thing for your dogs?

Well actually, there is research to show that neutering early can actually cause significant disadvantages to your dog's overall health including bone growth and maturation in the brain.

You see your dog needs those hormones to fully grow both physically and mentally.

So why should you get your dog neutered?
Well obviously you won't be adding to the already swamped dog population of the world and additional there are health benefits of neutering your dog when done AT THE RIGHT TIME
The risk of pyometra in your bitch will be removed ,testicular cancer risk in your dog will be removed for example, male.marking in the house can be eliminated.

Does neutering combat behaviour problems though.?
Well actually no. There may be odd cases whereby removing your dogs go**ds may reduce aggression but overall it makes diddly squat difference. A lot of aggression cases are fear related. Testosterone increases confidence. If you remove the confidence giving hormone then your dog is left with little to help it's fear based reactivity from endocrinological point of view.

Here is some research for you to have a look at

https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0223709&fbclid=IwAR3G2Pof-ISdi4xd7VBcfUlGEpcCquuGvsqulyPxc2EdW88WjylP3EO57Ys

Bi***es
Yes the risk of pyometra is removed as the womb will no longer be there, but please ensure you are spaying at the right time.
All bi***es have the same hormonal changes following the visual season.
So...First 2 weeks you will see a bleed, next 2 weeks are the most receptive weeks but bleeding will have slowed dwn and stopped to give way to a watery discharge.

Even if your bitch did not have a session with an entire dog they all go though the same hormonal changes. These changes are known as a phantom pregnancy. Sometimes you may see the changes for eg swollen nipples, lactation etc but other bi***es don't show any outwardly signs. If you get your bitch spayed whilst they are in this stage then something happens called a PPP (permanent phantom pregnancy ). If your bitch is in PPP then they often display unwanted behaviours including reactivity.
The average gestation period is 63 days,so if you take the last day of your bi***es last season ,add 63 days on then you should be about right for spay date. If your bitch I sa twice yearly girl then it is important to not wait too long as the new hormones for the next season will start to kick in
It is important that your vet advises you of the right time when to neuter. Please please question your vet when it comes to the time .

18/09/2023

Unless you have been living under a bush, you will know that the government are proposing to ban the XLBully by the end of the year.

I have found that this debate is somewhat dividing family and friends not unlike the miners strike or brexit for example.
The problem we have is that it is a complicated and a highly emotive subject.
There is no denying that the XL Bully has been responsible for deaths and as a new breed it cannot go unnoticed nor unchallenged.
The breed specific legislation is ,as I have said previously, not fit for purpose. Adding an extra egg to an already fecked up recipe doesn't make a better cake,it usually screws it up a bit more.
The Answer isn't as simple as ban the breed, if it was, there would be far less debate.

There has already been a number of XL bully dogs and pups being surrendered to rescue shelters

I hope and pray that this week can go without another dog attack.

I hope that this week families and friends can debate calmly.

I hope this week that the government actually seek and implement advice from dog experts and not just bulldoze the legislation through.

I hope this week that we don't see any more abandoned XLbullys

IN OTHER NEWS..

I had a fab few days away enjoying the late September sunshine. We started in Suffolk and stretched up the coast to Norfolk.
Some great beaches that are dog friendly with lovely facilities for humans too.

We found some nice free camping spots which is easier when you have a self contained motorhome, in a tent I find it a bit uncomfortable laying on a roadside🤣

They say just leave your footprints and only take your memories..this time though I have taken something a little extra... . a cold🙃 I am feeling pretty rough so bear with me over this week.

Have a good one everyone and let me know what news you have ....
