Pregnancy scanning in alpacas
Today Yasmine was scanning alpacas for pregnancy diagnosis with one of our alpaca breeders. We scan to check for pregnancy as for sheep by ultrasound scanning on the side of the abdomen, and we can see crias (baby alpacas) in the womb from 50 days - the cria you can see on the scan below is about 2 months into pregnancy! Alpaca's gestation length tends to be 11 - 12 months long. Can you spot the ribcage and a head??
To discuss any of your alpaca or llama needs, chat to Yasmine at Holly Tree via 01477 571000 🦙
Many thanks to Capital Alpaca for sharing their video.

How does Sheep Scab spread?
How does sheep scab spread? Sheep scab is mainly spread through direct contact between sheep but, can also be picked up from fences, posts and trees that infected sheep have rubbed against, as well as the clothing and equipment of sheep handlers. The mites can survive off the sheep for 16 days. If you think your sheep may have sheep scab, give us a call.
Are you celebrating this bonfire night? Is anyone close to your farm likely to be letting off fireworks? Farm animals are easily frightened by loud noises and sudden flashes of bright light, which can startle and cause them to injure themselves on fencing and farm equipment. We can help make sure you've done everything you can to keep your animals safe. Give us a call.
